MTGA | Friday Night Meta | July 2021 Week 4 | Sultaimatum

Hey Planeswalkers!

Welcome to this week’s Friday Night Meta update! The goal is to equip you faster with information in a fast evolving game, and to get you the right information to help you make the decisions you need to make! This is intended to be a comprehensive view with a lens from Magic the Gathering Arena with impacts from the MTG gaming scene.

This week we come off the back of the June Season wrap up, and immediately into the July Season which will be a fun one!  Also, Happy 4th of July to those in the US.  Also NEW TIER LIST! You can find the article here.

I slice and dice weekly data using untapped.ggs companion app for BO1 & BO3 standard, cover a key deck for the week, and we talk about some key meta impacts!

Additionally feel free to come hang out in the Discord Server.

Last Week’s Episode

Last Week’s Piece

BO1: Mono White Lifegain took its crown back, and all the top 5 archetypes were essentially aggro.

BO3: Mono White Aggro had the biggest winrate going into the end of the season.  Sultai Ultimatum continued its momentum to the moon, and Izzet Dragons continued to crater back down to earth.

Top Deck: Mono Black Auras

Mono White Lifegain & Mono White Aggro are currently the pack leaders for win rate. While the decks that closed out the season still remain pretty similar out of the gates for July.  Aggro, Aggro, and more Aggro.

Sultai Ultimatum continues its archetype of most played domination.  With that though we have begun to see an equal rise in Mono Red Aggro to combat this in a pure hard counter play.  Izzet Dragons have continued to fall.

The best winrates however reside in Mono White Aggro, Naya Adventures, and Gruul Aggro at the moment.  Gruul Aggro has been dominating across tiers as well once again.

Sultaimatum – Sultai Ultimatum

This deck has long been a contender, not always having the best tournament win rates, however definitely taking things down and being reliable.

You definitely can change this list up the way you like, and it certainly continues to evolve.

Event Impacts

Took a look at a slew of tournaments this week ranging from Big Magic to After Office TV.  Gave us a good range, Sultai Ultimatum doing well, and definitely showing despite that an overall continued healthy meta.

June Tier List

A few standard decks I checked out this week were: Rakdos Rogues, Selesnya Magecraft, & Mardu Breach

Some Historic Deck for you: Azorious Auras & Jeskai Control

This week in the Livestream we did some competitive ranking with Historic in Mythic, and one of my favorite things is community appreciation!  Where I play subs, supporters, and fans.   I am also streaming on Youtube as well!

Make sure to stay tuned! I will be releasing the June Tier List soon!

I leverage multiple sources like untapped.ggs companion app stats, MTGAzone, Aetherhub, twitter, personal gameplay, tournament matches (mtg melee,, this reddit as well as others, MTGData,  personal stats, and consistently hitting Mythic and  Mythic Qualifiers.

One last thought I would like to share:

If you have a competitive deck (different than one featured) I am always happy to do a piece on it time permitting. I have several folks that ask, and have done several player featured decks. I rather enjoy this so please don’t hesitate to reach out or ask. I always try to prioritize with the following and timing or relevance – MTGA Rank (1500s)/Top Tournaments, Mythic Unique decks down to Plat2Mythic Decks.  Feel free to hop in the discord server and share your successes or PM/DM me!  Lastly, a great fun way for us to interact is on Twitch where I currently stream x2 a week, and plan to do more in the future.

One other piece, I have recently started doing collaboration videos.  If you are interested please let me know, and I would love to partner!

I wholeheartedly welcome any feedback on how to meet your needs as well as improving your experience!  Additionally, for the near term my focus will be on Standard, and I hope to organically add in Historic in the future.

Thank you for your time, and hope you enjoyed this week’s piece!
