Crimson Desert DLC Blocked in the UAE: What We Know

The DLC just disappeared from some storefronts

Our DLC guide from September 12 covered everything Pearl Abyss had said about Charting the Unknown at the time, including one open question we refused to guess at: "The notice does not name the markets. We are not going to guess at them, and neither should anyone else." Four days later, three separate outlets did the guessing, and their reporting converges on the same answer.

If you tried to pre-order Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown from the UAE this week and found the listing gone, or had an existing pre-order cancelled, you are not imagining it. tbreak, Sportskeeda and GamingBible each reported this week that the DLC has been pulled from storefronts in the United Arab Emirates, with Sportskeeda's headline also naming Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. None of them got a named list from Pearl Abyss. All three are working from the same vague company line plus their own read of what vanished where.

Here is what is actually confirmed, what is solid outside reporting, and what is one outlet's own elimination logic dressed up as a probable cause.

What Pearl Abyss's own notice actually says

Go back to the source and the text has not changed since September 3. The notice, posted at 14:00 UTC that day, carries a section headed "[Update Regarding Market Availability]":

"Following a review of content and age rating requirements, Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown will not be available in certain markets/regions. Pre-orders for these regions will be closed. Depending on the platform, refunds may be processed automatically, or a refund request may need to be submitted through that platform's standard refund process. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding."

That is the entire statement, word for word, as of September 16. No country names, no content description, no rating board named.

The View List link goes nowhere useful

Directly under that paragraph sits a button reading "View List," which looks exactly like the kind of link that would resolve this whole story. It does not. Pulling the notice's raw page source shows the button's actual destination is the general announcement board — ordinary board navigation, not a document, modal or hidden panel naming any country. Whatever Pearl Abyss knows about which markets are affected, it has not put a name to it anywhere on its own site as of this writing.

UAE is the region multiple outlets have landed on

With Pearl Abyss silent on specifics, the reporting has come from watching storefronts rather than reading an official list. tbreak, publishing September 16, says Pearl Abyss "pulled Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown from certain markets, including the UAE," citing affected players' accounts of cancelled pre-orders and PlayStation refund friction. Sportskeeda's September 14 piece — headlined "Why Crimson Desert DLC is unavailable in UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait" — reports that the listing was pulled from Steam, Epic, Xbox and PlayStation storefronts, and makes the same UAE call while building its analysis around the UAE and Saudi Arabia specifically; Kuwait appears in the headline without the same supporting detail in the article body. GamingBible, also September 14, reports the same official quote and the same pre-orders-cancelled framing without adding a new country to the list.

Three outlets, three separate write-ups, one name that all of them land on: the UAE. Treat that one as reported and corroborated across independent sources. Treat Saudi Arabia as reported with real reasoning behind it from at least one outlet. Treat Kuwait as a headline claim that is thinner than the other two until something backs it up directly.

The leading theory: a romance system nobody has confirmed

Here is where the reporting turns into a guess, and it is worth separating cleanly from everything above.

Sportskeeda's own theory works by elimination. The base game is already rated Mature 17+ by the ESRB, with content descriptors for Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence and Strong Language, and that base game remains on sale in the UAE and Saudi Arabia today. So violence is not a new problem for the DLC to trip over — the base game already depicts brutal executions. Gambling is not new either, since Duo, an existing in-game minigame, already puts real stakes on the table. Drug content is not new, since the Bleed Bandit questline already runs a drug-trafficking storyline. Sportskeeda's argument is that the obvious triggers are already present in an unbanned game, which leaves one candidate standing: a romance system the DLC appears to add that the base game does not have.

Why the base game's own rating undercuts the easy answers

The evidence offered for that romance system is a single trailer beat — Kliff presenting a bouquet to Elowen — plus marketing language about deeper relationships. Checking Pearl Abyss's own DLC page directly: it promises the chance to "talk with the people of Pywel to forge deeper bonds." The word "romance" does not appear anywhere on that page. Sportskeeda's read is that a courtship system exists in some form and that the actual rating trigger could be something more explicit than a bouquet scene, drawing a comparison to The Last of Us Part II and Final Fantasy XVI, both of which ran into trouble in Saudi and UAE markets over romantic content that went further than a single cutscene.

None of that is confirmed by Pearl Abyss or by any rating board. It is one outlet's elimination logic, built on real facts — the ESRB descriptors, the base game's continued availability, the bouquet scene — stacked into an inference nobody official has endorsed. Read it as the best theory currently in circulation, not as the answer.

What Pearl Abyss has not confirmed

• Which markets are excluded, beyond what outlets have independently pieced together.
• What specific content triggered the "content and age rating requirements" line.
• Whether a romance or courtship system exists in the DLC at all, in any form beyond marketing copy about "deeper bonds."
• Which rating board made the call, or what rating the DLC actually received where it was rejected.
• Whether the exclusion is permanent, or could lift before or after the October 15 launch.

If your pre-order vanished

Pearl Abyss's own notice describes the refund process in general terms: automatic on some platforms, a standard request on others. That has not gone smoothly for everyone. tbreak reports that Middle Eastern players, via the fan account Greymanes Guild and a UAE-based Reddit user, described PlayStation support declining refund requests and the DLC simply disappearing from the PlayStation Store with no resolution offered. Those are individual accounts relayed by one outlet, not a confirmed platform-wide policy, and tbreak itself is careful to say the reports show "the practical issue for affected players" without proving every request gets rejected. If your pre-order disappeared, check your order status and go through your platform's own refund process rather than assuming either an automatic refund or a denial.

What this changes for everyone else

Nothing. The October 15, 2026 launch date, the $24.99 Steam price and the four confirmed content pillars covered in our September 12 DLC guide are all unaffected outside the excluded markets. This is a regional-availability story, not a delay or a change in scope. If you are patching toward launch, the prep advice in that guide and in the updates and roadmap guide still stands.

• If you are in the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, check whether your Charting the Unknown pre-order is still active rather than assuming either outcome.
• Pearl Abyss's own notice names no countries. Every specific market name in circulation right now, including the UAE, comes from outside reporting, not from Pearl Abyss directly.
