The Witcher 3 Achievements: All 78, Ranked by Rarity

More Steam players have reached character level 35 in The Witcher 3 than have finished the story on any difficulty. That is not a typo and it is not a guess: it is Steam's own global achievement data, and it is the kind of thing you only notice once you line up all 78 achievements next to how many players actually have each one.

Our other guides tell you how to beat Imlerith, which witcher gear to wear, and what New Game Plus keeps or deletes. None of them tell you which of the game's 78 achievements almost nobody finishes, which ones nearly everybody has by accident, and why the two expansions are, on average, more than twice as hard to fully clear as the base game. That is what this is for.

The rarest achievement isn't a boss kill

The single rarest achievement in The Witcher 3, per Steam's own tracking, is not a boss kill, not Death March, and not a Gwent tournament. It is Master Marksman: kill 50 human and nonhuman opponents by shooting them in the head with a crossbow bolt. Only 1.8% of Steam players have it, which makes it rarer than finishing the entire game on Death March (3.6%, Walked the Path), rarer than clearing every Place of Power bonus at once (5.1%, Power Overwhelming), and rarer than owning every base-game Gwent card (4.8%, Card Collector).

The reason is not difficulty in the traditional sense. It is that the crossbow is the game's most-ignored weapon slot, headshots specifically do not come up in the tutorial or in most builds, and the counter tracks only kills, not attempts. Compare it to Humpty Dumpty (2.0%, kill 10 enemies with a Sign-launched fall) and The Enemy of My Enemy (2.6%, force 20 kills with Axii-charmed enemies): all three sit at the bottom of the rarity list for the same reason. They ask for a specific, repeatable interaction that a normal, story-focused playthrough of Geralt's default toolkit simply never produces on its own.

How this list works

Every achievement's requirement text below comes from the Witcher Wiki's achievements page, which lists 78 achievements total: 52 in the base game, 13 in Hearts of Stone, 13 in Blood and Wine. That 52/13/13 split is stated on the page and this article's own count of the wiki's table rows matches it exactly, so the total holds up.

The rarity percentage next to each one is pulled directly from Steam's public global achievement statistics for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Steam app 292030), current as of this writing. Two scope notes worth being upfront about:

• This is Steam data only. PlayStation and Xbox track their own completion rates independently, and this article does not have verified numbers for either platform. The requirement text is identical across all platforms — the mechanics do not change — but do not assume the rarity percentages transfer.
• The "Points" and "Trophy" columns are platform labels, not difficulty ratings. Points are Xbox Gamerscore (15, 30 or 65 per achievement, unused on Steam and PlayStation); Trophy is the PlayStation medal tier (Bronze, Silver or Gold). CD Projekt Red does not appear to have scaled either one to match how rare an achievement actually turns out to be — Master Marksman, the rarest achievement in the game, is worth the same 15 Gamerscore and Bronze trophy as achievements over half of Steam players already have.

The ten rarest achievements on Steam

Five of these ten come from Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine even though those two expansions have only 26 achievements between them against the base game's 52 — which is a preview of the pattern the next section covers properly. Hasta la Vista™ in particular is a good example of a rare achievement that is not actually hard: freezing an enemy takes Yrden or the Northern Wind bomb, and a crossbow headshot on a frozen target is trivial once you know to try it. Nobody tries it, because nothing in the game tells you to.

The ten most common achievements on Steam

Read that top end carefully, because it is the single most useful data point in this whole list: even Lilac and Gooseberries, the single most common achievement in the game, sits at 60.1%. Finding Yennefer is a main-quest beat that happens whether you are chasing the story or not. That means every number in this article is a floor on how many Steam owners actually played deep into the game, not a ceiling — a large minority of people who own The Witcher 3 on Steam, by this evidence, never got past the opening hours.

The expansions are more than twice as hard

Line up the average rarity across each of the three achievement sets and the gap is not subtle:

The average base-game achievement sits at just over 20% of Steam players. The average expansion achievement sits under 10% — meaning the typical Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine achievement is held by about 43% as many players as the typical base-game one, a bit under half. Part of that is simple funnel math: fewer players buy and finish the DLC than finish the base game at all. But it also tracks with what the expansion achievements actually ask for. Base-game achievements skew toward things a normal playthrough brushes against anyway (finding Ciri, finding Yennefer, reading books). Expansion achievements skew toward optional side content players have to go looking for — every Ofieri item, every Iris nightmare fought simultaneously, the full Skellige Gwent deck.

Base game achievements: all 52

Sorted rarest first.

Read Passed the Trial against Munchkin and The King is Dead again: finishing the story on any difficulty (21.9%) is rarer than reaching character level 35 (24.1%) and about as rare as beating the final boss (22.0%). Since you cannot beat Eredin without finishing the game, all three numbers should really be close to identical, and they are — within about 2 percentage points of each other, which is the kind of gap normal measurement noise across a userbase this size produces. Gwent Master (11.1%) asks you to beat Tybalt at the Passiflora tournament, which our Gwent guide covers strategy for — it is more common than Card Collector (4.8%, own every base-game gwent card) but rarer than Geralt: The Professional (10.1%, complete every witcher contract), which our contracts guide turns into a checklist rather than a skill check.

Hearts of Stone achievements: all 13

Sorted rarest first.

The gap between Curator of Nightmares (10.9%, recreate all of Iris' nightmares) and When It's Many Against One... (2.6%, fight all of them simultaneously instead) is the single biggest tell in this whole set: both come out of the same questline, and completing the intended sequence is over four times more common than the version where you provoke every nightmare into one fight at once. Pacta Sunt Servanda — just finishing the expansion at all — sits at 16.3%, which puts a number on how much of the Hearts of Stone buyer base does not see the story through, let alone chase any of the twelve harder achievements around it.

Blood and Wine achievements: all 13

Embodiment of the Five Virtues (12.0%) is the achievement for receiving Aerondight, and our New Game Plus guide covers what makes that sword worth the quest chain: it is the only pre-4.0 weapon in the game that keeps scaling with your level for the rest of the run. Turned Every Stone (7.6%, every grandmaster diagram) and Dressed to Kill (9.5%, a full witcher school set bonus) both feed directly into the ranking in our witcher gear guide — Dressed to Kill only asks for one school's set, and even that clears fewer than 1 in 10 Steam players.

Playing House, at 13.2%, is the achievement for fully renovating Corvo Bianco. Our Blood and Wine guide notes that the same renovation also unlocks the cellar lab and mutagen conversion, which is the more immediate reason to finish it — the achievement comes along with the upgrade either way.

PlayStation's extra platinum

Everything above is 78 achievements, and that figure holds on Steam and Xbox both. PlayStation has one more: The Limits of the Possible, a Platinum trophy awarded automatically once every other trophy in the game has been earned. It carries no separate requirement text of its own and no Gamerscore-equivalent point value — it exists purely as the platinum capstone PlayStation's trophy system expects a fully-completed game to have. That makes the PlayStation total 79 trophies where Steam and Xbox both stop at 78 achievements.

Does Remastered change any of this?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered ships 29 September 2026 — see our Remastered guide for the full platform and upgrade breakdown. As of this writing, CD PROJEKT RED has not published anything about whether Remastered adds new achievements, changes any existing requirement, or resets progress for players who upgrade an existing save. None of its announcement materials, its support FAQ, or its product page mention achievements or trophies at all. Treat that as an open question rather than an assumption in either direction until CD PROJEKT RED says something concrete.

Quick Action Checklist

• If you only chase one rare achievement, make it Master Marksman: switch to the crossbow deliberately and aim for heads, since nothing else in a normal playthrough builds toward it.
• Freeze an enemy with Yrden or a Northern Wind bomb, then crossbow it, for Hasta la Vista™ — a 2.2% achievement that takes one setup, not a build.
• If you are doing the Iris von Everec questline in Hearts of Stone, decide up front whether you want Curator of Nightmares (fight her nightmares one at a time, the intended path) or When It's Many Against One... (provoke all of them into one fight) — they come from the same content and are not both easy to get in one run.
• Card Collector and I Have a Gwent Problem are separate achievements for the base game and Skellige decks respectively; clearing one does not progress the other.
• Passed the Trial only needs a finish on any difficulty. If the story is the goal and Death March is not, that is a legitimate, achievement-tracked way to see the ending.
• Renovating Corvo Bianco fully in Blood and Wine earns Playing House and unlocks mutagen conversion in the same purchase — do it for the mechanic, get the achievement for free.
