Fortnite Blitz Royale Guide: How the 5-Minute Mode Works

Blitz Royale was meant to close on July 15, 2025. Fifteen months later it has its own dev team, a $1,000,000 mobile tournament and a victory emote you can only earn inside it. Here is how a match actually runs: the kit everyone lands with, what Blitz Levels pay out, where the gold loot is, how fast the storm kills, and what Epic has and has not changed this season.

Blitz Royale was supposed to be gone by July 15, 2025. Epic launched it on June 18 of that year as a four-week, mobile-first experiment: 32 players, no building, a match short enough to finish on a bus ride. Then it extended it, and kept extending it. Fifteen months later the mode has its own patch notes signed by "The Blitz Dev Team", a $1,000,000 mobile tournament series, and a victory emote you can only earn inside it.

It has not had a guide on this site. Our modes overview does not cover it, and our removed modes guide gives it a table row and a short paragraph. So this is the full version: what you land with, what Blitz Levels pay out, where the gold loot is, how fast the storm kills, and what Epic has and has not changed in Chapter 7 Season 4.

Where this comes from: Epic publishes Blitz changes in a separate Blitz Royale channel on its Fortnite Communities site, not in the main Battle Royale update notes. This season's v42.00, v42.10 and v42.20 Battle Royale notes mention Blitz only in two bug fixes. Epic's Blitz notes are the primary source below. The Fortnite Wiki fills in what Epic does not publish.

What Blitz Royale actually is

Epic's Blitz Royale key art: a purple-haired outfit in a white cap leaps forward with an SMG and a shotgun under a lightning burst, other players gliding and fighting on a grassy hillside behind her.

Epic's own island listing sums it up in its first line: "Smaller maps. Faster games." The rest of that description, and Epic's launch posts, give you the rules that matter:

LaunchedJune 18, 2025, in update v36.10

Epic sold it on launch week as "Battle Royale 🤝 Roguelike", with new Medallions and power-ups every game, and as "made for mobile". The original four weeks became eight when Epic extended the run to August 12, 2025. In July 2025 Tim Sweeney reposted a message on X that esports.gg read as confirmation the mode would stay, and it has been live ever since apart from one gap. The wiki records Blitz going offline on November 29, 2025, when Chapter 7 launched, and coming back on December 4 with a new map.

How a Blitz match runs

Epic's v41.20 Blitz notes (July 16, 2026) recapped the current rules, and the v42.00 notes (August 20) added the season's starting item. Put together with two wiki-documented rules, these are the main Blitz-specific rules:

RuleWhat it meansSource
Starting loadoutYou land with a Pistol, one Small Mini Potion and a Pocket ItemEpic, v41.20
Starting Bus itemThe Tetris Rift (Epic's notes call it the "Tetris Junk Rift")Epic, v42.00
Shared starting weaponsEveryone starts with the same weapon(s), rotating from a pool each matchEpic, v41.20
Glider redeployRedeploy your glider any time you have the heightEpic, v41.20
PickaxeComes with unlimited staminaEpic, v41.20
StructuresWeapons deal much less damage to environmental structuresEpic, v41.20
MedallionsDo not mark your location and cannot be droppedFortnite Wiki
AimingYou can aim down sights in midair with every weapon, since v39.00Fortnite Wiki

Two of those change how fights play. Cover is sturdier than it used to be, because Epic cut weapon damage to environmental structures (its July 16 notes list it as a recent change), which matters in a mode where natural cover is the only cover. And the glider is a rotation tool, not just a landing tool: any time you have height, you can pull it again.

On the random power-up: Epic's launch copy said every player starts with the same random Medallion or unique weapon, and the wiki says Medallion or Boon. For this season, the wiki's logs show v42.00 putting the Night Rose and Machinist's Medallions into the Blitz pool, and the Wind Boon (faster movement with your pickaxe out) back in Blitz since July's v41.20. Whichever you get, the whole lobby has it too, so it is the rule of that match rather than an edge.

Blitz Levels: loot you earn by fighting

Epic's description: "Rack up eliminations and survive Storm circles to increase your Blitz Level." Each level up drops loot on you. If your inventory is full, the wiki says the item falls to the floor and is marked.

Epic's update notes do not list what each level pays. The Fortnite Wiki's current reading is:

Blitz LevelReward (per the Fortnite Wiki)
2A random "featured" weapon or utility item, drawn from the small pool added in the latest update
3A higher-tier featured item, with a chance of a featured Mythic or Exotic
4Same as level 3
5A random Mythic or Exotic weapon

Treat that table as community-observed. An editors' note in the wiki page's source says the rewards changed around July's John Wick update, possibly as early as June's Star Wars update. Level 5 used to hand out one of four items: a Mythic Goldfish, a Legendary Slurp Juice, a Banana of the Gods, or, much more rarely, the Infinity Blade. Old videos showing those drops are describing the previous system.

The practical point is the one Epic's v41.20 notes make: "The more you take down, the higher you'll rise." In Blitz, every elimination also moves you toward your next level-up drop.

Gold Chests, Gold Supply Drops and the llama

Floor loot is the bottom of the ladder. Epic's v41.20 notes point at where the good gear is: "Keep an eye out for Golden Llamas and Supply Drops." Epic spelled out how the tiers stack in the v41.00 Blitz notes for June's Star Wars update, which gave the rarity for every blaster by source:

Where it came fromBlaster rarity (v41.00 Blitz notes)
Floor lootUncommon or Rare
Gold ChestsEpic
Gold Supply DropsLegendary
Gold LlamasMythic (DL-44 Pistol, F-11D Blaster Rifle)

That table is one update's loot pool, not a permanent rule, and Epic has not restated it for Season 4. But Epic's v41.20 notes repeat the principle: gold containers are where the rarity lives. The wiki adds that one Silver or Golden Supply Llama spawns per match at a random spot, and Golden Supply Drops fall throughout the match.

The storm gives you about five minutes

The full Blitz storm table is in our storm phases guide, so here is only what it means for a match. By the Fortnite Wiki's table, Blitz has six shrinking phases totalling 5 minutes 10 seconds, starting from a 700 m radius:

  • There is no waiting at the start. Phases 0 and 1 have no wait time, and phase 1 shrinks the circle from 700 m to 360 m in 30 seconds.
  • Damage is gentle, then it is not. It runs 1%, 1%, 2% and 5% of your maximum health per second through phase 4, then 20% at phase 5 and 40% at phase 6. At 100 health that is five seconds of life in a phase-5 storm and two and a half in phase 6.
  • No Storm Surge listed. The wiki describes Storm Surge for Battle Royale, Reload and Fortnite OG only.

One flag on those numbers. The wiki's Blitz hotfix log disagrees with its own table in two cells, not just the one our storm guide lists. The August 1, 2025 hotfix set phase 6 damage to 50%, where the table says 40%. The same hotfix set the phase 1 shrink to 40 seconds, where the table says 30. Resolve both the log's way and the storm runs 5 minutes 20 seconds. Neither changes how you play: be inside the circle before phase 5.

One map since April: Venture

The Venture Blitz map from above: a compact green island with a lake near its centre, a network of roads, towns on its west and south-east sides, and a small separate island to the north-east.

Blitz is played on Venture, the mode's original map. The wiki describes it as a smaller, Chapter 1-themed version of Reload's Venture island, with five named locations: Retail Row, Pleasant Park, Snobby Shoals, Sandy Sheets and Lazy Laps. Epic's v42.00 Blitz notes confirm it is still the live map. One of that update's bug fixes is for faded road markings "across the Venture map".

It is also the only map. The wiki's rotation history shows Blitz has used five maps, with a two-map rotation that switched every 10 minutes for part of last winter, and nothing but Venture since April 30, 2026:

DateWhat happened to the Blitz map
June 18, 2025Launched on Venture, with five named locations
August 26, 2025Venture was reworked into Asteria Awakened, a Chapter 4-themed version
September 12, 2025Stark Island, the Marvel map, replaced it
September 25, 2025Asteria Awakened returned
November 21, 2025The Stranger Things island replaced it
December 4-9, 2025Blitz returned from its outage on Starfall Island; Stranger Things rejoined on December 5 in a two-map rotation, switching every 10 minutes from December 9
January 12, 2026Asteria Awakened replaced Stranger Things in the rotation
March 19, 2026Stark Island replaced both
April 1, 2026Starfall Island replaced Stark Island
April 30, 2026The original Venture replaced Starfall Island. It has been the only map since

That is five months on one island, and Epic's two Blitz notes this season do not mention a map change. At the time of writing, 13 of the 18 replies under those two posts ask for a new map or for rotation to come back.

What Chapter 7 Season 4 added to Blitz

Epic's Blitz Royale playlist tile for the Sonic the Hedgehog week: Sonic giving a thumbs up between the gold Blitz Royale logo and the Sonic the Hedgehog logo.

The wiki files the season opener as Blitz's Week 62: Sonic the Hedgehog, live from August 20. Epic's v42.00 Blitz notes used different names from the Battle Royale notes for several of the new items. Matched against the wiki's Blitz loot log, using the item descriptions in Epic's v42.00 Battle Royale notes, this is what joined:

Epic's Blitz notes call itWiki's Blitz loot log lists it as
Tetris Junk Rift (the new starting Bus item)Tetris Rift
Mega Man BlasterMega Buster
Golden GunMidas' Masterpiece
Invulnerability LlamasGod Mode Llama
Extra Life Power-Ups1-Up Token
8-Bit Blaster8-Bit Shotgun
Sonic BallSonic Power Sneakers
Kill Switch RevolversKillswitch Revolvers
Lever Action ShotgunLever Action Shotgun

The pairing is ours, not Epic's. Where the wiki logs two versions of an item, as with the Killswitch Revolvers and the 8-Bit and Overclocked 8-Bit Shotguns, Epic's Blitz notes use a single name. Epic's list also names the Chaos Exploder, which the wiki logs as already in the Blitz pool since July. What the new Season 4 items do in Battle Royale is covered in our Chapter 7 Season 4 weapons post.

Two more landed with v42.20 on September 17, and that was the whole of Epic's v42.20 Blitz notes: the Kingdom Key and Rebecca's Guns, the same two items our v42.20 breakdown covers for Battle Royale. The wiki's log records the Blitz Kingdom Key at Epic rarity and Rebecca's Guns from Uncommon to Exotic.

The wiki's log also records what Epic's notes left out. v42.00 removed thirteen items, among them the 9mm Baba Yaga, the Mythic Bank Shot Pistol and the Chaos Reloader Shotgun that Epic had added for July's John Wick week. The Overclocked 8-Bit Shotgun was pulled the day after launch and returned on September 17, the same day the Epic-rarity Lever Action Shotgun left.

Wins, wings and the crowns Blitz stopped paying

Epic's Blitz Victory Wings news art: the purple-haired outfit posing with large glowing golden crystal wings, with three smaller insets showing orange, pink and blue versions of the wings.

Blitz wins no longer count as Crown Wins. Epic announced it on February 19, 2026, in the same post that lowered the requirements for the Wings of Renown. If you are chasing a Crown Win total, Blitz does nothing for it; our Victory Crown guide covers how crowns work where they still count.

What Blitz wins do earn:

  • Wings of Renown. An emote added on November 11, 2025, unlocked by your first Blitz Victory Royale. The wings upgrade as your Blitz win count rises.
  • The Blitz 'Brella glider, for three Blitz wins, per the wiki.

The wiki lists twelve Wings of Renown tiers. Epic has not published the thresholds, and the wiki's current numbers replaced a different list in May 2026, so treat them as community-recorded:

Wings tierBlitz wins needed (per the Fortnite Wiki)
Rare I, II, III1, 3, 5
Epic I, II, III10, 20, 40
Legendary I, II, III80, 130, 200
Mythic I, II, III310, 480, 750

Prize money, but no ranked ladder

There is no Ranked Blitz. The Fortnite Wiki's Ranked page lists Ranked in Battle Royale, Reload, Arenas Boxfights and Rocket Racing, and Blitz is not among them. A Blitz win moves your Wings, not a rank. If you want a ladder, our Ranked guide covers Battle Royale's Build and Zero Build ladders.

Blitz does have money attached. Epic's Fortnite Mobile Series is a Solo, touch-only tournament played in Blitz Royale with a $1,000,000 prize pool. Our mobile guide has the stage schedule and the regional payout ladder, and our Cash Cups guide explains how points-based Fortnite events score.

How to win more Blitz games

Everything below follows from the rules above:

  1. Land inside or near the first circle. Phase 1 has no wait and shrinks the radius from 700 m to 360 m in 30 seconds, so a landing spot far from the first circle costs you time you do not have.
  2. Work out the shared starting item early. The whole lobby has it, so play to it rather than around it. The wiki notes that Blitz Medallions and Boons do not show in the inventory menu, so a Medallion may only reveal itself through its effect.
  3. Go for gold containers, not floor loot. Gold Chests, Gold Supply Drops and the match's one llama are where Epic's own notes put the higher rarities.
  4. Take the early fights. Eliminations raise your Blitz Level alongside surviving storm circles, and level 5 is a Mythic or Exotic weapon by the wiki's reading.
  5. Use the glider redeploy to rotate. If you are on high ground and the circle pulls away, glide rather than run.
  6. Trust natural cover. Since Epic's summer change, weapons do much less damage to environmental structures in Blitz, and there is no building to fall back on. Our Zero Build guide covers cover-to-cover play in general.
  7. Be in the circle before phase 5. At 20% per second, and 40% in the final phase, a full 100-health bar lasts five seconds or less.

Quick Action Checklist

  • Queue Blitz for short sessions: 32 players, no building, and a storm table that closes in about five minutes
  • Expect to land with a Pistol, a Small Mini Potion, a Pocket Item and the Tetris Rift this season, plus the lobby's shared weapon or Medallion
  • Land near the first circle. It halves in 30 seconds with no wait
  • Fight for Blitz Levels. Eliminations and surviving circles raise them, and each level drops loot on you
  • Hunt gold containers: Gold Chests, Gold Supply Drops and the one llama per match
  • Redeploy your glider whenever you have the height
  • Do not farm Blitz for Crown Wins. They stopped counting on February 19, 2026
  • Track your Wings of Renown instead: first tier at 1 win, Blitz 'Brella at 3
  • Know there is no Ranked Blitz. The Mobile Series is the mode's competitive route

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Blitz Royale in Fortnite?
Blitz Royale is a Fortnite battle royale mode for 32 players with no building, launched on June 18, 2025 and built for short sessions on mobile; Epic's pitch is a Victory Royale in five minutes or less. Every player lands with the same starting loadout and the same random Medallion or weapon, and raises a Blitz Level during the match by eliminating opponents and surviving storm circles, with each level dropping extra loot. It began as a four-week limited-time mode and has run ever since, apart from a five-day outage in late 2025.
How many players are in a Fortnite Blitz Royale match?
A Fortnite Blitz Royale match has 32 players, per Epic's own description of the mode, on a much smaller map than standard Battle Royale. Blitz is Zero Build only, so there is no building. It launched with Solo and Squads, and Epic added Duos on launch day in June 2025.
How do Blitz Levels work in Fortnite Blitz Royale?
In Fortnite Blitz Royale you raise your Blitz Level by eliminating opponents and surviving storm circles, and each level up drops loot on you, falling to the floor and marked if your inventory is full. Epic's update notes do not list the per-level rewards. The Fortnite Wiki currently reads them as a featured weapon or utility item at level 2, higher-tier featured items with a chance of a Mythic or Exotic at levels 3 and 4, and a random Mythic or Exotic weapon at level 5.
What map is Fortnite Blitz Royale on right now?
As of September 30, 2026, Fortnite Blitz Royale runs on a single map, Venture, the mode's original Chapter 1-themed island, with the named locations Retail Row, Pleasant Park, Snobby Shoals, Sandy Sheets and Lazy Laps. Venture replaced Starfall Island on April 30, 2026 and has been the only Blitz map since. Epic's v42.00 Blitz notes for Chapter 7 Season 4 still reference the Venture map. Blitz has used five maps in total: Venture, Asteria Awakened, Stark Island, the Stranger Things island and Starfall Island.
Do Blitz Royale wins count for Victory Crowns?
No. Epic announced on February 19, 2026 that Crown Wins are no longer counted in Fortnite Blitz Royale. Blitz wins now count toward the Wings of Renown emote, which unlocks with your first Blitz Victory Royale and upgrades as your Blitz win total rises, and the Blitz 'Brella glider, which the Fortnite Wiki lists as a reward for three Blitz wins.
Is there a ranked mode for Fortnite Blitz Royale?
No. The Fortnite Wiki's Ranked page lists Ranked in Battle Royale, Reload, Arenas Boxfights and Rocket Racing, and Blitz Royale is not included. Blitz's competitive route is Epic's Fortnite Mobile Series, a Solo, touch-only tournament played in Blitz Royale with a $1,000,000 prize pool.
How fast does the storm close in Fortnite Blitz Royale?
By the Fortnite Wiki's storm table, the Blitz Royale storm has six shrinking phases totalling 5 minutes 10 seconds from a 700 m starting radius. There is no wait before the first shrink, which halves the radius to 360 m in 30 seconds. Storm damage is 1% to 5% of maximum health per second through phase 4, then 20% at phase 5 and 40% at phase 6, although the wiki's own hotfix log gives 50% for phase 6.
