Best Cards from Cookie Run: Braverse — Land of Fire & Ruin, Realm of Apathy
BS8 is the landmark set: it invented the Beast keyword and the EXTRA card type. Burning Spice and Mystic Flour headline, Golden Cheese and Dark Cacao reanimate, and Frost Queen freezes. Here are the standout BS8 cards ranked by color and role, with real cost, HP, and skill text off the official database.

Every Cookie Run: Braverse set adds cards. This one added rules. Land of Fire & Ruin, Realm of Apathy - the BS8 booster, out October 28, 2025 - is the set that invented the Beast keyword and printed the game's first EXTRA cards, the layered top-end Cookies that half the modern archetypes are built on. If you want to understand why Braverse plays the way it does now, you rewind to here. It's also just a stacked box: Burning Spice, Mystic Flour, Golden Cheese, Dark Cacao, and Frost Queen all live in this one product.
This is the set review: what BS8 actually added to the game, the standout cards ranked off the official card-database text, and a straight answer on what to chase whether you're collecting or building. Quick notation refresher before we start - the {R}/{Y}/{G}/{B}/{P} symbols are each color's resource, {N} is any color, and a number after an attack name is its damage. BS8 leans hard on the Break Area, the trash, and fainting rather than any single gimmick, so it plays like a toolbox instead of a one-trick set. It's the first Beast set, so if you came to it from A Game of Truth and Deceit or Paradise of Passion & Sloth, these are the original Beasts everything since has been iterating on (our best Beast cards ranking puts them in context across every set). All costs, HP, and skill text below are quoted directly from the official database.
What Land of Fire & Ruin adds
Three things make this set a landmark rather than just another booster.
First, the Beast keyword itself. BS8 is where Beasts start. It ships exactly two Beast-keyword Cookies: Burning Spice Cookie (BS8-009, Red, Ultra Rare, 5 HP, LV.3) and Mystic Flour Cookie (BS8-059, Green, Ultra Rare, 6 HP, LV.3) - the two "sin" bosses the set's dual title points at. Land of Fire & Ruin is Burning Spice's scorched-earth Red half; Realm of Apathy is Mystic Flour's grinding Green half. Every later Beast in the game descends from these two.
Second, the EXTRA card type. This is the bigger deal long-term. EXTRA Cookies aren't played from hand the normal way - they have a condition gate and layer on top of your board, and BS8 is where they debut. The set prints a full spread of them: Avatar of Ruin (BS8-005, Red), Peak of Apathy (BS8-069, Green), Will of Nature (BS8-090, Blue), plus the two Ancient EXTRAs below. If you've never built around them, our EXTRA deck guide walks the whole card type - and it all traces back to this box.
Third, it's a returning-Ancient set with two reanimator Ancients. BS8 prints Golden Cheese Cookie (BS8-027, Yellow, Ancient EXTRA) and Dark Cacao Cookie (BS8-104, Purple, Ancient EXTRA), and unlike the prestige-only Ancients in later sets, these two come with entire support packages built to replay them from the break area and the trash. For the broader Ancient picture, see our best Ancient cards ranking; for where BS8 sits on the release ladder, our sets and release timeline.
How we ranked these
Same three-axis discipline as our overall card ranking: rarity, raw effect impact (what the official text actually does on the board), and competitive relevance (how reliably it fires and how many decks want it). A card has to score on more than one axis to climb - an Ultra Rare that needs a specific board state ranks behind a Cookie that just draws you cards the turn it lands. As always, this is our read, not an official tier list, and nothing in this set is banned.
The two headline Beasts
The two Beasts are the face of the set, so they lead. Ranked head-to-head by how easily they take over a game:
- Mystic Flour Cookie (BS8-059, Green, Ultra Rare, 6 HP, LV.3, Beast). The best card in the set and the cleanest engine. Her Pale Plague skill is Activate, Once Per Turn: pay {G} and return 2 {G} cards from your Support area to hand, then - if there's no other Mystic Flour in your battle area - place up to 2 cards from the top of each of your opponent's Cookies' HP into the trash. That's board-wide HP removal every single turn, not a one-shot. A 6-HP body that quietly shaves two HP off the opponent's whole team each round is how Realm of Apathy grinds you into dust. Her own attack, Whispers of Apathy, only hits for 1 - she doesn't need to swing, she wins by attrition.
- Burning Spice Cookie (BS8-009, Red, Ultra Rare, 5 HP, LV.3, Beast). The scorched-earth centerpiece. The Great Destroyer's Return is Activate, Once Per Turn: pay {R} and, if there's another Cookie in your battle area, all other Cookies take 1 damage - yours included, which is a feature, because it feeds the faint-matters cards around him. Then the same skill scales him: for every 3 levels your Break Area has reached, he gains +1 attack damage this turn, on top of a Tyrant's Wrath swing of {R}{R}{N} for 3. In a deep-Break-Area game he hits like a truck. He ranks second only because his ping hurts your own board and his damage ramp needs the game to go long.
The honest read: both are real archetype bosses, but Mystic Flour is the more oppressive card. Burning Spice wants a built deck and a stacked Break Area; Mystic Flour is warping the board the moment she lands and never stops.
Best Red cards: the Land of Fire & Ruin engine

Red is the aggression half - it wants Cookies to die, because half its payoffs check for faints:
- Burning Spice Cookie (BS8-009). Covered above - the Beast and the deck's reason to exist.
- Avatar of Ruin (BS8-005, Red, Ultra Rare, EXTRA, 5 HP, LV.3). The set's most explosive EXTRA. Its Ruinous Blade condition: you can play it if 2 or more of your Cookies fainted this turn - exactly the state Burning Spice's self-ping and Red's suicide attackers create. On Play, all your opponent's Cookies take 1 damage, and its Power of the Destroyer attack ({R}{R}{R} for 3) then deals 1 more to all other Cookies. A board-wide burn that comes down free after a trade turn - this is the Red payoff.
- Red Velvet Cookie (BS8-010, Red, Super Rare, 4 HP, LV.2). The faint engine. Furious Incineration pings an opposing Cookie for 1 whenever one of your Cookies faints this turn, and his Crimson Hand attack ({R}{R}{N} for 3) can make one of your own Cookies faint - which triggers his own skill. A self-contained sacrifice loop that fuels Avatar of Ruin at the same time.
- Nutmeg Tiger Cookie (BS8-006, Red, Super Rare, 5 HP, LV.2). A clean double-ping. Nutmeg Fireball hits for 1, then deals 1 to a selected Cookie from each player - more suicide-fuel that also chips the opponent, on a sturdy 5-HP body.
Red is the most proactive deck in BS8: throw bodies away, ping everything, drop Avatar of Ruin for the kill. Burning Spice is the boss, but the faint package is the actual engine.
Best Green cards: the Realm of Apathy engine

Green is the attrition half, built to out-resource you and quietly delete your HP:
- Mystic Flour Cookie (BS8-059). The Beast, covered above - the every-turn HP-removal engine.
- Peak of Apathy (BS8-069, Green, Ultra Rare, EXTRA, 4 HP, LV.2). The Support-ramp EXTRA. Its Red Eyes condition: playable if your Support area has 2 or more cards fewer than your opponent's - a state Mystic Flour's Support-bouncing tends to create. On Play, place a {G} card from your trash into your Support as active, so it claws back the resource Mystic Flour spent. It's the glue that keeps the Green engine from running itself dry.
- Peach Blossom Cookie (BS8-060, Green, Super Rare, 4 HP, LV.2). The flexible value piece. Heavenly Fruit is Once Per Turn: return a {G} card from Support to hand, then choose - give one of your Cookies +1 HP, or deal 1 damage to an opposing Cookie. Heal or ping on demand, every turn, off a 4-HP body. Exactly the kind of modal card a grind deck wants.
- Cloud Haetae Cookie (BS8-052, Green, Super Rare, 2 HP, LV.1). A cheap ramp burst. Haetae Charge sacrifices itself to place up to 2 {G} cards from hand into your Support area as rested - the fastest way to hit the Support count Green's EXTRAs and Soul Jam care about.
Green is the harder deck to pilot - it's a resource war, not a race - but Mystic Flour's every-turn HP tax plus Peach Blossom's modal value make it the most inevitable engine in the set.
Best Yellow cards: the Golden Cheese loop

Yellow doesn't get a Beast - it gets an Ancient that refuses to stay dead:
- Golden Cheese Cookie (BS8-027, Yellow, Ultra Rare, Ancient EXTRA, +2 HP, LV.3). The immortality engine. As an EXTRA she can be Awakened if a Golden Cheese was played from your break area this turn, and her own skill loops her: while she's in the break area, trash her to move a Golden Cheese from your trash back into the break area, ready to replay. Her Wings of Immortality attack ({Y}{Y}{Y} for 3) then deals 1 to all your opponent's Cookies. A recurring 3-damage-plus-board-ping body that you keep bringing back is a nightmare to grind through. (Her non-EXTRA print, BS8-026, is a straightforward 5-HP wall that self-heals when low.)
- Smoked Cheese Cookie (BS8-034, Yellow, Super Rare, 5 HP, LV.2). The best enabler. Once Per Turn, if there's a Cookie in your break area, place this and a hand Cookie into the break area to play a Golden Cheese from there - and set its HP to 6. That's how you get an oversized Golden Cheese online early.
- Burnt Cheese Cookie (BS8-032, Yellow, Super Rare, 2 HP, LV.1). The cheap version of the same idea. Sacrifice it and a LV.2+ hand Cookie into the break area to draw up to 2 and play a Golden Cheese from the break area. Card advantage plus a free Ancient - a fantastic rate off a 2-HP body.
Yellow is a one-card deck in the best way: everything exists to keep Golden Cheese cycling. It's slower to set up than Red, but once the loop is running it's brutally hard to close out.
Best Purple cards: the Dark Cacao reanimator

Purple is the trash-value color, and its Ancient plays the same "come back from the dead" game as Golden Cheese - from the trash instead of the break area:
- Dark Cacao Cookie (BS8-104, Purple, Ultra Rare, Ancient EXTRA, +2 HP, LV.3). The Purple boss. His No retreat! EXTRA clause lets you Awaken him if a Dark Cacao was played from your trash this turn, and his On Play discards a card to return a {P} card from the trash to hand - refueling as he lands. His Dragon Lord's Judgment attack costs {P}{P}{P}{P} for 4 damage, then places a card off the top of an opposing Cookie's HP into the trash. Big body, hand refill, and removal-on-attack, on a Cookie you can keep replaying. The best Purple card in the set.
- Crunchy Chip Cookie (BS8-119, Purple, Super Rare, 3 HP, LV.2). The dedicated tutor. Unfaltering Fealty: pay {P}, sacrifice him, and play a Dark Cacao straight out of your trash. This is the card that turns Dark Cacao from "a good card" into "a card you see every game."
- Caramel Arrow Cookie (BS8-120, Purple, Super Rare, 3 HP, LV.1). The trash payoff. Once Per Turn, discard a card and - if there are 15 or more cards in your trash - play a LV.2+ Cookie from the trash. In a self-milling Purple shell that threshold fills fast, and then Caramel Arrow is a repeatable reanimation engine on a 1-cost body.
Purple wants a full trash and a target to bring back. Load it up, cross 15 cards in the bin, and Dark Cacao stops being a single threat and becomes a recurring one.
Best Blue cards: Frost Queen and the freeze package

Blue skips both Beasts and Ancients, but it gets the set's best tempo-and-draw package:
- Frost Queen Cookie (BS8-083, Blue, Ultra Rare, 5 HP, LV.3). Blue's headliner and one of the most annoying cards in BS8. Her Freezing Aura On Play pays {B} to select an opposing Cookie that is not set as active during your opponent's next Active Phase - a hard freeze that buys you a full turn of tempo. Then her attack ({B}{B}{B} for 3) draws you back up to 3 cards in hand. Freeze a threat and refill your hand in one card - that's a control player's dream turn.
- Will of Nature (BS8-090, Blue, Ultra Rare, EXTRA, 5 HP, LV.3). The card-advantage EXTRA. Its Ring of Life condition: playable if you have 2 or fewer cards in hand - a state Blue reaches naturally when it's dumping resources. On Play, bounce a LV.2-or-lower {B} Cookie back to hand (re-triggering its On Play), and its Echoes of Nature attack ({B}{B}{B} for 3) draws up to 2. A refuel button that shows up exactly when you're empty.
- Sherbet Cookie (BS8-084, Blue, Super Rare, 5 HP, LV.2). A soft lock. While Sherbet is rested in the battle area, your opponent can't attack without discarding a card from hand - a passive tax that stacks with the freeze plan. His own attack also digs a card when your hand is low.
- Icicle Yeti Cookie (BS8-076, Blue, Super Rare, 3 HP, LV.1). The cheap freeze. Frozen Icicles hits for 1, bottoms itself to draw, and forces an opposing Cookie to stay inactive next turn unless the opponent discards 2 - cheap, recurring, never a dead draw.
Blue is the control color of BS8: no boss, it just freezes yours, taxes your attacks, and never runs out of cards.
The Soul Jams and the Ancients
BS8 ships two Soul Jams, each tied to one of the two Beasts:
| Card | Color | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Soul Jam: Light of Destruction (BS8-021) | Red | SR Item. Pay {R}{R}: all Cookies except Burning Spice take 1 damage. Then equip it to your Burning Spice Cookie - and when he attacks, if your Break Area is LV.8 or higher, your opponent cannot activate traps during that battle. A board wipe plus trap-proof swings for the boss. |
| Soul Jam: Light of Apathy (BS8-072) | Green | SR Item. Pay {G}{G}: if you have fewer Support cards than your opponent, dig 2 off the top - one to Support active, the rest rested. Then equip it to your Mystic Flour Cookie for +1 HP. Ramp plus a bulkier boss. |
Both follow the template every later Soul Jam copies: a small immediate effect, then an optional equip to the matching Beast. Light of Destruction is the flashier of the two - a board wipe that dodges your own boss and then turns off traps in a deep-Break-Area game is genuinely game-ending. Light of Apathy is quieter but lines up perfectly with Green's Support-war plan.
On the Ancient side, remember the twist that makes BS8 special: Golden Cheese and Dark Cacao aren't prestige-only reprints, they're the centerpieces of two full reanimator archetypes. That's different from later sets where the Ancient is a shiny returning face. Here, the whole Yellow and Purple support shells exist to replay them. For the rarity ladder and which alt-arts are worth chasing, see our rarities and collecting guide.
Who should chase what
If you're collecting, the marquee pulls are the two Beasts - Mystic Flour (BS8-059) and Burning Spice (BS8-009) - plus the two Ancient EXTRAs, Golden Cheese (BS8-027) and Dark Cacao (BS8-104), all of which have Secret and alt-art chase versions. Frost Queen (BS8-083) rounds out the "iconic character" pulls. This is a high-prestige box; the Secret-rarity versions of these five are the crown jewels of early Braverse.
If you're building to win, chase by deck. Green Realm of Apathy is the strongest and most complete archetype: Mystic Flour, Peak of Apathy, Peach Blossom, and Light of Apathy give you a finished grind engine. Yellow Golden Cheese and Purple Dark Cacao are the two reanimator decks - both want their full support package (Smoked/Burnt Cheese for Yellow; Crunchy Chip and Caramel Arrow for Purple) to really sing. Red is the aggro option built on faints and Avatar of Ruin, and Blue is the tempo-control splash headlined by Frost Queen.
The honest read on Land of Fire & Ruin, Realm of Apathy: it's the most important set in the game and one of the deepest. It didn't just add cards, it added the Beast keyword and the EXTRA type that every set since has built on. Mystic Flour is the quiet best card - an every-turn HP tax that grinds you out - while Burning Spice, Golden Cheese, Dark Cacao, and Frost Queen each anchor a real archetype. If you're chasing one deck, build Green; if you're chasing the game's history, this is the box where the modern rules were written.
Quick Action Checklist
- Mystic Flour Cookie (BS8-059) is the best card in the set. A 6-HP Green Beast that trashes two HP off every opposing Cookie each turn - chase her first if you're building to win.
- Burning Spice Cookie (BS8-009) anchors Red aggro. A Beast that pings the whole board and scales his own damage with your Break Area level - the scorched-earth boss.
- Golden Cheese (BS8-027) and Dark Cacao (BS8-104) are reanimator engines, not just Ancients. Yellow loops Golden Cheese from the break area; Purple replays Dark Cacao from the trash. Both come with full support packages.
- Frost Queen (BS8-083) carries Blue. Freeze an opposing Cookie and refill your hand to three in one card - the tempo-control headliner.
- Avatar of Ruin (BS8-005) is the Red payoff. A free board-wide burn EXTRA after a turn where two of your Cookies faint.
- The two Soul Jams glue the two Beasts. Light of Destruction (BS8-021) wipes the board and turns off traps for Burning Spice; Light of Apathy (BS8-072) ramps and buffs Mystic Flour.
- This is where Beasts and EXTRA cards begin. BS8 is the foundational set - collect for the five iconic Cookies, build Green first.
