Genshin World Level Guide — What Each Level Pays
World Level is the number on your profile that quietly rewrites your drop table: which artifact rarities and ascension gem tiers bosses can drop, and what a Ley Line Blossom pays. Here is what each of the ten levels changes, which three thresholds actually move money, and exactly what you give up if you lower it.

The Number Behind Your Drop Table
World Level sits on your profile under Adventure Rank and, for half its rungs, climbs on its own. Then you take a character into Ascension Phase 6 — the 80-to-90 step — open a Normal Boss drop screen, and there is no Gemstone in it.
That is not bad luck. The 5-star ascension gem tier — Gemstones — does not drop from Normal Bosses below World Level 6. Below World Level 4 you do not even get 4-star Chunks. The boss is the same boss; the table it rolls on is not.
World Level is the difficulty-and-reward tier of your own copy of Teyvat. It sets open-world enemy levels, Normal Boss and Weekly Boss levels, what those bosses can drop, and what a Ley Line Blossom pays out. It runs from 0 to 9, and the max Adventure Rank of 60 is what eventually carries you to the top of it.
This guide is the whole ladder: what each rung changes, the three rungs that are worth caring about, and the exact bill for lowering it if a fight has become more expensive than it is worth.
Every World Level and the Adventure Rank That Gets You There
Ten World Levels, each tied to an Adventure Rank band. The ranges overlap at the boundaries because four of the steps are gated behind an Ascension Quest you can simply decline to do.
| World Level | Adventure Rank | Approx. enemy levels | Normal Boss | Weekly Boss | What changes at this level |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 1-19 | 1-36 | 36 | — | Starting state |
| 1 | 20-25 | 9-39 | 37 | 39 | — |
| 2 | 25-29 | 20-40 | 41 | 42 | — |
| 3 | 30-35 | 31-51 | 50 | 51 | Weekly Bosses can drop 5-star artifacts |
| 4 | 35-39 | 42-62 | 62 | 63 | Normal Bosses guarantee at least 2 character level-up materials |
| 5 | 40-45 | 53-73 | 72 | 73 | Normal Bosses can drop 5-star artifacts |
| 6 | 45-50 | 64-84 | 83 | 84 | Lv. 90 artifact domains, which guarantee at least one 5-star artifact |
| 7 | 50-54 | 72-92 | 91 | 92 | Two 5-star character level-up materials guaranteed from Weekly Bosses at the highest domain level |
| 8 | 55-57 | 76-98 | 93 | 94 | Normal Bosses guarantee a 5-star artifact |
| 9 | 58-60 | 86-103 | 103 | 104 | Normal Bosses guarantee at least 3 character level-up materials |
Two things to notice before you scroll past it. First, the difficulty does not climb evenly. Normal Boss level moves 1 point from World Level 0 to 1, then 12 points from 3 to 4 (50 to 62), then 2 points from 7 to 8 (91 to 93), then 10 points from 8 to 9 (93 to 103). The steps that hurt and the steps that pay are not the same steps. Second, the Adventure Rank column is not a suggestion: World Level never moves on its own timetable, only on Adventure Rank's.
The Five Quests That Do the Lifting
World Levels 1, 3, 5 and 8 arrive automatically, at Adventure Rank 20, 30, 40 and 55. The other five need a quest.
- Adventure Rank Ascension 1 at AR 25 raises you to World Level 2.
- Adventure Rank Ascension 2 at AR 35 raises you to World Level 4.
- Adventure Rank Ascension 3 at AR 45 raises you to World Level 6.
- Adventure Rank Ascension 4 at AR 50 raises you to World Level 7.
- World Level Ascension is handed to you automatically at AR 58 and raises you to World Level 9.
That last one is a genuine fight, not a formality. It starts at Starsnatch Cliff in Mondstadt and sends you into a quest domain at Midsummer Courtyard against level 100 enemies, with two Cryo Hilichurl Shooters at 120 percent HP and everything else at 135 percent. It pays 100 Primogems, 2 Acquaint Fate and 50,000 Mora, and the ruins themselves hand over 10 Hero's Wit, 25 Mystic Enhancement Ore, 200,000 Mora and a Luxurious chest.
Skipping an Ascension Quest does not throw the experience away. Adventure EXP keeps accumulating while your rank sits still, and the wiki lists the ceiling for each: 1,833,800 EXP banked behind Ascension 1, 1,775,025 behind Ascension 2, 1,672,400 behind Ascension 3 and 1,586,000 behind Ascension 4. Clear the quest and the backlog applies at once. Past Adventure Rank 60 there is nothing left to bank — every further point of Adventure EXP converts to Mora at 1:10.
What a Normal Boss Pays at Each World Level
A Normal Boss blossom costs 40 Original Resin, and unlike a domain or a Trounce Domain it has no difficulty selector — World Level is the only dial. So this is the table to read before deciding whether ascending is urgent.

| World Level | Boss level | Mora | Character EXP | Companionship EXP | Boss material |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 36 | 3,450 | 138 | 30 | 1 + 61.85% |
| 1 | 37 | 3,450 | 138 | 30 | 1 + 61.85% |
| 2 | 41 | 3,650 | 144 | 30 | 1 + 70.37% |
| 3 | 50 | 3,850 | 155 | 35 | 1 + 87.41% |
| 4 | 62 | 4,125 | 166 | 35 | 2 + 4.45% |
| 5 | 72 | 4,450 | 178 | 40 | 2 + 21.49% |
| 6 | 83 | 4,725 | 189 | 40 | 2 + 38.52% |
| 7 | 91 | 5,200 | 200 | 45 | 2 + 55.56% |
| 8 | 93 | 6,000 | 200 | 45 | 2 + 55.56% |
The "boss material" column is the drop you actually came for — the Hurricane Seed, the Lightning Prism, the Hoarfrost Core. At World Level 4 that averages 2.04 per claim; at World Level 7 it averages 2.56. Riding the ladder from 4 to 7 is a 25 percent raise on the same 40 resin, and it costs nothing but Adventure Rank.
Artifacts move harder. Same bosses, same resin, keyed to the same number:
| World Level | 3-star | 4-star | 5-star |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0-2 | 2 + 77.2% | — | — |
| 3 | 3 + 78% | 42% | — |
| 4 | 3 + 36% | 84% | — |
| 5 | 2 + 94% | 1 + 5% | 21% |
| 6 | 2 + 52% | 1 + 26% | 42% |
| 7 | 2 + 10% | 1 + 47% | 63% |
| 8 | 2 + 10% | 1 + 47% | 1 (guaranteed) |
And ascension gems are pure gating, not scaling. Each tier has a World Level below which it simply does not exist:
| Gem tier | First drops at |
|---|---|
| Sliver (2-star) | World Level 0 |
| Fragment (3-star) | World Level 2 |
| Chunk (4-star) | World Level 4 |
| Gemstone (5-star) | World Level 6 |

The Three Thresholds That Actually Move Money
Nine steps, three of which are worth planning around.
- World Level 4 is where Normal Bosses start guaranteeing two boss materials instead of one, and where Chunks appear. This is the first rung where boss farming pays for itself.
- World Level 6 is where 5-star Gemstones start dropping. Ascension Phase 6 costs 6 Gemstones per character, and below World Level 6 you buy them at the Alchemy bench instead: 3 Chunks and 2,700 Mora each, craftable from Adventure Rank 45. That is a 3-for-1 tax on the tier bosses hand you outright from World Level 6, not a wall. It is also the rung the wiki ties to Lv. 90 artifact domains.
- World Level 8 turns the Normal Boss 5-star artifact from a 63 percent chance into a guarantee, and adds 800 Mora per claim on top. It is the biggest single step in the published Normal Boss reward tables.
Everything else on the ladder is incremental. If you are optimising, those are the three you chase.
Ley Line Blossoms Stop Improving at World Level 6
Ley Line Outcrops are the other system World Level rewrites, and they behave differently from bosses in one important way: the reward table flattens at World Level 6 and never moves again.
There are always two outcrops live in each region, one Blossom of Revelation paying character EXP material and one Blossom of Wealth paying Mora. Revitalising either costs 20 Original Resin or 1 Condensed Resin. In Mondstadt and Liyue, Revelation unlocks at Adventure Rank 8 and Wealth at Adventure Rank 12; every other region gates both at Adventure Rank 18 plus at least one activated Statue of The Seven.

| World Level | Enemy level | Avg. character EXP | Mora | Mora per resin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 12 | 25,000 | 12,000 | 600 |
| 1 | 25 | 38,500 | 20,000 | 1,000 |
| 2 | 34 | 52,500 | 28,000 | 1,400 |
| 3 | 46 | 67,500 | 36,000 | 1,800 |
| 4 | 61 | 82,500 | 44,000 | 2,200 |
| 5 | 71 | 102,500 | 52,000 | 2,600 |
| 6 | 78 | 122,500 | 60,000 | 3,000 |
| 7 | 84 | 122,500 | 60,000 | 3,000 |
| 8 | 85-86 | 122,500 | 60,000 | 3,000 |
| 9 | 95 | 122,500 | 60,000 | 3,000 |
Read the bottom four rows again. A World Level 9 account fights outcrop enemies at level 95 instead of 78 and collects exactly the same 60,000 Mora as a World Level 6 account fighting them at 78. The Mora rate tops out at 3,000 per resin and stays there.
That flat tail is the strongest argument on this page for the descend button, which is where we go next.
You Can Lower Your World Level, and Here Is the Bill
Once you have reached World Level 3, a Change World Level option appears in the World Level tooltip on your Profile. It drops you one level.
The rules are tight:
- One adjustment per 24 hours. After you lower it, you cannot put it back until the timer expires — and after putting it back, you cannot lower it again until another 24 hours pass. Each move burns the whole window.
- It cannot be changed in Co-Op Mode at all.
- It lowers the level of Ley Line Blossoms and of opponents in the open world, and lowers the rewards they pay out with them.
So what does one step down actually cost? Match it against the tables above.
| Step down | What you lose |
|---|---|
| 9 to 8 | No change to Ley Line payouts, and Normal Boss level falls 103 to 93 — but World Level 9's guarantee of at least 3 boss materials becomes World Level 8's 2 + 55.56% |
| 8 to 7 | The guaranteed 5-star artifact from Normal Bosses, down to 63 percent, and 800 Mora per boss claim |
| 7 to 6 | 5-star artifact odds 63 to 42 percent; boss Mora 5,200 to 4,725 |
| 6 to 5 | 5-star Gemstones stop dropping entirely, and Ley Line Mora falls 60,000 to 52,000 |
| 5 to 4 | 5-star artifacts stop dropping from Normal Bosses |
| 4 to 3 | Chunks stop dropping, and the 2-material boss guarantee is gone |
The shape of that list is the advice. Dropping from 9 to 8 is the cheapest move on the ladder — Ley Line payouts do not move at all — but it is not free: you trade World Level 9's guarantee of at least three boss materials for World Level 8's average of 2.56, roughly half a material per 40-resin claim. Dropping to 7 gives back the biggest step in the published boss tables. Dropping below 6 puts every Gemstone through the Alchemy bench at 3 Chunks apiece.
If open-world fights have become a chore, one step down from 9 is the cheapest fix on offer. Two steps is a real decision. Three means paying 3 Chunks per Gemstone for as long as you stay there.
There is one more rule worth knowing before you touch it: joining another player's world in Co-Op Mode requires a World Level equal to or higher than the host's, with a single exception — if the host is World Level 9, a World Level 8 guest can still join. Descend twice from 9 and your World Level 9 friends' worlds close to you.
What World Level Does Not Control
Plenty of the game ignores this number completely, and knowing which half is which is what makes descending safe.
Domain tiers run on Adventure Rank, not World Level. The wiki lists Lv. 90 artifact domains against World Level 6 but footnotes that they do not require Ascension Quest 3, and its domain table keys every tier to an Adventure Rank: artifact domains at AR 22, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45, forgery domains at AR 16 through 40, mastery domains at AR 27 through 45, and Trounce Domains at AR 25 through 50. The adjustment note names Ley Line Blossoms and open-world opponents only.
Weekly Bosses are mostly the same story, because a Trounce Domain has a difficulty selector. The exception is Andrius, which is fought in the open world in Wolvendom with no selector at all, so it follows your World Level — full reward-by-World-Level table in our weekly boss guide.
The systems themselves are all Adventure Rank gates too:
| Adventure Rank | Unlocks |
|---|---|
| 8 | Blossom of Revelation Ley Line Outcrops |
| 12 | Blossom of Wealth Ley Line Outcrops, daily commissions |
| 14 | Expeditions |
| 16 | Co-Op Mode, Domains of Forgery |
| 20 | Spiral Abyss, Battle Pass |
| 22 | Domains of Blessing |
| 24 | Adventure Encounters |
| 25 | Reputation |
| 26 | Story Keys |
| 27 | Domains of Mastery |
| 28 | Serenitea Pot, Travelers' Tales |
| 30 | Genius Invokation TCG |
| 35 | Imaginarium Theater, Repertoire of Myriad Melodies |
| 45 | Mystic Offering (Artifact Strongbox) |
| 55 | Valiant Chronicles |
Character and weapon level caps are Adventure Rank gates as well, which is why a low-World-Level account can still be perfectly well built. The per-character material bill behind those caps is in our talent and ascension material guide, and the resin budget that funds it is in our resin management guide.
Where the Published Numbers Run Out
One honest caveat, because it changes what you can plan around.
The Adventure Rank page lists World Level 9 in full: Adventure Rank 58-60, enemy levels 86-103, Normal Boss level 103, Weekly Boss level 104, and a note that Normal Bosses guarantee at least three character level-up materials there. But the reward template the wiki renders on boss pages — the one the Mora, character EXP and artifact tables above come from — has no World Level 9 row. It stops at 8.
So the World Level 9 boss reward figures are not published. This guide does not give them, and neither should anything else. The three-material guarantee is stated on the Adventure Rank page; the Mora and artifact numbers behind it are not documented anywhere we could open. Treat any specific World Level 9 boss payout you see quoted as unsourced until the reward table grows a row.
Quick Action Checklist
- World Level runs 0 to 9 and follows Adventure Rank, which caps at 60. Past AR 60, Adventure EXP converts to Mora at 1:10.
- Levels 1, 3, 5 and 8 arrive automatically at AR 20, 30, 40 and 55. Levels 2, 4, 6 and 7 need Ascension Quests at AR 25, 35, 45 and 50. Level 9 needs the World Level Ascension quest, handed to you at AR 58.
- Chunks start dropping from Normal Bosses at World Level 4, and 5-star Gemstones at World Level 6. Ascension Phase 6 needs 6 Gemstones per character; below World Level 6 you craft each one from 3 Chunks and 2,700 Mora at Adventure Rank 45 or above.
- World Level 8 is the biggest reward step in the boss tables: Normal Bosses guarantee a 5-star artifact and pay 6,000 Mora per 40-resin claim, up from 5,200.
- Ley Line Blossom rewards flatten at World Level 6 — 122,500 average character EXP and 60,000 Mora for 20 resin, unchanged all the way to World Level 9.
- Change World Level unlocks at World Level 3, moves one step at a time, allows one adjustment per 24 hours, and is disabled in Co-Op Mode.
- Descending from 9 to 8 leaves Ley Line payouts untouched but gives up World Level 9's three-boss-material guarantee. Descending below 6 stops Gemstones dropping from Normal Bosses.
- Domains, Trounce Domain tiers and every system unlock run on Adventure Rank, not World Level. Andrius is the one Weekly Boss that follows World Level.
