Disney Lorcana at Gen Con 2026: 118 Sessions, a Stitch Promo, and a Coconut

Ravensburger's cheapest Gen Con ticket costs two dollars, and it might be the most important thing the company is doing at the show. A live report from day three: every Lorcana session counted, the participation promo verified, and the first public playtest in the game's history.

The cheapest Ravensburger ticket at Gen Con 2026 costs two dollars, and it might be the most important thing the company is doing at the show. More on that below - but first, the setting. Gen Con Indy sold out all four days for the third straight year, with roughly 70,000 gamers descending on Indianapolis from July 30 through August 2. Wizards of the Coast brought a drone light show. Somewhere in that noise, Disney Lorcana quietly staged its biggest-ever convention program.

Quick honesty note before the numbers: I'm writing this on August 1, day three of four. The show is still running. The Challenge Championship Qualifier's Top 8 plays out Saturday and Sunday events haven't happened, so you will find zero results, winners, or attendance totals in this post - only what Ravensburger announced (July 28) and what the Gen Con event catalog actually says, which I pulled and counted this morning.

The footprint: 118 sessions, counted

Lorcana's home for the weekend is Ravensburger's event space in Event Hall E, with the retail operation at Booth 2001 in the Exhibit Hall. The Gen Con event catalog splits Lorcana across two listings, and adding them up gives you the real footprint: 25 distinct events running 118 scheduled sessions across four days.

Here's how those 118 sessions break down, counted from the catalog on the morning of August 1:

BlockSessionsCost
Ticketed play events (Constructed, Sealed, Draft, and more)52$16-$76
Illumineer's Quest: The Great Hunny Rescue demos38Free
Collection Quest trading sessions16$20
New multiplayer format beta tests12$2

For scale, I ran the same count on the two incumbent TCGs in the same catalog, same morning: Magic: The Gathering has 549 scheduled sessions and Pokemon TCG has 168. Lorcana at 118 is not playing in Magic's weight class, and anyone telling you it already is deserves your skepticism. But 118 sessions with morning-to-midnight coverage is a real convention program, not a booth with a demo table - and the shape of those sessions is more interesting than the raw count.

Notice what the biggest single block is. It isn't a tournament. The most-scheduled Lorcana event at Gen Con 2026 is a free half-hour co-op demo, running roughly every hour, all four days, at eight seats a pop. Ravensburger is spending its biggest slice of table time on acquisition, not competition. Three years into the game's life, that's a deliberate choice, and I'll come back to it.

What the ticketed events look like

The 52 ticketed play sessions cover 22 distinct events, and the format spread is the most complete Lorcana has ever run at a convention. The competitive anchor is the Challenge Championship Qualifier on Friday - a seven-hour, 128-seat, $56 event feeding an invite-only Top 8 that plays Saturday. As of publication, no results have been posted; if you want the outcome, check Ravensburger's channels after the weekend.

Around that anchor, the catalog reads like a format sampler:

  • Core Constructed ($38) - the headline stakes here are sneaky-big. Core rotated on Attack of the Vine!'s release just a week before the show (prerelease July 17, wide release July 24), dropping Shimmering Skies through Reign of Jafar and leaving sets 9-13 legal. Gen Con is freshly rotated Core's first major convention outing.
  • Infinity Constructed ($38) - the eternal format, where everything ever printed is legal. Here's a detail I didn't expect: counting Triple Deck and Ink Sprint variants, Infinity has eight scheduled sessions to Core's six. The year-old eternal format is out-programming the flagship.
  • Sealed, Sealed Draft, and Booster Draft ($30-$76) - mostly Attack of the Vine!, plus genuine nostalgia events: a The First Chapter draft ($60) on Saturday, First Chapter Sealed ($70) on Sunday, and even a Shimmering Skies draft using a set that rotated out of Core eight days earlier.
  • Pack Rush ($18) - eight 30-minute, 100-seat sessions. Crack packs, play fast, leave with cards.
  • Starter Deck Chaos ($48) - random preconstructed deck, three rounds, keep the deck and a booster. Ravensburger's own announcement pitches it at people who don't own a deck yet, which tells you who they expect to walk through the door.
  • Ink Sprints ($16-$40) - 90-minute quick events, including Sealed sprints that run until midnight.

One planning note pulled straight from the announcement: the booth line forms at 8:45 a.m. each morning in the Hoosier Hallway, in the blue stanchions between Halls H and F, with daily allocations and a one-per-attendee limit on most Lorcana items. Veterans of TCG convention drops will recognize the system - it exists because earlier shows taught Ravensburger what happens without one.

Everyone leaves with a Stitch

The Disney Lorcana card Stitch - High Badness Level from Winterspell, a 2-ink Steel common with 3 Strength and 2 Willpower, showing Stitch gleefully wrecking a snow castle while Lilo glares at him.

Every player in a registered Lorcana event this weekend - from the $56 qualifier down to the two-dollar beta test - takes home the same card: a promo-stamped Stitch - High Badness Level.

I checked the card against the Lorcast database so you know exactly what's in the sleeve. The original is Winterspell #185, a Steel common: 2 ink for a 3 Strength, 2 Willpower body with 1 lore and Amped Up, which grants Challenger +3 while you have a character named Lilo in play. Flavor text: Lilo telling him "No more caffeine for you." It's a playable aggro common, not a chase rare - retail listings identify the Gen Con handout as the promo-stamped version numbered 35/P3 in Ravensburger's seasonal promo series, the same card that has been circulating at official events and expos this season.

That choice is the tell. A participation promo that's a stamped common rewards showing up and playing, and can't be flipped for beer money - which means the people in line for it are players, not resellers. Compare that with the purchase-side promos at Booth 2001: spend $20 or more on product and you get a Woody - Helping a Friend promo plus a Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor pin, one per transaction while supplies last. Complete a Collection Quest - a $20, 36-seat trading mini-game with sixteen sessions on the schedule, where you open three packs and trade with other players to finish a four-card set - and you earn a Violet Parr - Learning New Powers promo. Play promos and purchase promos, cleanly separated. Three years in, Ravensburger has learned exactly which lever moves which crowd.

The Hunny Rescue opened the show

Ravensburger opened Gen Con on Thursday, July 30 at 10 a.m. ET with a Streaming Stage live playthrough of Illumineer's Quest: The Great Hunny Rescue, simulcast on the official Twitch channel. That's the third co-op Illumineer's Quest box, following Deep Trouble and the Reign of Jafar quest, and this one sends your table into the Hundred Acre Wood: you and your fellow Illumineers traverse multiple chambers to find the source of the Vine's power and rescue Piglet.

If "the Vine" sounds familiar, it should - it's the same threat the current set, Attack of the Vine!, is built around. The set's Winnie the Pooh cards are literally warming up the audience for the box:

The Disney Lorcana card Winnie the Pooh and Piglet - Hunny Mages from Attack of the Vine!, a 5-ink Amethyst super rare showing Pooh in purple wizard robes conjuring streams of honey magic while Piglet floats overhead with bees.

That's Winnie the Pooh & Piglet - Hunny Mages, an Amethyst super rare from the current set: Shift 3 onto any Pooh or Piglet, and Magical Mix pays +1 lore per different ink type among your characters. The Hunny arc isn't a co-op-only gimmick; it's threaded through the competitive card pool right now.

Gen Con attendees get first crack at the product itself - early copies are on sale at Booth 2001 all weekend, under the same daily-allocation rules as everything else, ahead of the wide release in October. The 38 free demo slots are the widest on-ramp: eight seats, roughly every hour, no deck, no experience, no ticket cost. If Ravensburger's bet is that a Pooh co-op box converts board gamers into TCG players, Gen Con - 500-plus exhibiting companies' worth of exactly that audience - is the right place to test it.

The Coconut in the room

Now the two-dollar ticket. On July 28, two days before the show, Ryan Miller - co-creator of the game and Director of Play and Product - announced something Lorcana has never done: an open beta test of a new multiplayer format, codenamed Format Coconut. The Gen Con catalog lists twelve beta sessions: ten 90-minute seatings where decks are provided, plus two late-night, 192-seat capacity bring-your-own-deck sessions at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Two dollars each.

The rules, from Miller's announcement: build around one spotlighted Coconut character card, which unlocks up to three ink types in your deck (one must match the Coconut card's ink). Minimum 60 cards, singleton everything - except up to four copies of the character associated with your Coconut card. Multiplayer rules, play to 25 lore.

Singleton deckbuilding around a spotlight character with expanded ink identity and a raised life total - any Magic player will recognize the silhouette immediately. This is Lorcana taking a swing at its own Commander: a casual, social, replayable format designed, in Miller's words, to give groups a way to play together without the pressure of facing off one-on-one.

Four players around a table mid-game in a multiplayer Disney Lorcana match, two of them laughing over fanned hands of cards, in the official promotional photo for the Format Coconut announcement.

The delivery method matters as much as the format. Ravensburger isn't shipping this finished - it's explicitly collecting community feedback on the format rules and the individual Coconut card designs before anything launches. For a company that has historically announced products fully formed, running a public playtest on a convention floor is a culture shift. Commander became Magic's most-played format because it grew up in the community for years before Wizards touched it; Ravensburger is trying to speedrun that legitimacy by inviting the community in at the design stage. Whether a top-down "grassroots" format can actually take root is a fair question - but the two-dollar price and the 192-seat midnight sessions say they want a real sample size, not a photo op.

Three years in: what the schedule says

Lorcana launched at this exact show in August 2023, with lines that became TCG folklore. The 3rd Anniversary Bundle sitting on the booth menu this weekend ($41.98, with a portfolio, a Fabled single-player deck, and a Brave Little Tailor pin) is Ravensburger underlining the date.

Read the whole Gen Con 2026 program as one document and it describes a game that has finished building the scaffolding of a mature TCG. A rotating format that just executed its second annual rotation on schedule. An eternal format with its own ban list - now out-programming the rotating one at the biggest tabletop show in North America. A championship circuit with a 128-seat qualifier. A co-op product line on its third box. And a casual multiplayer format entering public beta. In 2023, Lorcana's structural roadmap was a rumor; in 2026, every layer of the Magic playbook is present and running simultaneously in Event Hall E.

What the schedule doesn't describe is a game coasting on that structure. Thirty-eight of 118 sessions are free demos. The flagship ticketed format got two dedicated sessions; the learn-to-play co-op box got nineteen times that. Ravensburger is still spending its convention like a company acquiring players, not defending champions - which, with Magic running 549 sessions in the same building, is the honest read of where Lorcana stands. Three years in, it's no longer the new game everyone's curious about. It's the established number-three fighting for tables, and fighting smart.

Day four is still to come. Whoever wins that Top 8, and however many early Hunny Rescue copies survive the weekend - that's a story for after the show. What's already certain by day three: the coconut got considered.
