MTGA Dominaria – Standard Shakeup Mono-Red

In the next installment of the MTGA Plane-cation we find ourselves back in the land of Dominaria. Here the format is a standard shakeup. A twist on current standard meta by banning 19 cards that heavily influence the current standard landscape. You can see the entire list at the end of the article or by logging in to MTGA and going to the Dominaria – Standard Shakeup event.

The Dominaria – Standard Shakeup event is only happening through Tuesday this week (Aug 20th) so you better act fast to collect the sweet Mirage lands! If you happen to make six wins you will find yourself the proud owner of an Unhinged Island.

Mono-Red Deck Tech

Today, I quickly wanted to cover off on a Mono-Red deck that allowed me to collect my six wins in no time. Pretty sure I was able to do this in less than an hour, and I want to help you get your wins in before this event is over! With that said you can find the MTGA Dominaria – Standard

Personal Point of View

The main part to this Mono-Red deck for the event is the core standard deck I play needs to fill in for Light Up the Stage & Runaway Steam-Kin. With the banning of these two for the standard shakeup we lose casting, creature power, and draw with eight cards. My thought process was to get some of that back with adding in two experimental frenzy cards for potential draw. Then I wanted to pivot slightly and figured if a game happens to go longer than anticipated I wanted to go over the top, and straight to face. Two ways I felt I could accomplish this were with Banefire, and the ability of it not being countered, and with Ghitu Chronicler for a kicker. Ghitu Chronicler gave me another body, and the ability for some additional damage reach if the game went long enough. Overall, these adaptation for the event paid off.

I played eight games, losing two early on to a black white life gain deck both times. One I was at one health and got my opponent to the same spot. In the video you will see the last three matches I played took only about 15 minutes, and I won out.

I hope you enjoy this standard shakeup of everyone’s favorite Mono-Red deck, and earn those six wins! Post below in comments your thoughts or how you fared. Best of Luck Planeswalkers.
