The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Skins: How to Unlock Them
The 2020 release of Part II had no outfits you could wear. Remastered added dozens, split between a points shop and No Return challenges. Here is what each one costs or asks of you, and where the lists disagree.

For more than three years, The Last of Us Part II had no wardrobe. The closest the 2020 PS4 release came was character models you could buy with points and rotate in a viewer — Twinfinite's guide from late June 2020 confirmed you could not wear any of them in-game. Remastered is where outfits arrived: Naughty Dog's announcement promised "bonus skins for Ellie, Abby, and their weapons", and the finished game split them between a points shop and a long list of No Return challenges.
Naughty Dog's own posts name only a handful of these outfits. This guide collects the rest: every Ellie and Abby outfit The Last of Us Wiki lists with its points price, every No Return challenge outfit the wiki documents with the exact task, the weapon skins, and the three crossover outfits that follow their own rules. If you want how No Return itself works — run structure, bosses, which character unlocks which — that lives in the No Return guide, and this piece does not repeat it.
Points or a No Return challenge: the two routes
The cosmetics with a documented route come through four doors:
| Route | What it unlocks | What gates it |
|---|---|---|
| Points (P) | Most Ellie and Abby outfits, plus filters, gameplay modifiers, concept art and character models | Outfits and modifiers open after the story |
| No Return challenges | Six Ellie and Abby outfits, 23 supporting-character outfits, the Moth and Wolf weapon skins, two AI allies | Completing the specific challenge |
| Chronological mode | Joel as Nathan Drake, Tommy as Sam Drake | Finishing the story in Chronological order |
| PSN sign-in on PC | Jordan A. Mun's jacket for Ellie, plus 50 points | Optionally linking a PlayStation Network account |
Points come from playing the campaign. Twinfinite's 2020 rundown lists four sources — story progress, collectibles, trophies, and finishing on higher difficulties — and the wiki names the last three. Neither gives a per-collectible rate, so treat it as "play normally and the balance grows", which is also how Twinfinite's 2024 Guitar Free Play guide describes earning the points its extra instruments cost (our Guitar Free Play guide has that mode). If you are planning a cleanup pass for points, the Part 2 collectibles guide is the list to work from.
The shop opens after the credits. TheGamer describes the optional outfits as something you can equip on Ellie and Abby "once they've beaten the main game in Remastered", and GameRant lists Santa Barbara, Astronaut and Abby's Eighties as unlocked by completing the story. Naughty Dog's 2020 patch post says the same about the gameplay modifiers: accessed from the Extras menu and unlocked after completing the game.
Outfits are not No Return-only. Nixxes' PC Patch 1.4 notes fixed a bug that made Ellie look like she had a knife on her back "during The Chalet when certain skins were equipped" — The Chalet is a campaign chapter — and Destructoid's feature rundown says No Return unlocks are usable "for characters and weapons in the main game". Win a shirt in the roguelike, wear it in Seattle.
Ellie outfits and what they cost

Prices are from The Last of Us Wiki's skin table. Where an outfit is missing from Destructoid's launch-week list it is flagged, because that list is the only full roster of names among this guide's other sources:
| Outfit | How you get it |
|---|---|
| Seattle | 10P |
| Patrol | 10P |
| Aquarium | 10P |
| Santa Barbara | 10P |
| Boston | 10P (not on Destructoid's launch list) |
| B-Day | 10P |
| Pride tank top | 10P |
| Astronaut | 15P |
| Astronaut (no helmet) | 15P |
| Arc the Lad | 5P |
| Death Stranding | 5P |
| Destiny | 5P |
| Fantavision | 5P |
| Killzone | 5P |
| Mortal Kombat | 5P |
| Siren | 5P |
| Hotline Miami | 5P |
| Wipeout Fusion | 5P |
| PlayStation | 5P (not on Destructoid's launch list) |
| Savage Starlight | No Return: collect every gun in one run as Ellie |
| Rain Jacket | No Return: kill 4 enemies with Molotovs in one encounter |
| Plaid | No Return: upgrade all Perseverance skills as Ellie |
| Jordan A. Mun's jacket | Points on PS5 (price not published); PSN sign-in on PC |
Add up the priced rows and Ellie's shop is 19 outfits for 150 points. Ten of those cost 5P — the outfits named after other games, plus one named for PlayStation itself — which makes them the cheapest way to change how she looks; the two Astronaut suits are the most expensive pieces in her list at 15P each.
My call if you are budgeting: buy the chapter outfits (Seattle, Patrol, Aquarium, Santa Barbara) before the 5P crossovers. They cost double, but they are the ones that look like they belong in the scene you are replaying — Ellie in a Wipeout Fusion outfit in the Seraphite woods is a joke that lands once.
Abby outfits and what they cost

Same source, same caveat:
| Outfit | How you get it |
|---|---|
| Seattle | 10P |
| Jackson | 10P |
| Coast | 10P |
| Santa Barbara | 10P |
| Salt Lake City | 10P |
| WLF reversible | 10P (not on Destructoid's launch list) |
| Aquarium | 5P |
| Eighties | 15P |
| Genji | 5P |
| Jak and Daxter | 5P |
| Syphon Filter | 5P |
| The Getaway | 5P |
| The Mark of Kri | 5P |
| Twisted Metal | 5P |
| War of the Monsters | 5P |
| Hotline Miami | 5P |
| PlayStation | 5P (not on Destructoid's launch list) |
| Vintage Naughty Dog | No Return: gain 50 health from melee kills and attacks in one encounter |
| Bomber | No Return: upgrade 3 melee weapons in a run |
| Badlands | No Return: complete an encounter with all melee kills |
That is 17 priced outfits for 125 points, so buying every priced Ellie and Abby outfit the wiki lists costs 275 points combined. Abby's Aquarium outfit is the odd one out at 5P when her other location outfits are 10P; that is what the wiki records.
Hotline Miami and PlayStation are the two crossover outfits both women get. All three of Abby's challenge outfits are melee tasks, which lines up with her No Return kit — Naughty Dog's No Return primer says she comes with a melee upgrade recipe and heals on melee hits.
The 29 No Return challenge outfits

Each No Return character has a challenge track, and Naughty Dog's own description is that completing it unlocks "new playable characters to new skins to gameplay twists like Gambits, Buddies, and more." Below is every outfit reward the wiki documents on those tracks. The first 27 rows appear on both the wiki's No Return page and Press Start's launch-week guide with matching tasks; Bill's and Marlene's rows are wiki-only, because both characters arrived in the April 2025 update:
| Character | Outfit | Challenge |
|---|---|---|
| Ellie | Plaid | Upgrade all Perseverance skills as Ellie |
| Ellie | Rain Jacket | Kill 4 enemies with Molotovs in one encounter |
| Ellie | Savage Starlight | Collect every gun in one run as Ellie |
| Abby | Vintage Naughty Dog | Gain 50 health from melee kills and attacks in one encounter |
| Abby | Bomber | Upgrade 3 melee weapons in a run |
| Abby | Badlands | Complete an encounter with all melee kills |
| Dina | Hangout | Kill 4 enemies with trap mines in one encounter |
| Dina | Casual | Craft 10 times in a run |
| Dina | Patrol | Craft a health kit, Molotov, trap mine and stun bomb in a run |
| Jesse | Festival | Buy 10 items from the Trading Post in one run |
| Jesse | Patrol | Kill 3 enemies with pipe bombs in one encounter |
| Tommy | Patrol | Complete a run with only your initial gun or guns |
| Tommy | Sweatshirt | Complete an encounter where every kill is a headshot |
| Tommy | Winter | Complete an encounter without missing a single shot |
| Joel | Casual | Kill 6 enemies with the same gun without reloading in an encounter |
| Joel | Salt Lake City | Kill 3 enemies with shivs in one encounter |
| Joel | Winter | Hit 5 enemies with a bottle or brick in one run |
| Joel | Boston | Complete a bloater boss encounter as Joel |
| Lev | Santa Barbara | Get 7 kills with explosive arrows in one run |
| Lev | White Shirt | Craft 20 arrows of any type in one run |
| Lev | Abby's Jacket | Complete an encounter with all bow kills |
| Yara | Safehouse | Complete a Seraphite encounter as Yara |
| Yara | Aquarium | Defeat 3 Seraphite brutes |
| Mel | Aquarium | Craft 8 health kits in a run |
| Mel | Seattle | Heal 80 health with one health kit |
| Manny | Winter | Fully upgrade any gun |
| Manny | Firefly | Kill 5 enemies with incendiary shotgun shells in one run |
| Marlene | Salt Lake City | Complete 5 gambits in one run as Marlene |
| Bill | Western | Complete 3 dead drops in one run as Bill |
Beyond characters and outfits, the tracks also unlock two allies: Tommy (kill 5 enemies in one encounter while zoomed in with a scope) and Joel (complete an infected encounter as Joel). Naughty Dog's primer lists Buddies among the challenge rewards, and Holdout is the encounter type built around an AI partner.
Read the wording before you pick a character. Press Start's guide notes that "unless a character is specifically mentioned, these challenges can be completed by any character." So Manny's "fully upgrade any gun" and Dina's "craft 10 times" are not locked to Manny and Dina — they sit on those tracks, but a Tommy run can clear them. The ones that do name a character (Ellie's Plaid and Savage Starlight, Joel's Boston, Yara's Safehouse, Marlene's and Bill's) have to be done as that character.
Three of these are harder than they read:
- Savage Starlight asks for every gun in one run, and weapon drops are randomised per run by design — Naughty Dog's No Return primer says which weapons drop "varies from run to run". Expect to need several attempts, and do not pass up a detour to a weapon.
- Joel's Boston needs a bloater boss. Per the wiki, the boss at the end of a run stays the same until you beat it, starting with the Arcade Bloater, and only randomises once the Rat King is down — the full order is in the No Return guide. If Joel unlocks before you have beaten the Arcade Bloater, take him to it.
- Tommy's Winter fails on a single missed shot. The wiki notes encounters get harder the later they sit in a run, so attempt it early rather than late in a run.
Push Square's review found that once the mode's systems are all unlocked, "only challenges for character skins remain" — which is the honest summary of the back half of No Return. These outfits are the long tail.
Weapon skins: Moth, Wolf and four with no listed route
Destructoid's launch-week list names six weapon skins, three per character:
| Character | Weapon skin | How it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Ellie | Moth | Complete every challenge for the Ellie-aligned characters (the Jackson track) |
| Abby | Wolf | Complete every challenge for the Abby-aligned characters (the Seattle track) |
| Ellie | Astronaut | Not documented by the wiki or Destructoid |
| Ellie | Giraffe | Not documented by the wiki or Destructoid |
| Abby | Zebra | Not documented by the wiki or Destructoid |
| Abby | Eighties | Not documented by the wiki or Destructoid |
The Moth and Wolf routes come from the wiki's No Return challenge list, and they are the longest grind on either list: every challenge on one half of the roster. The PC version shipped with a bug here — Nixxes' Patch 1.2 notes, dated April 17, 2025, addressed "an issue where completing a No Return Challenge would not reward the player with the associated weapon skin."
The other four I am leaving unexplained rather than guessing. Two of them share names with outfits (Astronaut, Eighties), which is suggestive, but neither source ties them together.
Jordan, Drake and the jacket that is missing
Three outfits follow their own rules.
Jordan A. Mun's jacket is a crossover from Naughty Dog's next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet — the red jacket in the image at the top of this page. Naughty Dog's March 20, 2025 post set out two ways to get it. On PC, signing in with a PlayStation Network account — optional, not required — grants the skin plus 50 in-game points. On PS5 it arrived with the free 2.0.0 patch and is "unlockable via in-game bonus points". The post does not give a price, and the wiki's skin table does not list the jacket at all. Fifty points, for scale, buys ten of the 5P crossover outfits.
Joel as Nathan Drake and Tommy as Sam Drake are the reward for finishing the story in Chronological mode. Naughty Dog's July 2025 announcement ties them to the studio's 40th anniversary and says they "will be usable in No Return". Our Chronological mode guide covers the playthrough that earns them.
And the one that is not there: Joel's jacket, which Ellie wears on screen in the story, is not among the outfits the wiki lists. In April 2025 TheGamer reported a PC mod by Nexus creator Gaunt75 that adds it by replacing the Santa Barbara outfit. That is a PC mod, not an unlock.
What else the points buy

Outfits share the points pool with everything else in Extras, so it is worth knowing the competition. The 14 gameplay modifiers are the list Naughty Dog published with the August 2020 Grounded update; the prices and effects are the wiki's:
| Modifier | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Mirror World | 15P | Flips the world horizontally |
| Mirror on Death | 15P | Flips the world every time you die |
| Slow Motion | 20P | Game speed at 50% |
| Bullet Speed Mode | 20P | Game speed at 25% while aiming |
| Infinite Ammo | 20P | Unlimited ammo |
| Infinite Crafting | 20P | Unlimited crafting ingredients |
| Infinite Melee Durability | 20P | Melee weapons never break |
| Infinite Listen Mode Range | 20P | No range limit on listen mode |
| One Shot | 20P | Every gun kills in one shot |
| Touch of Death | 20P | Every melee attack kills in one hit |
| 8-bit Audio | 5P | 8-bit distortion filter on the audio |
| 4-bit Audio | 5P | 4-bit distortion filter on the audio |
| Helium Audio | 5P | Pitches the audio up |
| Xenon Audio | 5P | Pitches the audio down |
That is 210 points for the full set. Render modes — the wiki calls them filters — are 5P each: the wiki counts 29 from the 2020 update plus a thirtieth, Dither Punk, exclusive to Remastered, so all 30 cost 150 points. Concept art and character models are bought from the same pool; the wiki does not price them.
Two rules from Naughty Dog's footnotes: some options and gameplay modifiers are disabled on Grounded, and some are disabled in Permadeath. The Part 2 difficulty guide covers how that plays out for a Grounded run.
My order of spending: outfits you will actually replay in first, then One Shot or Infinite Ammo if you want a victory-lap run, then filters for Photo Mode. The audio modifiers are a 5P novelty.
Where the lists disagree
Being straight about the sources, because none of them is complete:
- The wiki contradicts its own count. Its summary says Remastered has 72 character skins — 23 for Ellie, 20 for Abby and 29 for the other No Return characters. Its Ellie table lists 22, and Jordan's jacket is not among them.
- The launch list is shorter than the wiki's. Destructoid's January 16, 2024 list has 20 Ellie outfits and 18 for Abby. The wiki adds Boston and PlayStation for Ellie, and WLF reversible and PlayStation for Abby. Neither source says when those four appeared.
- One outfit has two names. Abby's melee-heal reward is Vintage Naughty Dog on the wiki's No Return page, in Press Start's guide and on Destructoid's list, but plain Naughty Dog on the wiki's skin page. Same outfit.
- Every price here rests on one source. The points costs above come from the wiki's tables alone — none of the other sources this guide cites publishes them. The totals (150, 125, 210 and 150 points) are my sums of those tables, not figures anyone official has stated.
If an outfit in your game is priced differently from this list, trust the game.
Quick Action Checklist
- Finish the story first — the points shop for outfits opens after the credits.
- Earn points by playing: story progress, collectibles, trophies and higher-difficulty clears all feed the same pool.
- On PC, link a PSN account once for Jordan A. Mun's jacket and 50 free points.
- Budget 150P for Ellie's 19 priced outfits and 125P for Abby's 17; the 5P crossover outfits are the cheapest swaps.
- Get the six Ellie and Abby challenge outfits and 23 supporting-character outfits in No Return — and check whether a challenge names a character before you pick one.
- Take Joel to a bloater boss for Boston, and plan several runs for Savage Starlight.
- Moth (Ellie) and Wolf (Abby) weapon skins need every challenge on that side of the roster.
- Finish a Chronological playthrough for the Nathan and Sam Drake outfits.
- Ellie and Abby outfits won in No Return are wearable in the campaign too.
