The Last of Us Part 2 Collectibles: All 286 by Type

Part II counts 286 collectibles, but only 215 of them are what the wiki files as collectibles. The rest are journal entries, workbenches, safes and guns. Here is the full split by type, which of the two protagonists can physically pick up each one, and the twelve trophies that hang off finding them.

Part II's completion tally comes to 286, and if you go looking for a list of 286 items you will not find one on the wiki. The four things the wiki files as "collectibles" in Part II — artifacts, training manuals, trading cards and coins — add up to 215. The other 71 are journal entries, workbenches, safes and firearms: tracked in the same completion screen, catalogued nowhere near each other.

That gap is worth understanding before you start hunting, because two of the categories are locked to a single protagonist. Coins are Abby's and trading cards are Ellie's, so 80 of the 286 are out of reach whenever you are playing the other one.

Everything below covers The Last of Us Part II (PS4, 2020), Part II Remastered on PS5 and the PC release. The wiki's trophy list records that Remastered left the original game's 28 trophies untouched and stacked its own on top — sixteen of them inside No Return, plus one gold for replaying the story in chronological order. None of them adds a collectible, so the story-mode hunt is the same job in all three.

What the 286 actually counts

Eight separate things feed the number. Counts below are from the Fandom wiki's category listings, cross-checked against PowerPyx's collectibles guide, which is where the 286 figure comes from:

Total286

The first game splits differently and shares almost no vocabulary with this list. Part I has Firefly pendants and Savage Starlight comics and no cards or coins at all; our Part I collectibles guide covers that set.

One number in the table is softer than the rest. The wiki maintains category pages for artifacts, cards, coins and manuals, and their sizes match the table exactly — 127, 48, 32 and 8. Workbenches have no such page, and the 25 comes from PowerPyx. Part II gives you a trophy for finding 12 workbenches (In the Field) and another for finding all of them (Prepared for the Worst), and our weapon upgrades guide already flags that guides disagree on the exact total — so count from the trophy rather than from any tally you read, including this one.

Artifacts and journal entries are two different things

A page from Ellie's journal in The Last of Us Part II showing a hand-drawn portrait.

Archivist reads, in full: "Find all artifacts and journal entries." That is two separate sets behind one gold trophy, 147 items between them, and a complete artifact count on its own will not pop it.

The 127 artifacts are the notes, letters, maps and objects you pick up and read. The 20 journal entries are something else entirely — they are pages Ellie fills in herself as the game goes. Some populate automatically as the story advances; others only appear if you interact with a specific spot or artifact. Ellie's journal is itself the first artifact in the game, sitting on the desk in her house in Jackson, and it is picked up automatically when she leaves on patrol.

The journal entries break down by chapter as follows, per the wiki's page for Ellie's journal:

ChapterJournal entries
Jackson4
Seattle Day 1 (Ellie)6
Seattle Day 2 (Ellie)5
Seattle Day 3 (Ellie)3
Santa Barbara2
Total20

Every chapter on that list is an Ellie chapter. Abby's days contribute artifacts and nothing to the journal.

Trading cards: 48, and only Ellie can hold one

The front face of the Tesseracter trading card from The Last of Us Part II.

The cards belong to a fictional card game called Society of Champions, and the wiki is explicit that they are collected by Ellie alone. Cards have a front face and a back carrying a stat block — Brains, Brawn, Affiliation — and a paragraph of character fiction. They are numbered 1 to 48 in the order the game presents them, starting with Seismicayla in Jackson and finishing with Sparkthug in Santa Barbara.

The 48 characters split across five affiliations:

AffiliationCards
None20
Society of Champions13
The New Dogs7
SPARK6
Future Alliance2
Total48

Two things in that set are worth knowing. The Society of Champions franchise is the same fictional universe as the Savage Starlight comics from the first game — one of the 48 cards is Dr. Daniela Star, the comic's protagonist. And six of the card characters are inspired by members of the development team, per artist Paul Reinwand, who drew all 48 with art directors Alex Neonakis and Ashley Swidowski: The Imp, Doctor Uckmann, Wachumero, Das Wort, Randy Styles and The Nighthawk.

Starter Set, the bronze trophy for five cards, is cheap but it does not pop in Jackson. Cards 1 through 4 — Seismicayla, The Keene Twins, Tesseracter and Laurent Foucault, CEO SPARK — are all in the Jackson chapter, two in the Waking Up section and two during the Patrol ride with Dina. Card 5, Motivator, is the fifth and it sits in Ellie's Seattle Day 1, in the map pocket of the bus stop in the woods, so the trophy lands early on the road into Seattle rather than before you leave home.

Coins: 32 state quarters, all Abby's

The Virginia state quarter collectible coin from The Last of Us Part II.

Coins are Abby's mirror of Ellie's cards: 32 US 50 State quarters, each state appearing exactly once, and the wiki states they are collected only by Abby. The very first one is not in Seattle at all — it is the Virginia quarter, picked up during "The Park" flashback with Jerry.

That Virginia coin carries the game's only spoken reference to a mint year. Both Abby and Jerry react to it with a line about 1978, which is not a real 50 State quarters year; the program ran 1999 to 2008, and the wiki notes this is the only coin whose date is mentioned in dialogue at all.

Here is the full set in pickup order. The wiki names a chapter for 23 of the 32 and a section for 22 of them; the remaining nine pages are empty stubs, so the tail end of this list is an order without addresses:

Read the documented rows and the shape of the hunt is obvious: sixteen of the first seventeen coins are on Abby's first day in Seattle, and the Stadium alone holds four. Mint Condition, the bronze for five coins, is effectively free — Virginia in the flashback plus the four Stadium quarters.

The Washington coin is the one the wiki documents out of sequence, at #25 with the two before it blank. It is in the Lakehill hospital basement, on the counter beside the cash register in the food court, after Nora frees Abby.

Four of the eight tracked categories are things you interact with rather than pocket, and each already has its own answer on this site:

  • 25 workbenches. Where you spend parts. All the costs and the two workbench trophies are in the Part 2 weapon upgrades guide.
  • 14 safes. Nine on Ellie's side, five on Abby's, each opened by dialling a combination you find written up somewhere nearby. Every code is in the Part 2 safe codes guide.
  • 12 firearms. Ten of them accept workbench upgrades and two never do.
  • 8 training manuals. Four for Ellie, four for Abby, each unlocking one locked skill branch. Locations and branch costs are in the Part 2 skills guide.

Manuals are worth prioritising over the rest of that group. Each one opens a locked skill branch, per the wiki's training manual page, so a manual found early pays out for the whole rest of the run.

Two bronze trophies that are single objects

The Strange relic artifact in The Last of Us Part II, a glowing Precursor Orb from Jak and Daxter.

Two of the 127 artifacts carry a bronze trophy each, and both are Naughty Dog easter eggs.

Relic of the Sages comes from the Strange relic, an artifact in Abby's Seattle Day 1. It is a Precursor Orb from Jak and Daxter, and picking it up is the whole requirement.

The antique ring artifact from The Last of Us Part II, inscribed Sic Parvis Magna.

So Great and Small comes from the antique ring, found in Ellie's Seattle Day 1 in the Downtown section — inside the Westlake Bank vault, in a safety deposit box in the back right corner. The inscription reads Sic Parvis Magna, which is Nathan Drake's ring from Uncharted, and which is also where the trophy name comes from. Getting into that vault means dealing with the bank safe first, so the ring is gated behind a code rather than a search.

Neither adds to the 286. Both are already inside the 127.

Every find-it trophy in Part II

Twelve of Part II's 28 base-game trophies are awarded for finding things rather than doing them. Grades are from the wiki's Part II trophy list:

Starter SetFind 5 trading cardsBronze

Four golds out of the game's seven come from this table, which is a fair signal of how the platinum is weighted. The other collection-adjacent trophy, Sightseer, is a silver for visiting every location in downtown Seattle — a place, not an object, and the same open area that holds the bank vault and the courthouse.

Nothing here is missable

PowerPyx's Part II trophy guide puts the number of missable trophies at zero, and the mechanism is worth knowing because it changes how you should play the first time.

Collectible progress is written to your profile save, which the game keeps separate from autosaves and manual saves. That means it counts across every playthrough and every difficulty, and it survives switching between a normal run and New Game Plus. The chapter select screen carries its own collectible tracker, so after the credits you can drop into any chapter, grab what you missed, and quit out. Per PowerPyx, the items do not need to be on the same save or in your backpack simultaneously — they only need to register as found in chapter select.

The practical consequence: play your first run without a checklist. The hunt is a second-pass job, and running it on a cleared save also lets you do it on a low difficulty rather than fighting your way to a card on Grounded.

Quick Action Checklist

  • Treat 286 as eight lists, not one: 127 artifacts, 20 journal entries, 48 cards, 32 coins, 25 workbenches, 14 safes, 12 weapons, 8 manuals.
  • Archivist needs both halves — 127 artifacts and 20 journal entries, 147 items total.
  • Cards are Ellie-only, coins are Abby-only. Do not hunt for the wrong one in the wrong chapter.
  • Starter Set needs five cards and Jackson only holds four — card 5, Motivator, is at the bus stop early in Ellie's Seattle Day 1.
  • Pop Mint Condition on Abby's first day: Virginia in The Park, then four quarters in The Stadium.
  • Grab the antique ring in the Westlake Bank vault on Ellie's Seattle Day 1 — you need the safe open to reach it.
  • Count workbenches against the In the Field and Prepared for the Worst trophies rather than a written total.
  • Do not chase collectibles on your first run. Chapter select plus the profile save makes cleanup a second-pass job on any difficulty.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many collectibles are in The Last of Us Part 2?
The Last of Us Part 2 tracks 286 collectibles across eight categories: 127 artifacts, 20 journal entries, 48 trading cards, 32 coins, 25 workbenches, 14 safes, 12 weapons and 8 training manuals. Only the artifacts, cards, coins and manuals are filed as collectible categories on the wiki, which is why a category count comes to 215 rather than 286.
Are collectibles missable in The Last of Us Part 2?
No. PowerPyx's trophy guide for The Last of Us Part 2 lists zero missable trophies. Collectible progress is stored on the profile save, separate from autosaves and manual saves, so it counts across every playthrough and difficulty, and chapter select has its own collectible tracker for cleaning up after the credits.
Can Abby collect trading cards in The Last of Us Part 2?
No. In The Last of Us Part 2 the 48 trading cards are collected by Ellie only, and the 32 coins are collected by Abby only. Artifacts, workbenches, safes, weapons and training manuals appear in both characters' chapters.
What does the Archivist trophy need in The Last of Us Part 2?
Archivist is a gold trophy in The Last of Us Part 2 awarded for finding all artifacts and journal entries — 127 artifacts plus 20 entries in Ellie's journal, 147 items in total. The journal entries are a separate set from the artifacts and appear only in Ellie's chapters: four in Jackson, six on Seattle Day 1, five on Day 2, three on Day 3 and two in Santa Barbara.
Where is the Engraved Ring in The Last of Us Part 2?
The Engraved Ring behind the So Great and Small trophy in The Last of Us Part 2 is the antique ring, found during Ellie's Seattle Day 1 in the Downtown section. It is inside the Westlake Bank vault, in a safety deposit box in the back right corner, and the inscription reads Sic Parvis Magna — Nathan Drake's ring from Uncharted.
Does The Last of Us Part II Remastered add new collectibles?
No. The Last of Us Part II Remastered leaves the 2020 game's 28 trophies untouched, per the wiki's trophy list, and adds its own on top — sixteen in the No Return roguelike mode and one gold for replaying the story in chronological order. None of them adds a collectible, so the story-mode hunt is the same 286 items on PS4, on Part II Remastered for PS5 and on the PC release.
