Fortnite Season End: What You Keep and What Expires
The Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass screen says it is available through October 31, and Epic dates the next season to November 1. Here is what the changeover takes from you, what it doesn't, and the few things worth finishing first.

The Battle Pass screen has been telling you the deadline since launch day. In the bottom-left corner of the Chapter 7 Season 4 Passes tab, in small grey type: "Available through OCT 31 2026."
That gives you about a week from today, Sunday, October 25, and the pass is not the only thing on that clock. Some of it stays in your Locker for good, some of it is delivered to you after the fact, and some of it is simply gone. A couple of things Epic has not explained at all.
Where this comes from: Epic's own support pages, plus Epic's update notes on its Fortnite Communities site. Where only the Fortnite Wiki has the answer, it is labelled. What is in the pass itself is in our Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass breakdown and is not repeated here.
When Season 4 actually ends
Three Epic sources, and they fit together:
- The Battle Pass is "Available through OCT 31 2026," per the in-game Passes tab as it looked at launch (the screenshot above, from the Fortnite Wiki's archive of the v42.00 interface).
- Fortnitemares runs "until November 1," per Epic's v42.30 Battle Royale notes.
- The next season starts November 1. Epic's in-game news on October 24, mirrored by the wiki, reads: "Treasure Hunters is Coming. On November 1, prepare to set sail on an epic adventure."
What Epic had not published as of October 25 is the hour: there is no downtime time for the changeover in any Epic notes we found. The one clock we did find is the Fortnite Wiki's: its countdowns for this season's quests, the Ranked quests included, run out at 02:00 on October 31, with no time zone given. So treat Friday, October 30 as the last full day you can count on, and do not leave anything for Saturday.
What you keep and what you lose
| Item | What happens when the season ends | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pass rewards you earned, claimed or not | In your Locker; unclaimed ones are added automatically the next time you log in | Epic support |
| Buying the Season 4 Battle Pass | No longer possible | Epic support |
| XP toward the Season 4 pass | Stops counting | Epic support |
| Your Battle Pass level | Resets to 0 when the new pass starts | Fortnite Wiki |
| Gizmos (Portable Extractor, Spicy Taco and the rest) | Expire | Fortnite Wiki |
| Battle Royale rank | Reset at the start of this season; Epic has not announced the November 1 plan | Epic v42.00 notes |
| The Override 'Brella glider | Earned by winning a match during Season 4 | Fortnite Wiki |
| The gift bonus styles | The gifting window closes with the season | Fortnite Wiki, citing Epic |
| Sprites and Sprite Dust | Epic has not said | None |
The short version: pass rewards you have earned are safe, and anything you were still going to earn is not.
The Battle Pass: claiming, buying, and the gift bonus
Epic's support answer on unclaimed rewards is short: "If you forget to claim rewards from the Passes in Fortnite before the season ends, you will receive them automatically the next time you log in." It adds that this covers any reward you have "earned enough levels for." So you do not need to sit in the menu on October 31 clicking through pages. You do need to have the levels.
That last part is the real deadline. Epic's support pages say "It is not possible to purchase Passes for seasons that have ended," that its support team cannot grant access to a past pass, and that "once a season ends, you will not be able to earn XP progression on that season's Battle Pass." None of the three mentions a grace period.
If you are a few levels short, the numbers for the final week, from the wiki's Season 4, Battle Pass and Sprites pages:
| Route | What it costs | What it gets you |
|---|---|---|
| Playing | 80,000 XP | One Battle Pass level |
| Sprite Dust service | 1,000 Sprite Dust, once per day | 20,000 XP, a quarter of a level |
| Buying rewards | 150 V-Bucks each | Up to 99 rewards claimed individually |
| Level bundle | 1,800 V-Bucks, one per season | 25 levels |
The Sprite Dust row costs no V-Bucks. Even a full week of it is 140,000 XP, under two levels, so it will not rescue an empty pass, but it might close the gap to one specific reward.
The gift bonus. The wiki calls Season 4's the first gift bonus styles. Per its season page, gifting the Battle Pass to a friend "at any time during the season" unlocks the Peril Peak Mali styles, and the wiki's Battle Pass page, citing Epic's season announcement, says they unlock for both the gifter and the friend. That window closes with the season. It is the greyed-out "Gift the Pass and Get Rewards" button in the screenshot at the top.
If your pass comes from Fortnite Crew, the claiming rules are different: for anyone who subscribed from December 1, 2024 onward, a lapsed subscription locks unclaimed premium rewards. Our Fortnite Crew guide covers it. Renew or claim before the season ends, not after.
Will the Override skins come back?

Possibly, but not soon, and not for certain.
Epic changed the rule on August 7, 2024. Items from Battle Passes from Chapter 5 Season 4 onward may be sold in the Item Shop "18 or more months after the Battle Pass in question has expired," as Video Games Chronicle reported Epic's announcement. Epic's own FAQ, in the same report: "there is no guarantee that a Battle Pass item will come to the Shop." Epic's support page on past passes points to the same rule.
For this pass, the wiki's Season 4 page does the arithmetic: Override Battle Pass contents "can be reintroduced for the Item Shop after May 2028." Passes from before Chapter 5 Season 4 are still exclusive, per the wiki.
The side passes work the same way on the buying side. The wiki's pages for the OG Pass, Music Pass and LEGO Pass all say their items are not exclusive and may reach the Item Shop after their season, and all three say you cannot access a past pass.
Our read: if one of the eight Season 4 outfits is the reason you would buy this pass, the earliest Epic's own policy lets it return is a year and a half away, and Epic does not promise even that. Buy this week, or plan to wait until mid-2028 at the soonest.
Gizmos expire, so spend them

Epic's v42.00 notes described this season's Gizmos as "Available all Season long!", and the wiki is blunter: "Gizmos expire at the end of every Battle Royale Season." You open them from the Gizmo Wheel by holding the pickaxe slot, and the wiki says the wheel and the mode's options menu in the Lobby both show the days left before they expire.
The wiki lists eight Gizmos from the last two seasons:
| Gizmo | What it does (wiki) | Introduced |
|---|---|---|
| Portable Extractor | Extracts your equipped Sprite | Season 3 |
| Extraction Site Booster | Doubles the Sprite Dust from the next Extraction Crate | Season 3 |
| Sprite Locator | Marks a buried Sprite Chest | Season 3 |
| Lucky Locator | Marks a buried Sprite Chest with a Sprite you have not discovered | Season 3 |
| Cheat Code Locator | Locates the nearest Cheat Code | Season 4 |
| Llama Supply Drop | Calls a boosted llama-themed Supply Drop on you | Season 4 |
| Extraction Accelerator | Starts a nearby extraction silently and summons the crate instantly | Season 4 |
| Spicy Taco | Heals, plus a speed and stamina boost | Season 4 |
Epic's Fortnitemares notes also call the Snack-O'-Lantern a Gizmo. Anything still on your wheel by Friday is worth more used in a match than left to expire. Admin Panel codes have paid out in Gizmos this season; how those codes work is in our Override systems guide.
Sprites: the part Epic has not explained
None of the Epic notes or support pages we checked says what happens to Sprites or Sprite Dust on November 1, so a firm answer from anyone else is a guess. Here is what is on the record.
The wiki says an extracted Sprite is "unlocked permanently" and keeps its levels. But at the last season change, update v42.00 on August 20, the wiki records all 25 Sprites in its Season 3 list as vaulted at once: Water, Fire, Earth, Demon, Dream and the rest. None of them is in its 27-Sprite Season 4 list, and it tags Season 3 Sprites such as the Fire Sprite as vaulted and inaccessible. Epic's v42.00 notes put it as the Season 3 Sprites being "immortalized in the new Sprite Garden." "Unlocked permanently" did not mean "usable next season" last time.
Sprite Dust, per the wiki, "carries over between matches" and is not lost when you are eliminated. Whether it carries over between seasons is the open question.
The practical move under that uncertainty: if you are sitting on Dust, the once-a-day 20,000 XP purchase turns it into Battle Pass progress that is certain to count, which is more than anyone can say about a Dust balance on November 1. The wiki lists the other Dust services as a once-a-day Portable Extractor (2,500 Dust), a once-a-day Cheat Code Locator (1,500), and weapon rarity upgrades.
Ranked: bank the rewards before the reset
When this season started, Epic's v42.00 notes said: "Battle Royale ranks have reset for the new Season." Reload did the same mid-season: Epic's notes for Nitemare Island: Kado's Curse on October 8 call it "a new full reset, Ranked season." Epic has not published the November 1 Ranked plan, but every rank you climb this week should be treated as temporary.
The rewards are not, if you claim them the right way. The wiki's Season 4 Ranked Quests page lists each reward behind a quest that reads "Enter a Gold Ranked Battle Royale Match," and so on up through Unreal. Epic's Reload post says the rewards come from "reaching specific Ranked tiers," but as the wiki records the quests, the trigger is worded as entering a match at that rank. If you rank up in your last game of the season, queue one more Ranked match before the deadline, or the reward for the new rank may not unlock. The same page holds the Reload Season 11 rewards, which our Reload Nitemare Island guide lists, and dates the whole set of Ranked quests August 20 to October 31.
One more detail from the wiki's Ranked page: once you reach Unreal "you'll stay in Unreal for that Ranked Season," so an Unreal player cannot drop a rank this week. The general climbing method is in our Fortnite Ranked guide.

The Override 'Brella is another season-locked reward. The wiki says it "could have been obtained by winning a match during Chapter 7: Season 4," and lists a Crowned style for ranking high enough in the Season 4 Ranked Cups. If you have not won a match since August 20, this is the week.
Not everything ends on November 1
Fortnite runs several clocks at once, and only some of them stop with the Battle Royale pass:
| Mode or pass | Runs until | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Save the World: Bladey Acres questline (Raven) | October 28 | Epic, Save the World v42.30 notes |
| Battle Royale Battle Pass | October 31 | In-game Passes tab |
| Ranked Quests (Battle Royale and Reload Season 11 rewards) | October 31 | Fortnite Wiki |
| Music Pass Season 15, Neon Dreams | October 31 | Fortnite Wiki |
| LEGO Pass, Soaring Skies (extended from September 2) | October 31 | Fortnite Wiki |
| Fortnitemares in Battle Royale | November 1 | Epic, v42.30 Battle Royale notes |
| LEGO Fortnite Odyssey Halloween update | November 12 | Epic, LEGO Fortnite v42.40 notes |
| Save the World: Portal Combat questline (Grave Feather) | November 18 | Epic, Save the World v42.40 notes |
| Fortnite OG Season X and its OG Pass | December 4 | Fortnite Wiki |
Two of those are easy to get wrong. Bladey Acres closes first, three days before the pass. The Save the World side of Halloween is in our Save the World Fortnitemares guide. And OG players are not on this week's clock at all: Season X and its OG Pass run another five weeks, per the wiki and our OG Season X guide. LEGO's Halloween content also outlasts the pass, which Epic's notes say is "available until November 12th."
Quick Action Checklist
- Treat Friday, October 30 as the last full day. The Battle Pass screen says "Available through OCT 31 2026," but the wiki's quest timers run out at 02:00 on October 31 and Epic has not published the downtime hour
- Do not panic about unclaimed rewards. Epic delivers any reward you have the levels for the next time you log in
- Close any level gap now. 80,000 XP per level; 1,000 Sprite Dust buys 20,000 XP once a day; rewards cost 150 V-Bucks each
- Gift the pass this week if you want the Peril Peak Mali styles. The gifting window closes with the season
- Renew or claim if your pass comes from Fortnite Crew. For subscriptions since December 2024, a lapsed one locks unclaimed premium rewards
- Use every Gizmo on your wheel. The wiki says they expire at the end of every Battle Royale season
- Spend Sprite Dust on XP rather than banking it. Epic has not said whether Sprites or Dust survive November 1, and all 25 Season 3 Sprites were vaulted last time, per the wiki
- Enter one Ranked match at your highest rank. As the wiki records the quests, each rank reward is worded as entering a match at that rank
- Win one match for the Override 'Brella. It is a Season 4-only Victory Royale reward
- Finish Bladey Acres by October 28 for the Mythic Raven in Save the World
- OG players can relax. Season X and the OG Pass run until December 4, per the wiki
