Genshin Vesna Build Guide — Talents, Weapon, Artifacts

Vesna's biggest hits change damage formulas depending on whether a Stellar Swirl went off in the last eight seconds. Build her like an ordinary Anemo carry and you are optimising the half of her kit that does the least.

Vesna, Commander of the Druzhna, in her official Event Wish splash art — Genshin Impact's 5-star Anemo sword user released in Version 7.1.

Why Vesna Needs Her Own Guide

Our 7.1 release guide named Vesna two days before launch and deliberately stopped there, because her talent tables were still blank. Our Vodyanitsa build guide went out two days after release and left one question open: whether Vesna counts as a Stellar Swirl enabler at all.

She does. HoYoverse's own Version 7.1 update notes describe her as an Anemo DMG dealer "who enables her party to trigger Stellar Swirl reactions," and her talent page files the passive that does it as a Stellar Jubilee Passive — the same category as Sandrone's, Odette's and the Cryo Traveler's. The wiki's aggregate Stellar Swirl page still lists only those three enablers as of September 28, which is that page lagging, not the kit being ambiguous.

That settles the team question, and it also tells you how to build her. Vesna is not a support. She is an on-field Anemo sword user whose largest hits switch to a different damage formula when a Stellar Swirl has gone off in the last eight seconds. Gear her like an ordinary Anemo carry and you are optimising the half of her kit that does the least.

What Her Kit Actually Does

Her Elemental Skill, The Art of Victory, deals AoE Anemo DMG, hands her 2 stacks of Sword Essence and puts her in Armed for Action for up to 15 seconds, on an 18-second cooldown. In that mode her Normal, Charged and Plunging Attacks become Anemo DMG that no other infusion can override, each one summons a wind pinion for an extra Anemo hit, and the pinions refill Sword Essence.

Sword Essence buys Windborne Sword, a special Elemental Skill that levels up every time she uses it inside the same Armed for Action window: Lv. 1, then Lv. 2, then Lv. 3. From Lv. 2 on, each cast also summons Spirit Blades. The mode ends when the 15 seconds run out or after her third Lv. 3 cast, and any Sword Essence left over is cleared when it does.

Her Elemental Burst, For the Tsaritsa!, costs 60 Energy on a 15-second cooldown, summons more Spirit Blades for AoE Anemo DMG and gives her a stack of Sword Essence.

Two ascension passives shape how you play her:

  • Rite of Spring's Procession (1st Ascension) grants a stack of Disciplinary Action each time she uses Windborne Sword or her Burst — up to 6, each on its own 20-second timer — and each stack makes her Spirit Blades deal an extra 10% of their original DMG, so 6 stacks means 160%. Every stack clears when she recasts The Art of Victory or leaves the field. Spirit Blades summoned late in a window hit harder than the ones summoned early.
  • Truth Prevails (4th Ascension) only works in Radiance: Stellar Swirl, and it reads your party: every Cryo or Anemo character adds 6% ATK, and every character of any other element adds 25 Elemental Mastery instead.

Her utility passive, The Grand Circuit, lets her hover in the air out of combat. It is pleasant in Snezhnaya's mountains and has no bearing on the build.

She Switches On Stellar Swirl Herself

Her Stellar Jubilee Passive, Splendid Prelude, does two jobs.

First, it converts. When anyone in the party triggers Cryo Swirl — Anemo hitting a Cryo-affected target — it becomes Stellar Swirl instead, and the party's Stellar Swirl Base DMG rises 0.7% for every 100 ATK Vesna has, capped at 14%. That cap lands at exactly 2,000 ATK. Note what it does not convert: Sandrone, Odette and the Cryo Traveler also turn Superconduct into Stellar-Conduct, per their passive text. Vesna's passive names Cryo Swirl only, so she switches on half of the Stellar family, not all of it.

Second, it turns her on. After a party member triggers Stellar Swirl nearby, Vesna enters Radiance: Stellar Swirl for 8 seconds, and in that state every Spirit Blade she summons deals Anemo DMG that counts as Stellar Swirl reaction DMG.

That is the whole build in one line: keep Radiance up while the Spirit Blades land. She is the Anemo half of the reaction, so the one thing she cannot supply is the Cryo. With no Cryo applier on the team, she can only trigger Stellar Swirl off an enemy that already carries Cryo; everywhere else she never enters Radiance, and her Spirit Blades stay plain Anemo hits.

What Radiance Changes About Her Damage

The wiki's Damage page gives directly dealt Stellar Glimmer DMG its own formula, separate from the general one. Side by side:

BracketOrdinary Anemo hitSpirit Blade in Radiance (Stellar Swirl DMG)
Talent % × ATKYesYes, at a reaction coefficient of 1
DMG Bonus (Anemo goblet, Anemo DMG buffs)YesNo
Enemy DEF multiplierYesNo
Stellar Swirl Base DMG Bonus (Splendid Prelude, up to 14%)NoYes
Elemental Mastery bonusNoYes: 6 × EM / (EM + 2000)
Stellar Swirl and Stellar Glimmer DMG bonusesNoYes
Enemy Anemo RESYesYes
CRIT Rate and CRIT DMGYesYes

The DEF row is the one to stare at. Against a same-level enemy the DEF multiplier is exactly 0.5 — the arithmetic is in our damage formula guide — so losing it doubles a Spirit Blade before anything else is counted. What she gives up is the DMG Bonus bracket: an Anemo DMG goblet or an "Anemo DMG Bonus" buff does nothing for a Spirit Blade that lands as Stellar Swirl DMG. RES still counts, and because the damage is still Anemo, it is Anemo RES that matters. That one fact decides several of the artifact and team calls below.

It is the same rulebook our Lunar reactions guide lays out for the whole Lunar and Stellar family — CRIT counts, the EM curve is far flatter than classic transformative reactions — applied to one character whose biggest numbers live inside it.

Talent Priority: Skill First

Here is what each talent is worth at level 10:

TalentHitValue at Lv. 10
Elemental SkillSkill DMG, Windborne Sword Lv. 1, Windborne Sword Lv. 2 (plain Anemo)72%, 72%, 108%
Elemental SkillWindborne Sword Lv. 2 Spirit Blade201.6%
Elemental SkillWindborne Sword Lv. 3 Spirit Blades80.64% × 4, then a 282.24% final hit
Elemental SkillWind pinion (each Normal, Charged or Plunging Attack in Armed for Action)18.72%
Elemental BurstSpirit Blades473.76%, 60 Energy, 15s cooldown

Add it up. One Lv. 3 cast is 604.8% in Spirit Blades, so a full Armed for Action window — one Lv. 2 cast plus the maximum three Lv. 3 casts — puts up to 2,016% on Spirit Blades, against 252% for the three plain Skill hits. The Burst is one 473.76% volley every 15 seconds. The Skill talent owns more than four times the Spirit Blade multiplier the Burst does per window.

Level the Elemental Skill first, the Burst second, and Normal Attack last. Her constellations agree: Constellation 3 raises the Skill by three levels and Constellation 5 raises the Burst, the same pattern our Flins build guide reads for his main damage talent.

Ascension and Talent Materials: Fellfrost Peak, Then Sumeru

The Guardian Blade of Drifting Snow, the Version 7.1 normal boss in Fellfrost Peak that drops Vesna's Vagabond's Cracked Armor — and Cryo gems, not Anemo ones.

Crowns3 Crowns of InsightOne per talent taken to 10

Three things to plan around.

Her own boss does not drop her gem. The Guardian Blade's reward table pays Shivada Jade — Cryo — so the fight feeds her armor, and her Vayuda Turquoise comes from the Chimeric Winged Lion instead. The upside is that her boss and her talent-book domain both sit in Fellfrost Peak, so one trip covers both.

Glory is no longer a one-character series. The Philosophies of Glory page now lists two users, the Cryo Traveler and Vesna. If you are building her, Wednesday and Saturday at Relics of the Fallen Grace are working days.

The weekly boss is in Sumeru. Profaned Sprout is the third material from Il Dottore's Trounce Domain in Chatrakam Cave, the same boss that drops Odette's Twisted Withered Branch and Counterfeit Resin, so a Dream Solvent can convert between them. The domain opens after the Archon Quest act "Truth Amongst the Pages of Purana," and talent materials only drop at boss level 70 or higher — the full rules are in our weekly boss guide.

Golden Fern, the Snezhnaya local specialty Vesna needs 168 of to fully ascend.

The Mora bill is the standard one: 420,000 for ascension plus 4,957,500 for three talents to 10, or 5,377,500 in total — the same template our Snezhnaya farming guide worked through for the 7.0 characters.

Weapon: Beyond the Chrysalis Versus a Forged Emberwell

New Bough4-star, event-exclusive, same weapon banner510CRIT DMG 55.1%After her Skill, hits stack Verdant (max 3): ATK +4% and EM +20 per stack; in Radiance: Stellar Glimmer, ATK +6% and Stellar Glimmer DMG +8% per stack. All values double at R5
Emberwell4-star, forgeable510Elemental Mastery 165Triggering any reaction: ATK +16% → +32%. Triggering a Stellar Glimmer reaction: Stellar Glimmer DMG +16% → +32%. Both 12s

Beyond the Chrysalis, Vesna's 5-star sword, whose passive cycles CRIT DMG, Stellar Swirl DMG and Energy.

Beyond the Chrysalis is built around her specifically. Two of its three effects land on the numbers that matter in Radiance — CRIT DMG and a Stellar Swirl DMG bonus — and the third feeds her 60-cost Burst. The whole sequence resets when she swaps out, which suits a character who stays on the field for her Armed for Action window anyway. One open question: the passive triggers on Elemental Skill or Burst use, and the weapon's wiki page does not say whether a Windborne Sword cast — which her own kit text calls a special Elemental Skill — advances the sequence. That changes how often the Stellar Swirl bonus is up, so it is worth checking in the Test Run trial HoYoverse runs alongside her banner before you commit Intertwined Fates.

Emberwell is the no-wish answer. Once you have its diagram from Kuzmichev, the "Kuznets" blacksmith in Snezhnaya, each copy costs 1 Borderland Sword Billet, 50 Rainbowdrop Crystal, 50 White Iron Chunk and 500 Mora, and refining it takes more forged copies, not pulls. Its Elemental Mastery secondary is not dead weight on her: EM feeds the Stellar Swirl bracket directly, and 165 EM on its own is a 45.7% bonus by the 6 × EM / (EM + 2000) curve. The catch is in the wording — its Stellar Glimmer bonus needs her to trigger the reaction, which she does when her Anemo hits a Cryo-affected target, not when a Spirit Blade merely deals Stellar Swirl DMG.

Emberwell, the forgeable 4-star Snezhnaya sword whose Elemental Mastery and Stellar Glimmer bonus both feed Vesna's Stellar Swirl damage.

New Bough sits between them: a CRIT DMG stat stick that turns into an ATK and Stellar Glimmer DMG buff in Radiance, but it is event-exclusive and only drops from the same weapon banner as her signature.

Artifacts: Scarlet Proof on Her, Heart of the Furnace on a Teammate

Three sets are in the conversation, and two of them come out of the same Snezhnaya domain, Inverted Glacier in Everfrozen Earth.

Set2-piece4-pieceWhere it belongs
Scarlet ProofATK +18%The wearer gains CRIT Rate +16% and Stellar Swirl DMG +40% for 10s after triggering Stellar SwirlVesna — the bonus is wearer-only, and she is the one on the field triggering it
Heart of the FurnaceATK +18%For 12s after the wearer triggers a Stellar Glimmer reaction or deals Stellar Glimmer DMG: wearer ATK +12% and Stellar Glimmer DMG +50% for all nearby party members. Works off-field; the DMG bonus from two copies does not stackOne copy per team, on a teammate who triggers Stellar Swirl themselves
Viridescent VenererAnemo DMG +15%Swirl DMG +60%, Stellar Swirl DMG +20%; cuts the swirled element's RES by 40%, and Cryo RES by 40% on a Stellar SwirlA support; its RES cuts land on the swirled element (Cryo, in her team), and her Radiance hits are Anemo

Heart of the Furnace carries the biggest number, and that 50% reaches the whole party and works off-field — but it is not always on. HoYoverse's English 7.0 notes put the 50% in its own sentence yet say "the above effects can trigger," and the Chinese text of the same notes places both bonuses inside the 12 seconds after the wearer triggers a Stellar Glimmer reaction or deals Stellar Glimmer DMG. So it belongs on a teammate who sets off Stellar Swirl themselves, in practice another Anemo character swirling the Cryo, such as Faruzan. A Cryo applier lays down the aura rather than triggering the Swirl, and nothing in the set's text says that switches it on. With the set on a teammate, Vesna's slots are free for Scarlet Proof, whose 40% and 16% CRIT Rate only ever reach the wearer; if no teammate triggers Stellar Swirl, the set only switches on in her own hands. Viridescent Venerer reads well on paper and less well on her: its 2-piece Anemo DMG Bonus never reaches a Radiance Spirit Blade, its RES cuts land on the swirled element rather than on Anemo, and its 20% Stellar Swirl bonus is half of Scarlet Proof's 40% in the same bracket. The general rules for farming a set efficiently are in our artifact guide.

Main Stats and the 2,000 ATK Line

  • Sands: ATK%.
  • Goblet: ATK% rather than Anemo DMG% on any team that keeps Radiance up, because the DMG Bonus bracket never reaches the Spirit Blades that make up most of her Skill multipliers. An Anemo DMG goblet only earns its slot on a team with no Cryo applier, where she is an ordinary Anemo carry.
  • Circlet: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG, balanced against her 19.2% CRIT Rate ascension stat and her weapon — Beyond the Chrysalis and New Bough both bring CRIT DMG.
  • Substats: ATK and CRIT first, with Elemental Mastery a real stat for her rather than filler, since it feeds the Stellar Swirl bracket.

ATK matters twice: for her own hits, and for Splendid Prelude's party-wide Stellar Swirl bonus, which caps at 2,000 ATK. A level 90 Vesna has 353.98 base ATK; with Beyond the Chrysalis's 674 that is 1,027.98. Add an ATK% Sands (46.6%), the 18% ATK two-piece from either Snezhnaya set and a maxed 311 ATK Plume, and she sits at 1,027.98 × 1.646 + 311 = 2,003 ATK before a single substat. Past that line, more ATK still raises her own damage but no longer raises the party bonus.

Constellations: C1 Changes the Window, C6 Is the Ceiling

Con.NameEffect
C1Winter's Farewell FeastFour Lv. 3 Windborne Sword casts per Armed for Action instead of three; the first Lv. 3 cast each time costs no Sword Essence; +20% Stellar Swirl DMG while in Armed for Action
C2Kolo of Spring's ArrivalEntering Armed for Action grants all 6 Disciplinary Action stacks; +40% ATK at maximum stacks
C3Winter's Last OfferingElemental Skill +3 levels (max 15)
C4Glory to Our ForebearsTruth Prevails triples: 18% ATK per Cryo or Anemo party member, 75 EM per other
C5The Nobleborn's ChargeElemental Burst +3 levels (max 15)
C6Unwavering ArdorTapping Normal Attack or Skill within 5s of a top-level Windborne Sword unleashes Windborne Sword: Transpose (150% ATK, plus Spirit Blades at 200% ATK); her Stellar Swirl DMG is Elevated by 20%

C1 is the one that changes the rotation rather than just the totals: a fourth Lv. 3 cast is another 604.8% of Spirit Blades at talent level 10, and the free first cast eases the Sword Essence squeeze. C2 removes the ramp, putting every early Spirit Blade at the 160% ceiling instead of building up to it. C6 is the ceiling — Elevation is its own multiplier bracket, the rare one our damage formula guide flags as separate from ordinary DMG Bonus.

Team Comp: No Cryo, No Radiance

Three requirements fall straight out of the kit:

  1. A Cryo applier. This is the non-negotiable slot. Without Cryo on the target, her Anemo hits cannot trigger Stellar Swirl and Radiance never starts.
  2. Fill the rest against Truth Prevails. In Radiance, every Cryo or Anemo teammate is worth 6% ATK to her, and every other element is worth 25 EM. Neither is wrong; it is a trade.
  3. Anemo RES shred over Anemo DMG Bonus. Her Radiance hits ignore DMG Bonus but not RES, so a cut to enemy Anemo RES reaches every Spirit Blade and an Anemo DMG buff reaches none of them.

With those rules, the names on her own patch sort themselves:

  • Diona, Chongyun and Faruzan are the three 4-stars on Vesna's banner, and HoYoverse's wish notice lists two of them as Cryo. Faruzan's Burst cuts enemy Anemo RES by 30% and grants an Anemo DMG Bonus — the first half reaches her Spirit Blades, the second only her plain hits. Diona's Witch's Revelation Passive, once her Revelation quest is done, fires three extra Icy Paws when the party triggers Cryo Swirl or Stellar Swirl within 20 seconds of her Skill (once every 3.5 seconds), and under Revelation her Constellation 6 adds 40% Cryo Swirl and Stellar Swirl DMG inside her Burst field.
  • Qiqi is one of the eight choices in the free "Across the Frozen Wilds, Honing One's Edge" anniversary selector, open until November 3, 2026. She is Cryo, and her Witch's Revelation Passive — unlocked by her Revelation quest, which needs her at level 70 — raises her party's Cryo Swirl and Stellar Swirl DMG by 50% while her Herald of Frost is on the field and she is in Radiance: Stellar Swirl herself, which a nearby Stellar Swirl grants her for 8 seconds.
  • Vodyanitsa is Hydro, so Truth Prevails counts her as an EM slot, but her 1st Ascension Passive is aimed straight at Vesna's damage type: it turns Stellar Vortices into Wandering Vortices that cut nearby enemies' Anemo RES by 35% for 6 seconds, and extends Radiance: Stellar Swirl by 4 seconds for anyone who enters it while her Song of Ages Past is active. Her full build is in our Vodyanitsa build guide.

Where Version 7.1 Is Scheduled to Test Her

HoYoverse's Version 7.1 update notes lay out the version's endgame calendar in advance, and Stellar Swirl runs through it:

DateModeWhat is scheduled
October 1, 2026Imaginarium TheaterRequired elements: Hydro, Cryo and Anemo
October 16, 2026Spiral AbyssFloor 12 first half: Stellar Glimmer DMG +75%. Blessing "Stardread Moon": triggering Cryo Swirl, Stellar Swirl or several other Cryo reactions, or dealing Stellar Swirl DMG, releases a True DMG shockwave, once every 2s
November 1, 2026Imaginarium TheaterVesna is a Special Guest Star, exempt from the element requirement

The October 16 Abyss also gives Floor 11 a 60% Anemo DMG Bonus disorder. By the formula above, that reaches her plain hits and not her Radiance Spirit Blades — the Floor 12 Stellar Glimmer bonus is the one aimed at them. Our Spiral Abyss guide and Imaginarium Theater guide cover how both modes pay out.

Quick Action Checklist

  • Vesna is an on-field Anemo sword DPS whose Spirit Blades deal Stellar Swirl DMG while she is in Radiance: Stellar Swirl, which lasts 8 seconds after a nearby party member triggers Stellar Swirl.
  • She converts party Cryo Swirl into Stellar Swirl herself, but not Superconduct. She still needs someone else to put Cryo on the target.
  • Radiance Spirit Blades skip the enemy DEF multiplier (worth 2x against a same-level enemy) and the DMG Bonus bracket, while EM, Stellar Swirl DMG bonuses, CRIT and Anemo RES all still count.
  • Level the Elemental Skill first: a full Armed for Action window puts up to 2,016% on Spirit Blades at talent level 10, against 473.76% for one Burst.
  • Farm Fellfrost Peak for Vagabond's Cracked Armor and Glory books (Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday), the Chimeric Winged Lion for Vayuda Turquoise, and Il Dottore in Sumeru for Profaned Sprout.
  • Beyond the Chrysalis is her signature 5-star; Emberwell is the forgeable 4-star whose EM and Stellar Glimmer bonus both feed her Stellar Swirl hits.
  • Wear 4-piece Scarlet Proof on her and put Heart of the Furnace on a teammate who triggers Stellar Swirl themselves — its 50% party bonus runs for 12 seconds after the wearer triggers or deals Stellar Glimmer DMG. Use an ATK% goblet, not Anemo DMG%, on a Radiance team.
  • Reach 2,000 ATK to cap Splendid Prelude's 14% party Stellar Swirl bonus — Beyond the Chrysalis, an ATK% Sands, a Snezhnaya two-piece and a Plume get her there before substats.
  • Prefer Anemo RES shred (Faruzan's Burst, Vodyanitsa's Wandering Vortex) over Anemo DMG Bonus buffs for her Radiance hits.
  • Qiqi from the free anniversary selector, with her Witch's Revelation quest done, adds 50% Stellar Swirl DMG while Herald of Frost is out and she is in Radiance: Stellar Swirl.

Frequently Asked Questions

What talent should you level first for Vesna?
Level Vesna's Elemental Skill, The Art of Victory, first. At talent level 10 a full Armed for Action window puts up to 2,016% on Spirit Blades — 201.6% from one Windborne Sword Lv. 2 cast and 604.8% from each of up to three Lv. 3 casts — while her Elemental Burst, For the Tsaritsa!, deals 473.76% once every 15 seconds. Level the Burst second and Normal Attack last; Constellation 3 raising the Skill before Constellation 5 raises the Burst follows the same order.
Is Vesna a Stellar Swirl enabler in Genshin Impact?
Yes. Vesna's Stellar Jubilee Passive, Splendid Prelude, converts any Cryo Swirl triggered by the party into Stellar Swirl and raises the party's Stellar Swirl Base DMG by 0.7% per 100 of her ATK, up to 14% at 2,000 ATK. HoYoverse's Version 7.1 update notes describe her as enabling her party to trigger Stellar Swirl reactions. Unlike Sandrone, Odette and the Cryo Traveler, her passive does not convert Superconduct into Stellar-Conduct.
What artifacts should Vesna use?
Four-piece Scarlet Proof on Vesna herself: it gives the wearer 16% CRIT Rate and 40% Stellar Swirl DMG for 10 seconds after she triggers Stellar Swirl, which she does as the on-field Anemo character. Heart of the Furnace's four-piece raises the whole party's Stellar Glimmer DMG by 50% for 12 seconds after its wearer triggers a Stellar Glimmer reaction or deals Stellar Glimmer DMG, works off-field and does not stack, so it is better placed on a teammate who triggers Stellar Swirl themselves, such as an off-field Anemo character swirling the Cryo. Both sets drop from the Inverted Glacier domain in Snezhnaya. Use an ATK% Sands, an ATK% Goblet on a team that keeps Radiance: Stellar Swirl up, and a CRIT Circlet.
What is the best weapon for Vesna in Genshin Impact?
Vesna's signature weapon is Beyond the Chrysalis, a 5-star sword with 674 base ATK and a 44.1% CRIT DMG secondary stat whose passive cycles CRIT DMG, Stellar Swirl DMG and Energy each time she uses her Skill or Burst. It is featured on the Epitome Invocation weapon banner running September 23 to October 13, 2026. The free alternative is Emberwell, a forgeable 4-star sword with 165 Elemental Mastery that raises her ATK after any reaction and her Stellar Glimmer DMG after she triggers a Stellar Glimmer reaction, both by 16% at R1 and 32% at R5.
What materials does Vesna need to ascend?
Vesna needs 46 Vagabond's Cracked Armor from the Guardian Blade of Drifting Snow in Fellfrost Peak, 1 Sliver, 9 Fragments, 9 Chunks and 6 Gemstones of Vayuda Turquoise (the Chimeric Winged Lion drops them; her own boss drops Cryo gems), 168 Golden Fern, and Ethereal Glimmershard-family drops from Snowland Fae. Her talents use Teachings, Guide and Philosophies of Glory from Relics of the Fallen Grace on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, plus 18 Profaned Sprout from Il Dottore's weekly boss in Sumeru. Ascension and three talents to level 10 cost 5,377,500 Mora.
Why aren't Vesna's Spirit Blades dealing Stellar Swirl DMG?
Vesna's Spirit Blades only deal Stellar Swirl DMG while she is in the Radiance: Stellar Swirl state, which lasts 8 seconds after a nearby party member triggers Stellar Swirl. Stellar Swirl needs Anemo to hit a Cryo-affected target, so unless the target already carries Cryo — in practice, applied by a Cryo teammate — her Anemo hits cannot trigger it, Radiance never starts, and the Spirit Blades stay ordinary Anemo DMG.
