Crimson Desert Contribution Guide: All 5 Regional Shops

Three sibling posts on this site name-drop "Contribution" in passing. None of them explain what it is, how to earn it, or why one of its five shops does not open until the literal last chapter of the game.

The cliffside city of Demeniss in Crimson Desert, home to a Contribution shop that stays hostile territory until the game's final chapter.

Three posts mention it. None of them explain it

Our armor guide gates a Tier 5 chest piece behind "Delesyia Contribution Office - Fennheim." Our Golden Star boss guide lists "500 Delesyian Contribution EXP" in its drop table. Our mounts guide sends you to "special contribution vendors" for horse barding and never says what those vendors actually are. Three separate posts, three separate name-drops, and — until now — nothing on this site explains what Contribution is, how you earn it, or what its shops actually sell.

That gap is worth closing, because Contribution turns out to be one of Crimson Desert's more developed side-economies: five separate regional currencies, at least nine physical shop locations, and one shop the main story locks behind literally the last chapter of the game. It also has a habit of reusing names — Signet, Crown, Visione — that this site's own posts already use for unrelated things, which may be exactly why nobody has written the system up cleanly before now.

What Contribution actually is

Strip away the marketing language and Contribution is a regional favor meter. Per Game8's reputation guide and a Yahoo write-up covering the same system, every region of Pywel tracks its own Contribution bar, separately from the others. Fill a region's bar and you level it up; each level opens more of that region's shop inventory. KeenGamer's factions guide puts a number on the bar itself: 100 points per Contribution level, in that region.

Worth separating this from a different thing entirely. KeenGamer's same article also describes a broader, five-tier standing scale — War, Hostile, Neutral, Friendly, Alliance — attached to roughly a hundred individual named factions across Pywel, including story factions like House Celeste and the Goldleaf Merchants Guild covered in our trading guide. That is general faction standing, and it is not the same system as regional Contribution. This guide is scoped to the one with shops, prices and a spendable currency — Contribution — not the broader war-to-alliance dial.

One thing no source spells out cleanly: whether the "Contribution EXP" our Golden Star guide reports as a boss reward converts 1:1 into the "points" priced at each shop, or whether EXP and points are the same number under two names. Every source describes the shape the same way — fill the bar, level up, spend the level-up on gear — but none states the exchange rate in so many words. Treat the two terms as pointing at the same underlying currency rather than assume a fixed conversion.

How you actually earn it

Two independent guides — Game8 and Yahoo — describe the same short list of methods, in roughly the same order of value:

MethodWhat it does
Faction questsThe fastest route, per Game8: "the best way to farm Contribution Points"
BountiesNamed alongside faction quests as a high-yield source
Liberating strongholdsKeenGamer calls this the single largest gain from one action
Giving coins to beggarsFound in cities like Hernand and settlements like Scrapfold; Yahoo puts it at +1 point per copper given, once per beggar per day
Helping citizensRandom open-world events — defending someone from bandits — that pay out without ever appearing in your quest log

Game8 adds a detail worth knowing before you grind: if your Contribution level ever drops and you climb back to where you were, that climb pays nothing. Only points earned past your previous high-water mark count. Digging out of a hole you dug yourself is free; there is no reward for it.

The two ways to lose it

Crime taxes the same bar. KeenGamer's figures: theft costs 5 points per stolen item, and assault or murder of an NPC costs 30 points. Yahoo independently confirms the theft penalty at the same rate; the 30-point figure for violence is KeenGamer's alone among the guides checked for this piece, so treat that specific number as reported by one source rather than cross-verified. Either way, the region you are actively trying to level up is a bad place to go on a crime spree.

Five regions, nine shops

PowerPyx's location guide is the most complete map of the physical shops, and it lines up with independent counts from Yahoo and mapmaster.io. All three agree the game runs five separate Contribution currencies across nine vendor locations, and — per PowerPyx — every item in every one of these shops costs only Contribution points. No silver changes hands.

Hernand and Scholastone share a wallet

Per PowerPyx, getting into the Hernand Castle shop means "wear[ing] the Hernandian Attire to be let through the gate," then finding the guard tower in the inner courtyard. Mapmaster.io independently adds a second route into the same building: a vine-covered cellar entrance, which nobody else covering this system mentions — take it as a single-sourced shortcut rather than a confirmed second door. The Scholastone Institute shop, reached through the main entrance on the north side, draws on the exact same Hernandian point pool, so there is no reason to hoard points for one location over the other.

Pailune waits for Chapter 7

All three location sources agree on this one without qualification: the Pailune Town shop does not open until you have cleared Chapter 7. Our chapters guide already flags Chapter 7, Homecoming, as the single longest chapter in the game — eleven main quests, more than the entire Prologue-through-Chapter-5 stretch combined — so this is not a short wait relative to the rest of the campaign.

Demeniss hides its best shop behind the credits

This is the detail worth the price of admission. PowerPyx and mapmaster.io independently agree that Demeniss Castle's main Contribution shop sits behind hostile territory that does not calm down until Chapter 12 — the final numbered chapter in the game, per our own chapter breakdown. PowerPyx's access note: through the front gate, right path, up the wooden stairs, then any key on a locked door. Until then, the castle is not somewhere you casually browse a shop.

The other two Demeniss vendors are not gated the same way. PowerPyx names a horse-armor specialist — "Cobrin's Shop" — in an upstairs house in the city, selling horse armor exclusively. That is a genuinely useful cross-reference: our mounts guide already tells you barding is sold "at special contribution vendors" without naming one. Cobrin's is that vendor. The third Demeniss shop sits inside the Cathedral, reached by talking to the priest there.

Delesyia wants a Visione, not silver

One shop, one gate, two steps. PowerPyx's phrasing: wear a Visione Helmet to get past the castle gate, then use any key on a locked door at the northern edge of the grounds. This connects to something already on this site — our updates and roadmap guide notes that patch 1.12.00 let Damiane and Oongka "equip Visiones, read memories, and mount Blackstar," establishing Visiones as a real equipment category rather than a one-off prop. The armor guide's own database citation names a vendor here too — "Fennheim" — selling the Tier 5 Armor of Loyal Friendship, whose in-game description reads: "Only those who have contributed to Delesyia are permitted to possess it."

Tashkalp is two towns, one purse — and a name collision

Tommaso and Varnia draw on the same Tashkalp pool, per all three location sources — level one and both shops open together. PowerPyx places Tommaso's shop in a house in the southern town and Varnia's in a house in the north.

Here is the collision worth flagging before it confuses anyone who has read our other posts: our weapons guide already sends you to "the equipment shop in Tashkalp" to buy the Trumpet Shotgun for ordinary silver. That is a different vendor from the Contribution shop covered here, which per PowerPyx sells only for points. Same region, two separate stores, two separate currencies — do not walk into Tommaso expecting one storefront to take both.

What's actually worth buying

Costs come from mapmaster.io's item-by-item list and KeenGamer's region table, and the two agree closely enough on the top end to trust the numbers:

ItemRegionCost
Bolton Plate ArmorHernandian7 points
Bolton Plate CloakHernandian6 points
Hernandian BardingHernandian23 points
Hernandian Contribution BannerHernandian30 points
Hernandian SignetHernandian65 points
Hernandian CrownHernandian70 points

Game8 separately calls out Bolton Plate gear as "a noticeable upgrade over normal equipment" without pricing it — mapmaster's 6-7 point cost is what makes that upgrade cheap enough to grab in your first hour of dealing with any faction. Signets and Crowns run 65 and 70 points at four of the five regional shops — Hernandian, Demenissian, Delesyian and Tashkalp — per KeenGamer's table, and they read as prestige cosmetics rather than combat gear — a late-game flex once a region's cheap tier is cleared out; KeenGamer's own table does not list an equivalent for Pailune, whose most expensive listed item is its 30-point Contribution Banner. KeenGamer also names higher-tier armor sets specific to two regions: a Pailunese set at 15-23 points, and Dragon Flame and Sahazhad sets at Tashkalp running 17-23 points. Mapmaster.io adds one mechanical note worth knowing before you spend: Contribution Banners are listed as usable as two-handed weapons, not just wall decoration.

One practical tie-in: Golden Star, covered in our boss guide, drops 500 Delesyian Contribution EXP on its own. Set against a 100-point-per-level bar, that single fight is worth several levels of Delesyian standing before you have spent a single beggar's copper.

Greymane warriors in mismatched leather, fur and plate armor, the kind of loadout Contribution shop gear supplements early

Where the sources disagree

Two things worth flagging rather than quietly resolving:

Nine shops or ten. PowerPyx and Yahoo both describe nine physical Contribution vendor locations across the five regions, matching the table above. Mapmaster.io counts a tenth: "Carl at provisions camp" in Hernand. That is very likely a mislabeling. Carl, the Camp Provisioner, already has a well-documented job on this site — our camp guide names him as a core, non-dispatchable Greymane Camp member, and our trading guide covers his Camp Provisions menu in detail. That same menu's Donate Funds option feeds camp funds — the Greymanes' communal wallet, distinct from Contribution — which (per our knowledge and research guide) now also pays for research since patch 1.18.00. Nothing about that system involves regional Contribution points, and no other Contribution source lists a camp-based shop. Treat the tenth shop as unconfirmed.

The 30-point violence penalty. As noted above, only KeenGamer states a specific cost for assaulting or killing an NPC. Game8 and Yahoo describe the theft penalty in matching detail but do not put a number on violence at all. Take the theft figure as solid and the violence figure as reported by one outlet.

Quick Action Checklist

  • Treat Contribution as five separate regional bars, not one score — Hernandian, Pailunese, Demenissian, Delesyian and Tashkalp all track independently.
  • Farm faction quests and bounties first; they are the fastest route per Game8, ahead of beggar alms and citizen-defense events.
  • Liberate strongholds when you can. KeenGamer calls it the single largest Contribution gain available.
  • Stop stealing and fighting NPCs in a region you are trying to level — theft costs 5 points per item, confirmed by two sources.
  • Wear the Hernandian Attire (or try the cellar entrance) for Hernand Castle; the Scholastone Institute shop draws on the same pool.
  • Do not expect the Pailune shop before Chapter 7, or the main Demeniss Castle shop before Chapter 12.
  • Buy horse barding from Cobrin's Shop in Demeniss rather than hunting a generic "contribution vendor."
  • Get a Visione Helmet and a spare key before heading to Delesyia Castle.
  • Remember Tashkalp has two separate shops in Tommaso and Varnia: one silver-based (weapons, per our weapons guide), one points-based (Contribution).
  • Grab Bolton Plate Armor and Cloak early — 7 and 6 points respectively — before saving toward a 65-70 point Signet or Crown.
  • Farm a Golden Star kill for 500 Delesyian Contribution EXP if that region's shop is your priority.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Contribution system in Crimson Desert?
Contribution is a regional favor system separate from general faction standing. Each of five regions — Hernand (shared with Scholastone), Pailune, Demeniss, Delesyia and Tashkalp — tracks its own Contribution bar, which per KeenGamer fills in increments of 100 points per level. Leveling a region unlocks more of that region's dedicated shop, where every item is priced in Contribution points rather than silver.
How do you earn Contribution points in Crimson Desert?
Faction quests and bounties are the fastest route, per Game8. Liberating strongholds gives the single largest gain from one action, per KeenGamer. Giving coins to beggars in cities like Hernand and settlements like Scrapfold adds points at a rate of 1 point per copper given, once per beggar per day, per Yahoo's reporting. Random citizen-defense events in the open world also pay out without appearing in the quest log. Only progress past your previous high-water mark counts — re-climbing to a level you already reached earns nothing, per Game8.
How many Contribution shops are there in Crimson Desert?
Nine confirmed locations across five regional currencies, per independent counts from PowerPyx and Yahoo: two in the Hernandian pool (Hernand Castle and Scholastone Institute), one Pailunese (Pailune Town), three Demenissian (Demeniss Castle's main shop, a horse-armor vendor, and the Cathedral of Demeniss), one Delesyian (Delesyia Castle), and two sharing the Tashkalp pool (Tommaso and Varnia). One additional source, mapmaster.io, lists a tenth shop at the Greymane Camp, but that appears to conflate Contribution with Carl the Camp Provisioner's separate camp-funds donation system, which no other source lists as a Contribution vendor.
How do you unlock the Delesyia Contribution shop?
Per PowerPyx's location guide, you need to wear a Visione Helmet to get past the gate into Delesyia Castle, then use any key on a locked door at the northern edge of the grounds. Visiones are an established equipment category in Crimson Desert — Update 1.12.00 let Damiane and Oongka equip them to read memories and mount Blackstar — rather than a one-off requirement invented for this shop.
Why can't I access the Demeniss Contribution shop?
The main Demeniss Castle shop sits in territory that stays hostile until Chapter 12, the final numbered chapter of Crimson Desert's campaign, according to both PowerPyx and mapmaster.io. The city's other two Contribution vendors — a horse-armor specialist and a shop inside the Cathedral of Demeniss — are not gated behind the same late-game requirement and can be reached earlier.
What is the best early Contribution reward to buy in Crimson Desert?
Bolton Plate Armor and its matching cloak, sold at Hernandian shops for 7 and 6 points respectively per mapmaster.io's pricing, with Game8 independently calling the Bolton Plate set "a noticeable upgrade over normal equipment." That low a cost makes it an easy first purchase in any region before saving toward the higher-tier Signet and Crown cosmetics, which run 65 and 70 points at four of the five regional shops (Hernandian, Demenissian, Delesyian and Tashkalp) per KeenGamer's reward table — Pailune's table lists no equivalent.
Does crime lower your Contribution in Crimson Desert?
Yes. Theft costs 5 Contribution points per stolen item, confirmed independently by both KeenGamer and Yahoo's reporting. KeenGamer additionally states that assaulting or killing an NPC costs 30 points, though that specific figure is not corroborated elsewhere among the guides checked for this post, so treat it as reported by one source rather than fully cross-verified.
