Crimson Desert 2.0 Reset Your Skills: Abyss Link Explained
The Enhanced update shipped on August 25 and the first thing it did was empty your skill tree. That is not a bug — Pearl Abyss rebuilt the skill economy around a new resource called Abyss Link, refunded everything you had spent, and made resets per-character. Here is the new arithmetic, and the eight skills Kliff can now buy.

Your skill tree is empty, and that is intentional
If you launched Crimson Desert any time after August 25 and found your skill tree stripped back to nothing, you did not lose a save. You got patched.
Version 2.00.00 — the update that renames the base game Crimson Desert Enhanced — rebuilt the skill-learning system, and a rebuild of that kind cannot leave old progression in place. Pearl Abyss's patch notes say it plainly:
"With the addition of Abyss Link, all existing skill progression will be reset the first time the game is launched after the update. Any resources previously used to learn skills, including Abyss Artifacts, will be refunded."
So the wipe is total, the refund is total, and the thing you are re-spending into is not the system you left. That is the part worth twenty minutes before you start clicking nodes.
What Abyss Link actually is
Before 2.00.00, Abyss Artifacts were the pinch point of the whole game. One currency paid for skills in the Skills menu and for equipment refinement at a blacksmith — the artifact's own tooltip says so — and Crimson Desert has three playable characters, each with a tree wanting to be fed.
Abyss Link is a second skill-learning resource that sits underneath the first. You still spend Abyss Artifacts. What changed is what happens to everyone else when you do.
The rule, in Pearl Abyss's own words
The patch notes give the mechanic in three bullets:
- "Added 'Abyss Link' as a new skill-learning resource."
- "When a character uses Abyss Artifacts to learn a skill, an equivalent number of Abyss Links will be granted to the other playable characters."
- "Each character can use their own Abyss Links to learn skills."
Read that middle line carefully, because it is the whole update. Spending is no longer zero-sum across the cast. Every artifact you sink into Kliff's tree mints an equivalent Abyss Link for Damiane and for Oongka, which they can then spend on their own skills.

Why that is a discount on two thirds of the cast
VULKK's breakdown of the update puts a number on it: the change "reduces the number of Abyss Artifacts you need to spend in the Skill Tree by two thirds." That is their arithmetic, not Pearl Abyss's, and it follows from the mirroring rule — one artifact spent, three characters progressed.
Whether you feel that as a discount or as permission to spend depends on what you were doing before. If you had been mainlining Kliff and leaving the other two on their starting kits, nothing about your artifact budget changes; you simply now have two stocked trees you did not pay for. If you had been splitting artifacts three ways to keep everyone usable, the split is over.
The other half of the artifact economy is untouched. Refinement still charges one Abyss Artifact at every level from +5 through +10 — six levels, so six artifacts per armour piece and thirty for a full five-slot loadout — the numbers in the armor guide still hold. What 2.00.00 changed is the skills side of that fork, not the gear side. The old advice to weigh a skill node against a refinement step is still the right instinct; the exchange rate on the skill side just got better.

The eight new Kliff skills and what they cost
Pearl Abyss confirms the count and the gate — "Added 8 new skills for Kliff," which "become available after reaching a certain point in the main story" — but the official notes do not name them. VULKK's skill breakdown does, with parent nodes, levels and costs:
| Skill | Upgrades | Parent level | Resource | What it does | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flowing Force Palm | Force Palm | 4 | Spirit | Raises the damage of Force Palm's first and second hits and adds an extra attack | 1 Abyss Artifact |
| Ascending Force Palm | Force Palm | 5 | Spirit | Raises jump height and enhances Aerial Force Palm | 1 Abyss Artifact |
| Enraged Parry | Keen Senses | 4 | Spirit | Parry an incoming attack without interrupting whatever you are already doing | 2 Abyss Artifacts |
| Water Slide | Double Jump | 2 | Spirit (disputed — see below) | Hold sprint on water to skim across the surface | 1 Abyss Artifact |
| Descending Force Palm | Diving Force Palm | 2 | Spirit | Chain Diving Force Palm straight out of Aerial Force Palm | 1 Abyss Artifact |
| Serenity | Focus | 4 | Spirit | Restores more Spirit while Focus is held | 1 Abyss Artifact |
| Enhanced Flight | Flight | 3 | Health | Dive during flight without taking fall damage | 1 Abyss Artifact |
| Finishing Rush | Armed Combat | 6 | Spirit | A Light Attack after an attack carries Kliff to the next enemy and continues the combo | 1 Abyss Artifact |
Adding up the eight rows in that table: they cost 9 Abyss Artifacts together, because Enraged Parry is the one row priced at two and the other seven are priced at one. That total is the sum of the rows printed above it, and nothing else.
The resource column is less settled than the rest of the table, and it is worth saying so rather than tidying it away. VULKK's per-skill headings tag seven of the eight as Spirit and Enhanced Flight as Health — but the summary line on that same page reads "6 of the new skills are in the Spirit Skill Tree, and we have one in each of the Health and Stamina trees," which does not match its own headings. Driffle's write-up of the same eight skills describes Water Slide spending stamina while Kliff runs across the water. Those three statements cannot all be true. Pearl Abyss does not publish resource types for the new skills at all, so read the column as one outlet's tagging, treat Water Slide's pool as unconfirmed, and check the node in your own Skills menu before you build around the combat guide's point about draining one pool dry.
Two of these land on nodes the existing guides already tell you to prioritise. Enraged Parry hangs off Keen Senses, the same defensive trunk that gates Counter at Level 3, so a Keen Senses investment now buys two things instead of one. Finishing Rush sits at Armed Combat Level 6, one rung past Quick Swap at Level 5.
There is also a free skill in this patch that is not part of the eight: "Bilwise will now reward you with 'Double Jump' during the quest 'Unexpected Gift.'" If Double Jump was a purchase on your last run, it is a quest reward on this one — and Water Slide is built on top of it.

Resets are per character now
The second structural change is quieter and easier to miss. From the notes: skill progression "can now be reset individually for each character instead of being reset for all characters at once," and "when skill progression is reset, the Abyss Links used by the individual character are refunded."
Before this, respeccing was all-or-nothing across the roster. Deciding Oongka's build was wrong meant tearing down Kliff and Damiane with him. That is gone. You can now rebuild one character and leave the other two standing.
You can carry currency into a second run
Buried in the same block is a New Game feature: "Added a feature that allows you to carry over Abyss Links and other in-game currency from an existing save file when starting a new game," available "after completing all main quests."
Pearl Abyss does not call this New Game+ and does not enumerate what "other in-game currency" covers. What it does confirm is the gate — finish the main story first — and that Abyss Links specifically travel. If you were holding off on a second run because Chapter 1 with a stripped skill tree sounded miserable, that is the change that addresses it.
Where the Enhanced update sits in the patch history
The updates and roadmap guide tracks the full chronology; here is the tail end of it, with dates read off Pearl Abyss's announcement board:
| Version | Date (UTC) | What it was |
|---|---|---|
| 1.18.00 | Aug 15, 2026 | Knowledge and research rework, lock-on camera options |
| 1.18.01 | Aug 16, 2026 | All-platforms hotfix |
| 1.18.02 | Aug 16, 2026 | All-platforms hotfix |
| 2.00.00 | Aug 25, 2026 | Crimson Desert Enhanced: story additions, six new languages, Abyss Link, eight Kliff skills |
| 2.00.01 | Aug 28, 2026 | Hotfix: Arabic text display, cutscene lip-sync, a frame-rate drop, macOS launch failure on Steam |
Three more things from 2.00.00 that are mechanical rather than cosmetic, and are not in any guide written before August 25:
- The Golden Star fight was restructured. Pearl Abyss "separated the battle against Golden Star into distinct phases and added phase-specific attack patterns." Walkthroughs written before August 25 describe the pre-patch version of that fight.
- Flying mounts got a control option. Others > Input now offers "Camera" (the mount follows where the camera points) or "Manual" (ascend and descend on separate inputs). The mounts guide predates it.
- Escorts take less damage. "Reduced the damage received by characters accompanying the player."
On the housekeeping side: the Enhanced update is free to everyone who already owns the game on any platform, it rolled out on Steam for PC and Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and Epic on August 25 with the Mac App Store build following later, and Pearl Abyss ran the game's first-ever sale alongside it at 20% off across all platforms, ending September 9 or 10 depending on platform and region.
What I could not verify
- How you obtain Abyss Links beyond the mirroring rule. The patch notes describe exactly one source: another character spending Abyss Artifacts. Whether Links drop, are quest rewards, or have a cap is not stated.
- What a per-character reset costs. Game8's respec page documents one Faded Abyss Artifact for the "Reset All" button, but that page is dated March 21, 2026 and does not mention 2.00.00, Abyss Link or per-character resets. Pearl Abyss's 2.00.00 notes state what a reset refunds, not what it charges. Treat the price as unconfirmed until someone re-documents it against the live build.
- Which resource pool three or four of the new skills draw on. Pearl Abyss does not publish resource types for them. VULKK's per-skill headings say seven Spirit and one Health; its own summary line says six Spirit, one Health and one Stamina; Driffle has Water Slide spending stamina. I have printed VULKK's per-skill tagging because it is the itemised version, and flagged Water Slide rather than picking a winner.
- The names of two of the eight. VULKK lists "Enhance Flight" where Driffle has "Enhanced Flight" — I have used the latter. VULKK's "Water Slide" is "Water Stride" in Driffle's listing; I have used VULKK's, because it is the source the rest of this table comes from, but expect to see both.
- Where in the main story the eight skills unlock. Pearl Abyss says "after reaching a certain point" and does not name a chapter.
- The full contents of the carry-over feature. "Other in-game currency" is not enumerated anywhere I could find.
Quick Action Checklist
- Do not panic at the empty tree. The wipe is a one-time, intentional consequence of 2.00.00, and everything you spent has been refunded.
- Count your refund before you spend it. You are re-spending under different rules than you earned it under.
- Spend on one character deliberately. Every Abyss Artifact you put into a skill mints an equivalent Abyss Link for the other two.
- Check Damiane and Oongka's trees after a Kliff spending session — their Links are sitting there whether you look or not.
- Budget 9 Abyss Artifacts if you want all eight new Kliff skills; Enraged Parry is the two-artifact one.
- Push Keen Senses. Counter at Level 3 and Enraged Parry at Level 4 now sit on the same trunk.
- Take Double Jump from Bilwise during "Unexpected Gift" rather than buying it, and note that Water Slide builds on it.
- Re-read any Golden Star walkthrough with suspicion. The fight has phases it did not have before August 25.
- Set Flying Mount Controls under Others > Input to Camera or Manual before your next long flight.
- Finish the main story before starting over if you want to carry Abyss Links into a new game.
