Hey Planeswalkers & Happy Friday!
Welcome to this week’s Friday Night Meta update! The goal is to equip you faster with information in a fast evolving game, and to get you the right information to help you make the decisions you need to make! This is intended to be a comprehensive view with a lens from Magic the Gathering Arena with impacts from the MTG gaming scene.
We are into our second week of the new set, and things are quickly unfolding. We had the Standard Meta Game Challenge this week, and our first view into a standard tournament.
I slice and dice weekly data using untapped.ggs companion app for BO1 & BO3 standard, cover a key deck for the week, and we talk about some key meta impacts!
You can check out the weekly coverage here:
Additionally feel free to come hang out in the Discord Server.
Last Week’s Episode
Last Week’s Piece
BO1: Monon Green Stompy has come roaring into the meta. The top 8 decks currently all have very healthy win rates.
BO3: Mono Green Stompy also roared into BO3. With it a healthy portion of the meta archetype roughly around 20%! Additionally, we saw Dimir Control breaking in to the format.
Top Deck: Mono Green Stompy
Boros Winota continues to dominate the meta in aggregate both in winrates as well as most archetype played. Mono White Aggro is also towards the top in the competitive scene, while Naya Winota is starting to rear its head at the high end of the ladder.
Alternatively Mono Green Stompy has begun to really fall off from where it was a week ago, and starting to lose its commanding position within the Top 8 decks for bo1. Cycling is also starting to pop back in as well, and a deck to keep an eye on.
This week when we examine BO3 we have some pretty big changes here. In aggregate Naya Winota is taking the top percent wins spot, however at large Mono Green Stompy continues to be the most played deck. However, this is starting to fade quickly, and at the upper echelons of competitive play its Naya Winota with a commanding 20%+ of the play meta right now. Jeskai Mutate is also still hanging around in Mythic for the time being.
Two other noteworthy pieces this week is Gruul Magda is becoming more widely adopted, and doing well in this meta in aggregate currently around the #2 spot. The other one has been the disappearance of Dimir Control.
Winona Go Brrrrrr – Naya Winota
Naya Winota has had a crazy leap over the last week in percentage played. It certainly helps when its been a top contender for the #1 spot currently!
You definitely can change this list up the way you like, and it certainly continues to evolve.
Standard: 5C Hub with Mono Green Aggro taking it down! A 100+ event with a pretty diversified top 8!
Standard 2022: Nothing new
Looking forward to what new events lie in wait ahead this weekend! We will get to see the results of the SCG 5K coming out of this weekend!

Make sure to stay tuned! I will be pulling together a new Dungeons & Dragons Tier List here soon!
I leverage multiple sources like untapped.ggs companion app stats, MTGAzone, Aetherhub, twitter, personal gameplay, tournament matches (mtg melee, magic.gg), this reddit as well as others, MTGData, personal stats, and consistently hitting Mythic and Mythic Qualifiers.
One last thought I would like to share:
If you have a competitive deck (different than one featured) I am always happy to do a piece on it time permitting. I have several folks that ask, and have done several player featured decks. I rather enjoy this so please don’t hesitate to reach out or ask. I always try to prioritize with the following and timing or relevance – MTGA Rank (1500s)/Top Tournaments, Mythic Unique decks down to Plat2Mythic Decks. Feel free to hop in the discord server and share your successes or PM/DM me! Lastly, a great fun way for us to interact is on Twitch where I currently stream x2 a week, and plan to do more in the future.
One other piece, I have recently started doing collaboration videos. If you are interested please let me know, and I would love to partner!
I wholeheartedly welcome any feedback on how to meet your needs as well as improving your experience! Additionally, for the near term my focus will be on Standard, and I hope to organically add in Historic in the future.
Thank you for your time, and hope you enjoyed this week’s piece!
