Time Shadow Cookie Toppings — The 70% CRIT Breakpoint
Time Shadow Cookie is the rare Cookie whose cooldown is bought with CRIT. His passive trades 2.00% of Topping CRIT% for 1.00% cooldown reduction up to a -35.0% ceiling, and the wiki names 70% Topping CRIT as the number that gets you there. Add up the published Juicy Apple Jelly values and five maxed Toppings hand you 53.00% CRIT before a single bonus effect rolls.

Most Cookie Run: Kingdom build questions come down to which stat multiplies the most damage. Time Shadow Cookie's does not. His passive line reads Cooldown -1.0% per 2.0% CRIT% gained from Toppings, capped at -35.0% — which means the CRIT rolls on his gear are not just crit chance, they are his cooldown, and the two stats stop competing for slots.
The wiki's notes section puts a number on the ceiling: 70% CRIT% in Toppings is required for the maximum Cooldown Reduction. That is a build target, not a vibe, and it is the kind of target worth checking with a calculator before you spend Topping Pieces. So I did. A five-piece Juicy Apple Jelly set at +12 is already 53.00% of the way there before a single bonus effect has rolled, and the last 17.00% is what your upgrade luck is actually buying.
Here is the whole sheet: his kit, the conversion, the arithmetic that decides your gear plan, and the parts of the sheet that are still blank.
Who Time Shadow Cookie is

| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Super Epic |
| Type | Ambush |
| Position | Middle |
| Element | Darkness |
| Skill | Shadowplay |
| Released | August 26, 2026 |
| Update | v7.8, listed on the wiki as Time Breakers: Fatal Fixers |
| Released alongside | Pulpo Cookie (Epic, Support, Front) |
| Resonant set | Shadowplay |
| Wiki-recommended Toppings | Juicy Apple Jelly |
| Wiki-recommended sub-stats | Cooldown, CRIT%, DMG Resist |
One detail in that table is worth pausing on. The wiki's infobox lists one recommended Topping type for him, and it is the CRIT one. The two Cookies from the previous update — Nether Queen Cookie and Asphodel Cookie — each list two. On him the narrowing tracks the passive: CRIT% is the only stat his skill text converts into something else.
The passive that decides the build
The Time Shadow buff he gains at the start of every battle is a stack of flat numbers, and one conversion:
- Debuff Immunity for 15.0 seconds, once, at the start of battle
- Self: Max HP +35.0%, DMG Resist +35.0%, DMG Dampening 41.5%, CRIT Chance Down Resist +75.0%, Cooldown Speed Debuff Resist +75.0%, and immunity to Remaining Cooldown debuffs
- All allies: ATK +35.0%
- Cooldown -1.0% per 2.0% CRIT% gained from Toppings, capped at -35.0%
The conversion is linear and it is capped, which turns his gear plan into a single arithmetic problem. Two points of Topping CRIT buy one point of cooldown reduction, and the meter stops at -35.0%.
CRIT to cooldown, the whole conversion table
| CRIT% from Toppings | Cooldown reduction from the passive |
|---|---|
| 20% | -10.0% |
| 30% | -15.0% |
| 40% | -20.0% |
| 50% | -25.0% |
| 60% | -30.0% |
| 68% | -34.0% |
| 70% or more | -35.0% (capped) |
Why -35.0% is the number Devsisters picked is not a mystery. Cooldown Reduction in Cookie Run: Kingdom is capped at 60%, and the Squishy Jelly Watch is a Common treasure that supplies 25.0% at Level 12. Thirty-five plus twenty-five is sixty. His passive is built to be the other half of a maxed Watch.

The Watch is a Common treasure and it reduces cooldown for every allied Cookie, not just him, so it is the cheaper half to build. If your Squishy Jelly Watch is sitting at Level 5, fix that before you reroll a single Topping.
Can you actually reach 70 percent?
Now the arithmetic, and the number people get wrong first is the main stat. The wiki's Topping table prints +3% beside a Juicy Apple Jelly M, but that is its value at Level 0. A Topping's main stat climbs with every upgrade — half a point a level on this one — and lands on +9.00% CRIT% at +12, which is the level an M Topping has to reach anyway, because its third bonus-effect slot does not open until +12.
| Source | CRIT% contributed |
|---|---|
| Juicy Apple Jelly M at +12, main stat, x5 | +45.00% (9.00% each) |
| Juicy Apple Jelly Equip 5 set bonus | +8.00% |
| Guaranteed before a single bonus effect rolls | 53.00% |
| 15 bonus-effect slots (3 per M Topping, at +6, +9 and +12) | up to +45.00% (3.00% each) |
| Ceiling, five Toppings only | 98.00% |
So the 70% note is a target five Toppings can hit on their own. Fifty-three is free once the set is maxed. The remaining 17.00% has to come out of fifteen bonus-effect slots that roll CRIT% at 1.00% to 3.00% each — six maximum rolls clear it, fifteen slots that all roll something else do not.
That conclusion survives the strictest reading of the passive, too. Even if the Equip 5 bonus does not count as CRIT "gained from Toppings" because it is a set effect rather than a Topping's own stat, the five main stats alone are 45.00% and the bonus slots can carry the other 25.00%.
What the tart actually buys you

A Topping Tart is separate gear added in v6.3. A Cookie equips one, it grants only its primary stat, it never needs levelling or rerolling — and a tart matching your Topping type pushes the set from Equip 5 to Equip 6. For Juicy Apple Jelly that is +10.00% CRIT% instead of +8.00%, and the M-rarity tart itself rolls +6.60% to +11.00% CRIT% when crafted.
What it does not do is make 70% possible. It makes 70% cheap in rolls:
| Build | Guaranteed before bonus effects | Still needed for 70% |
|---|---|---|
| 5x Juicy Apple Jelly M at +12 | 53.00% | 17.00% |
| … plus an M tart on its worst roll (+6.60%) | 61.60% | 8.40% |
| … plus an M tart on its best roll (+11.00%) | 66.00% | 4.00% |
Cutting the amount fifteen random rolls have to carry from seventeen points to four is the whole case for the tart. An M tart costs 200 Flour Stone, 20 Sugar Ore and 1 Butter Amber in the Mine Workshop, and it never needs upgrading afterwards. One caveat, spelled out in the last section: whether a tart counts as CRIT "gained from Toppings" for his passive specifically is not stated anywhere.
The build
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Toppings x5 | Juicy Apple Jelly | The only Topping type the wiki recommends for him, and the only one whose main stat is the CRIT% his passive converts |
| Topping Tart | Juicy Apple Jelly M | Upgrades the set to Equip 6 (+10.00% CRIT%) and adds +6.60% to +11.00% on top |
| Sub-stat priority | CRIT% > Cooldown > DMG Resist | The wiki lists Cooldown, CRIT% and DMG Resist; CRIT% goes first because it pays twice |
| Beascuit | Crispy (Ambush) | Beascuits are type-locked, and Crispy is the Ambush type |
| Treasure | Squishy Jelly Watch to Lv.12 | -25.0% cooldown, the other half of his -35.0% cap |
The reason CRIT% outranks Cooldown in the sub-stat order is worth spelling out, because it inverts the normal Topping priority. A Cooldown bonus effect rolls in a 1.00% to 2.00% band. A CRIT% bonus effect rolls 1.00% to 3.00%, and on Time Shadow half of that value converts to cooldown on top of being crit chance. A 3.00% CRIT roll is worth 3.00% CRIT plus 1.50% cooldown. A 2.00% Cooldown roll is worth 2.00% cooldown and nothing else.
Note the exact wording of the passive: CRIT% gained from Toppings. A Beascuit is not a Topping, and neither is a treasure. Whatever CRIT% you pick up from those slots is crit chance only.
Shadowplay Toppings on Time Shadow
Shadowplay is the Resonant Topping set that shipped in the same update. Three Cookies can equip it: Time Shadow Cookie, Fire Spirit Cookie and Pulpo Cookie. That is the entire roster.

Shadowplay is one of the post-v6.8 sets produced in all ten standard Topping types, so a Shadowplay Juicy Apple Jelly exists. On this Cookie specifically, that matters more than it does on most:
- Resonant bonus effects draw from a six-stat pool — ATK, ATK SPD, CRIT%, Cooldown, DMG Resist, CRIT Resist — instead of the standard ten. DEF, HP, Amplify Buff and Debuff Resist are not in it, and none of those four appears among the three sub-stats the wiki recommends for him.
- The CRIT% band on a Resonant Topping is 2.00% to 3.00% instead of 1.00% to 3.00%. The maximum does not move, so the 98.00% ceiling above is unchanged — the floor does, which on a fifteen-slot set is worth up to 15.00% CRIT.
Those two facts together are the argument for Shadowplay over a standard Epic set on him: not a higher ceiling, a much narrower spread of outcomes on the stat that pays twice. The full set list and the roll bands are in the Resonant Toppings guide.
The Crispy Beascuit slot

Beascuits are type-locked, and Ambush takes the Crispy Beascuit. A Legendary at Lv.30 grants ATK +30% and HP +35% with four bonus-effect slots, against three on an Epic and two on a Rare.
Legendary bonus-effect ranges relevant to him:
| Bonus effect | Legendary range |
|---|---|
| ATK | 3% – 7.5% |
| CRIT% | 3% – 7% |
| Cooldown | 2% – 6% |
| DMG Resist | 5% – 10% |
| DMG Resist Bypass | 5% – 15% |
| Element DMG | 8% – 15% |
Two of his three damage lines are explicitly Darkness-tagged — Shadow Trick at 84.9% of ATK per hit and Shadow Greeting at 2,011.5% at max skill level — so a Tainted Darkness Beascuit, whose first slot is permanently locked to +20% Element DMG, lands on the majority of his output. Tainted Legendaries only drop from Beast Raids and related events. His third line, Shadow Dominion, is listed as True DMG, and the sheet does not say how Element DMG interacts with it, so treat the Tainted roll as covering the first two and leave it there. The Beascuit tier list and the dough and upgrade costs cover the grind itself.
Shadowplay, number by number
The skill is long. These are the parts that change how you play him rather than how you gear him, at max skill level:
| Component | Effect |
|---|---|
| Shadow Trick | x25 hits over 5.0 sec, 84.9% of ATK per hit as Darkness damage; ignores 40.0% of DMG Resist |
| Shadow Trick debuff | Buff effects -30.0%, Debuff effects +35.0% for 30.0 sec, x1 stack |
| Shadow Deception | Cooldown Recovery Speed -50.0% for 30.0 sec on enemy Common, Rare, Special and Epic Cookies |
| Weakness | DMG Taken +2.0% for 20.0 sec, stacking to x20, applied when Shadow Trick's hits land a CRIT |
| Shadow Greeting | 2,011.5% of ATK as Darkness damage; ignores 40.0% of DMG Resist |
| Consuming Darkness | CRIT% -5.0% and Healing Received -5.0% for 8.0 sec, stacking to x3 |
| Shadow Dominion | Stun 3.5 sec, Remaining Cooldown +3.5 sec, Cooldown Speed -50.0% for 15.0 sec, HP Shield Capacity -85.0% for 25.0 sec, plus 239.5% of ATK as True damage every 0.5 sec for 10.0 sec |
| Brand Absorption | On defeating a Shadow Brand target: DMG Dealt to Cookies +27.0% and DMG Dampening 30.0% for 20.0 sec |
| Ontological Stabilization | On being defeated: Immortality for 6.0 sec once per battle, remaining cooldown reset, and he immediately uses his skill |
Two wrinkles live in the source itself, not in the table above. The skill box prints Shadow Deception as Cooldown Recovery Speed +50.0% under a status named Cooldown Recovery Down, while the notes underneath describe the same line as reducing recovery speed — a reduction is what the status name and the game's own 50% Cooldown Recovery Reduction cap both point to, and it is the reading used above. And the skill description says Shadow Deception lands on one Cookie of lower rarity, prioritising the lowest, while the notes say it lands on all Cookies of those rarities. The wiki does not reconcile either one.
The HP Shield Capacity -85.0% line is the one to notice if you are looking at him for Kingdom Arena. It does not reduce a shield, it reduces how large the target's shield can be, for twenty-five seconds, on top of a 3.5-second stun.
There is also a conditional worth knowing because it is a hard on-off. If the enemy team fields a Safeguarded Cookie, Shadow Trick is enhanced to 191.0% of ATK per hit and the whole team gains +48.5% DMG dealt to Cookies. The wiki's Safeguarded list has five entries: Dark Cacao Cookie under Spirit of the Abyss, the BTS Cookie type, Snapdragon Cookie, Icicle Yeti Cookie and Marshmallow Bunny Cookie. Only one Safeguarded Cookie can be on a team at a time, so this is a per-matchup switch and never a build assumption.
The rarity clause that can switch him off
Both of his control effects are gated on the target's rarity, and the gate is written into the skill:
- Shadow Deception applies to enemy Cookies of Common, Rare, Special and Epic rarity.
- Shadow Dominion targets one enemy Cookie of Common, Rare, Special, Epic or Super Epic rarity, prioritising the lowest, unless a Shadow Brand is already out — a branded Cookie becomes the next target.
Read the second one carefully. The eligible list stops at Super Epic. Legendary, Ancient, Dragon, Beast and Witch Cookies are not on it. Against a defence built entirely out of Legendary-and-above Cookies, the sheet does not describe an eligible Shadow Dominion target, and it also does not say what happens in that case. That is a genuine hole in the published data, not a claim about his tier, and it is the first thing worth testing yourself in a real match. Cookie rarities are the whole vocabulary here.
The wiki does document one override: if a lower-rarity Cookie Taunts him, the Taunt user takes priority over the existing Shadow Brand target. With two branded targets on the field, he returns to his original one.
Skill Powder moves exactly one number
Put his base column next to his max column and only a single value changes.
| Line | Base skill level | Max skill level |
|---|---|---|
| Shadow Greeting | 804.6% of ATK | 2,011.5% of ATK |
| Shadow Trick, per hit | 84.9% of ATK | 84.9% of ATK |
| Enhanced Shadow Trick, per hit | 191.0% of ATK | 191.0% of ATK |
| Shadow Dominion, per tick | 239.5% of ATK | 239.5% of ATK |
| Every listed buff and debuff value | unchanged | unchanged |
Shadow Greeting is a 2.5x multiple from base to max. Everything else on the sheet is flat. That is unusually concentrated, and it means Skill Powder spent on him buys exactly one burst number — not a broad upgrade, but a large one.
What the sheet does not say
Three blanks, stated plainly rather than filled in:
- His base cooldown. The wiki's skill box lists the Cooldown field as unset. Every cooldown percentage in this guide is a percentage of a number that has not been published yet.
- Whether the Topping Tart and the Equip set bonus count as CRIT "gained from Toppings". The passive's wording is Toppings; a tart is a separate gear class, and a set bonus is not any single Topping's stat. Nothing on the wiki resolves it. It does not change the build — five maxed Toppings supply 45.00% in main stats and can carry the rest on bonus rolls under either reading — but it does mean the tart's contribution to this passive specifically is unconfirmed rather than assumed.
- Whose Max HP. Several of his damage lines add damage "equal to X% of Max HP (Cookies)" without saying whether that is his or the target's. Until that is resolved, do not build Healthy Peanut on him hoping it scales his damage.
Quick Action Checklist
- Level a Squishy Jelly Watch toward Lv.12 for -25.0% cooldown before touching his gear — it is half of his ceiling and it is free.
- Build five Juicy Apple Jelly Toppings, not a mixed set, and take them to +12. The main stat is 3.00% CRIT at Level 0 and 9.00% at +12, and the third bonus-effect slot only opens at +12.
- Craft a Juicy Apple Jelly M Topping Tart (200 Flour Stone, 20 Sugar Ore, 1 Butter Amber). It cuts the CRIT% your bonus-effect rolls have to supply from 17.00% to between 8.40% and 4.00%.
- Prioritise CRIT% bonus effects over Cooldown ones. A 3.00% CRIT roll beats a 2.00% Cooldown roll on him, because it is both.
- Prefer Shadowplay Resonant pieces in Juicy Apple Jelly when you have them — same 3.00% ceiling, a 2.00% floor instead of 1.00%.
- Put a Crispy Beascuit on him, and take a Tainted Darkness one if one ever drops.
- Before you commit him to an Arena defence, check whether the teams you face still field a Super Epic or lower. Two of his three control effects read the enemy's rarity.
