CRK Skill Powder Guide — The Level 41 Wall Nobody Warns You About

There is a moment every Cookie Run: Kingdom account hits where skill upgrades stop feeling free. For twenty levels you tap the button, watch a pouch of powder disappear, and watch your damage number go up. Then somewhere past Skill Level 40 the button starts asking for a resource you have eleven of and need a thousand of, and progress simply stops. That is not a bug and it is not bad luck. It is the shape of the Skill Powder economy, and it is by far the steepest cost curve in the game.

The good news is the curve is completely knowable. Skill Powder costs are fixed, published, and identical for every cookie — which means you can plan around them instead of getting ambushed by them. This is the full breakdown: what the three powder tiers are, why there are twenty-four different kinds and only one of them helps you, exactly where the cost explodes, where to farm the stuff, and the honest arithmetic on how long a single cookie actually takes.

Skill level is the lever nobody budgets for

Every cookie's skill has a level that raises separately from the cookie's own level, and raising it improves the skill's numerical stats — the damage multiplier, the heal amount, the shield value, whatever that skill's payload is. Two identical Pure Vanilla Cookies at the same cookie level, same toppings, same promotion stars, will heal for meaningfully different amounts if one is at Skill Level 20 and the other is at Skill Level 60.

That makes skill level one of the largest raw-power levers available to you, and it costs no crystals. You pay in Coins and Skill Powder — nothing else. No gacha, no pity counter, no waiting for a banner. Which is exactly why it deserves a budget rather than the "spend it when I notice it" treatment most players give it. If you already run a tight daily checklist, skill leveling is the line item most likely to be missing from it.

The rule that gates everything

Before any of the costs matter, internalize the hard constraint: a cookie's Skill Level cannot exceed its Cookie Level. A cookie sitting at Level 45 cannot have a Skill Level of 46, no matter how much powder you have hoarded.

This trips people up constantly. Players stockpile Pristine Powder, go to push a key cookie to Skill Level 70, and discover the button is greyed out because the cookie itself is Level 62. Skill leveling and cookie leveling are two parallel tracks that have to advance together, which means your EXP Star Jelly supply is an upstream dependency on your powder spending. Level the cookie first; the skill can only follow.

It also means the two grinds compete for your attention on the same cookies. Half-leveling a wide roster leaves you with a bench full of cookies whose skills are legally capped low. Pick your core, push both tracks on it, and let everything else wait.

Standard, Refined, Pristine: the three powder tiers

Skill Powder exists in three qualities, and which one you need is determined purely by the skill level you are upgrading into:

• Skill Levels 1–20 consume standard Skill Powder.
• Skill Levels 21–40 consume Refined Skill Powder.
• Skill Levels 41 and up consume Pristine Skill Powder.

There is no substitution. You cannot melt down twenty standard powders into a Refined one, and a mountain of Refined powder does nothing for a cookie sitting at Skill Level 45. Each tier break is a hard cutover, which is why accounts routinely stall the week they cross into a new tier with zero stock of the next currency.

The early costs are trivially cheap — Skill Level 2 costs a single powder and 100 Coins — which is exactly what lulls you into ignoring the system until it bites.

24 powders, and only one of them works

Here is the part that quietly wastes the most resources. Skill Powder comes in 24 different varieties: standard, Refined, and Pristine quality for each of the game's eight Cookie Types — Ambush, Bomber, Charge, Defense, Healing, Magic, Ranged, and Support.

The powder must match the cookie's Type. Pristine Magic Powder levels Magic cookies and nothing else. Your gigantic pile of Pristine Ambush Powder is worth exactly zero to the Healing cookie you actually want to upgrade.

This is why "I farm bounties every day and still have no powder" is such a common complaint. Farming on random type selection spreads your income across eight buckets, and eight buckets each one-eighth full will not level anything. The fix is embarrassingly simple and covered in the farming section below: stop taking random rolls. Pick the type your priority cookie needs and take that one, every single day, until that cookie is done.

The Level 41 wall, in actual numbers

Now the numbers that reframe the entire system. Here is the total Skill Powder required to take one cookie's skill from Level 1 all the way to Level 90:

• 100 standard Skill Powder (covers Levels 1–20)
• 110 Refined Skill Powder (covers Levels 21–40)
• 1,510 Pristine Skill Powder (covers Levels 41–90)

That is 1,720 powders total, and 1,510 of them — roughly 88% of the entire lifetime cost — sit above Skill Level 40. Getting a cookie from scratch to Skill Level 40 costs 210 powders. Getting that same cookie from 40 to 90 costs more than seven times as much.

The Coin side is even more lopsided. Reaching Skill Level 40 runs you about 173,000 Coins. The climb from 41 to 90 costs north of three million. Skill leveling is one of the biggest Coin sinks in the game, and if your kingdom's Coin production is neglected, that bill will hurt more than the powder one.

The per-level Pristine cost also ramps hard rather than staying flat. Level 41 asks for 2 Pristine Powder. By Level 50 it is 20 per level. Levels 61 through 70 sit at a flat 30 each, then it steps to 35, 40, 45, and finally 50 Pristine Powder per level for Levels 86–90 — 250 powders for those last five levels alone.

The strategic read is obvious once you see it laid out: Skill Level 40 is cheap and Skill Level 90 is a project. For the overwhelming majority of your roster, 40 is the correct stopping point.

Where Skill Powder actually comes from

Your primary tap is Today's Bounties, specifically the Labyrinth Tactician, and it is not close. Bounties unlock after you clear Stage 2-3 in World Exploration, and the Tactician is the one of the five bosses that pays in powder.

The Tactician has 15 Boss Levels. Refined Powder joins its drop table at Boss Level 4 and Pristine Powder at Boss Level 6, so if you are stuck below Boss Level 6 you are structurally incapable of farming the tier that matters most. A single clear at Boss Level 15 pays 6 standard, 5 Refined, and 15 Pristine Powder. Three details that materially change your income:

• You can lock the powder type. The Tactician lets you manually select which Cookie Type of powder you want instead of leaving it random. This is the single highest-value setting in the entire farming loop and most players never touch it.
• Attempts only burn on wins. You get 6 bounty attempts a day (9 with the Kingdom Pass), and an attempt is only spent when you actually defeat the boss. Probing a Boss Level above your comfort zone is free — always test upward.
• Burning Time is enormous. The Tactician runs +60% on Monday, +80% on Friday, and +100% on Saturday and Sunday. A weekend clear is worth two weekday clears. If you only have the patience for a few focused farming days a week, make them the weekend.

Secondary sources exist but are supplements, not engines: the Medal Shop, the Seaside Market, the Rainbow Shell Gallery, specific World Exploration stages, and Choice Chests. Sweep them, but do not build a plan around them.

Farming math: how long one cookie really takes

Let us put a real number on it, because "it takes a while" is useless advice.

Assume you are clearing Tactician Boss Level 15, you spend all 6 daily attempts there, and you have the powder type locked to the one cookie you care about. That is 6 × 15 = 90 Pristine Powder per day at base rates. Against the 1,510 Pristine needed to go from Skill Level 41 to 90, that is about 17 days of completely focused farming for one cookie.

With the Kingdom Pass and its 9 attempts, you are at 135 a day and the same cookie lands in roughly 11 days. A weekend day at +100% Burning Time is worth two ordinary days. And if you split your six attempts across multiple bounty bosses — which you often should, since the same 6-attempt pool also feeds your Sugar Crystal, Star Jelly, and Coin income — the timeline stretches accordingly.

Seventeen focused days for one cookie's endgame skill is the honest cost, and it is precisely why the answer for most of your roster is Skill Level 40. Nobody is skill-capping fifteen cookies. Plan for two or three.

Who to level, and how far

A priority order that survives contact with an actual account:

1. Your main team's healer and primary damage dealer, to as high as you can afford. Skill scaling hits these two hardest — a healer's heal amount and a nuker's damage multiplier are the numbers that decide whether content clears. If you are only ever taking two cookies past Skill Level 41, make it these.
2. The rest of your main five, to Skill Level 40. Cheap, fast, and it captures the large majority of the available power for 12% of the lifetime powder cost. Cross-check your five against the best PvE teams before committing.
3. Arena and guild specialists, to 40. Same logic. Breadth at 40 beats depth at 70 while your roster is still thin.
4. Everyone else — whenever powder overflows. Collection cookies do not need skill levels.

One extra consideration: Magic Candies and Crystal Jams require the cookie to be at Cookie Level 50, and they permanently rework the skill itself. Skill Powder mistakes that cost you months

• Farming random powder types. The single most expensive habit in this guide. Lock the type to your priority cookie and take it every day.
• Hoarding Pristine for a cookie whose Cookie Level is too low. Skill Level cannot exceed Cookie Level. Check the cookie's level before you plan the spend.
• Sitting below Tactician Boss Level 6. Pristine Powder does not drop below Boss Level 6. If you are stuck, build an Ambush team for the double-ATK bonus and push the ladder — attempts are free unless you win.
• Ignoring Burning Time. A Saturday clear is literally worth two Wednesday clears. Skipping weekends halves your realistic income.
• Skill-leveling wide instead of deep on your carries. Spreading powder across ten cookies is the same mistake as spreading Star Jelly across your whole collection, and it shows up in the beginner mistakes list for a reason.
• Letting Coin production rot. Three million Coins per fully skilled cookie is not a rounding error. Your kingdom's Coin economy is part of your skill economy.

Quick Action Checklist

• Remember the tier breaks: standard for Skill Levels 1–20, Refined for 21–40, Pristine for 41+
• Match the powder to the cookie's Type — there are 24 varieties and only one works
• Lock the Labyrinth Tactician's powder type instead of taking random rolls
• Push the Tactician to at least Boss Level 6 so Pristine Powder starts dropping
• Probe higher Boss Levels freely — attempts are only spent when you win
• Farm hardest on Saturday and Sunday for the +100% Burning Time
• Level the cookie before the skill; Skill Level can never exceed Cookie Level
• Park most of your roster at Skill Level 40 — it is 12% of the lifetime powder cost
