Roblox Plus Private Servers: What's Changing Sept 24

Roblox Plus launched in April 2026 with a headline perk: free, unlimited private servers. That word — unlimited — is gone in three days. Starting September 24, 2026, Plus includes one free private server per game, not as many as you want, and Roblox has already told creators exactly how the cutover works.

This isn't a rumor pieced together from screenshots. Roblox posted the change to its own Developer Forum on July 15, 2026, under the Announcements category, with a full FAQ attached. Here's what it actually says, translated out of creator-speak for players who just want to know what happens to their server.

What's changing on September 24

Right now, a Roblox Plus subscription gets you as many free paid private servers as you want, one per game or a dozen, at no extra cost beyond the subscription itself. On September 24, 2026, that becomes one free private server per game. If you're only ever using one server per game already — which Roblox says describes most Plus members — nothing changes for you. If you've got more than one free server running in the same game, the extras start expiring that day.

This is a Plus-subscription limit, not a private-servers-in-general limit. Servers you pay for directly, outside your Plus allotment, aren't touched at all, and neither are servers that are free for everyone to join regardless of subscription. More on both below.

Why Roblox says it's making the change

Roblox's stated reason is blunt: "a small number of Plus members were creating thousands of free paid private servers per game with broad access," and that behavior was cutting into the revenue creators earn from private servers. The company frames it as an unintended consequence of the unlimited-servers design, not a cost-cutting move against players — "the majority of Plus members only use one free private server per game," so Roblox expects this to land on a small minority of accounts.

There's a second, more mechanical reason buried in the same post: it protects how creators actually get paid for Plus private-server time. That mechanism is worth understanding on its own, so it gets its own section below.

Which server you keep, and how to check

If you've only got one free Plus server per game, skip this section — you keep it, automatically, no action needed.

If you've got more than one in the same game, Roblox picks the one that stays for you: go to Settings > Subscriptions and look for the server labeled "Included with Roblox Plus." That's the one that survives. Every other free server in that same game stops renewing and expires on its own listed date, starting September 24, 2026. Roblox is explicit that you will not be charged for a server that expires this way, and you can manually deactivate any of the extras yourself before that date if you'd rather not wait.

Before vs. after, side by side

What isn't affected

Three things people are likely to assume are affected, based on the DevForum FAQ, are not:

• Anything you bought outright. A private server you purchased at the creator's price, separate from your Plus allowance, keeps running on its original payment method. This change only touches servers you got free through Plus.
• Servers that are free for everyone. Some games offer private servers at no Robux cost to any player, Plus or not. Those aren't part of this change at all — the one-per-game cap applies only to paid private servers that Plus is covering for you.
• Your invited friends' access. A private server stays reachable by everyone you've invited, including while you're offline. That hasn't changed.

You also aren't locked to one server total. You can still run as many private servers as you want in a game after September 24 — you just pay the creator's set price for every one past your single free Plus server.

The payout math this is protecting

Roblox's creator documentation lays out how Plus private-server payouts work: on your subscription's renewal day, Roblox looks at the last 30 days of paid-private-server usage and considers your top five paid private servers. A server only qualifies for a creator payout if you spent at least 60 cumulative minutes in it during that window — below that, the creator earns nothing for your time there.

Spread across five free servers in the same game, that 60-minute clock rarely fills up in any single one, so the creator often collects on none of them. Consolidated into one server, it's far more likely to clear the threshold. Roblox's framing is that the one-per-game cap isn't punishing players, it's fixing a design that was quietly starving the exact creators Plus is supposed to fund.

What to do before September 24

If you're a Plus subscriber running more than one free private server in any single game, do this before the 24th:

1. Open Settings > Subscriptions for each game where you have multiple free servers.
2. Find the one marked "Included with Roblox Plus" — that's the survivor.
3. Decide what you want done with the rest: let them expire on their own (free, automatic, no penalty) or deactivate them yourself now if you'd rather not wait.
4. If losing the extras actually breaks something you use them for — a standing hangout, a build server, a second save state — budget for buying that server outright at whatever price the creator has set.
