Roblox RDC 2026: What Was Announced and When It Ships
RDC 2026's biggest line wasn't in the press release: Roblox will transition away from DevEx in the US in mid-2027, with Roblox Wallet rolling out from December. Here are the announcements from Roblox's own RDC posts, sorted by the ship date Roblox attached to each, plus the three dates its own posts disagree on and the full Innovation Awards winners list.

The most consequential sentence of RDC 2026 is not in Roblox's investor press release. It is not in David Baszucki's RDC post on the Roblox Newsroom, and it is not in the "What We Announced" recap thread Roblox posted to its Developer Forum either. It sits in the separate DevForum announcement for a new payments product, under a heading called "Our Plans for DevEx":
"We'll transition away from DevEx in mid-2027 in the US."
DevEx, the Developer Exchange, is the program that has turned earned Robux into real money since 2013 — more than $5 billion of it, by Roblox's count. It now has a US end date, and the thing replacing it starts rolling out in December.
That is one line out of dozens. Roblox's own recap thread describes "dozens of new creator tools covering publishing, payments, engine, and avatar," and across that thread, the Newsroom post and the press release, the ship windows run from "newly released" to "Mid 2027." This recap sorts the announcements by the date Roblox actually attached to each one, and pulls in the fine print from the individual DevForum threads that the headline posts leave out.

RDC 2026 in one paragraph
RDC 2026 ran September 10–12, 2026, in San Jose, California. Roblox's press release calls it the 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference and an invite-only event for developers, artists, brands and influencers; this year it doubled as the platform's 20th-anniversary celebration. The keynote announcements landed on September 11, and the conference closed on September 12 with the 2026 Roblox Innovation Awards. Roblox also said in its recap thread that what it revealed was "just a portion of the roadmap," with a full list of updates to follow the week after.
The numbers Roblox opened with
Roblox opened with a scoreboard. These are the figures Roblox published alongside the announcements, with the period each one covers — worth having in one place, because the Newsroom post and the DevForum recap each carry a different subset.
| Metric | Figure | Period / source |
|---|---|---|
| Average daily users | 123 million, up 10% year over year | Quarter ended June 30, 2026 (DevForum recap) |
| Hours spent on Roblox | 29 billion | Same quarter (Newsroom) |
| Countries | More than 180 | Newsroom |
| Game visits | Up 55% year over year | Twelve months ended June 30, 2026 (DevForum recap) |
| Creator earnings through DevEx | About $1.7 billion | Past 12 months (Newsroom, data through June 30, 2026) |
| DevEx earnings since 2013 | More than $5 billion | Newsroom |
| Roblox Plus creator incentives | More than 300 million Robux | Plus's first four months, data through August 17, 2026 (Newsroom) |
| New games in the top 100 by hours | 28% launched in the preceding 90 days | August 2026 (DevForum recap) |
| New games in the top 1,000 by hours | 33% launched in the preceding 90 days | August 2026 (DevForum recap) |
The last two rows are the ones a small developer should care about: Roblox is making the case that the charts are not closed to new games. Hold that thought for the publishing section.
What ships when
This is the table the headline posts do not give you. Each row is an announcement from Roblox's RDC posts, with the timing Roblox itself stated. "Now" means Roblox described it as live or released on September 11.

Thirty-nine rows, and six of them are something Roblox described as live on keynote day. The rest is why "Roblox announced X" and "Roblox shipped X" are different sentences.
Roblox Wallet, and the DevEx end date
The Newsroom gives Roblox Wallet a short paragraph — once a creator opens one, earnings "are paid out every business day in real currency as holds clear." The DevForum announcement, Introducing Roblox Wallet and Card: Get Paid Faster, is where the operational detail lives:
- Who and when. Starting December 2026, eligible US-based independent creators (sole proprietors) aged 18 and older receive a notification when they are invited to apply. It is opt-in at launch: your earnings stay in Robux unless you apply and are approved.
- Setup. An application with identity verification, then mandatory 2FA and tax forms if approved. The account is provided through Roblox's financial partner, which the Newsroom footnote names as Airwallex US.
- Payouts. Earnings arrive in USD "at the same DevEx rates as today," paid into the Wallet every business day once a transaction clears a hold period of up to thirty days that varies by transaction. There is no request to submit and no monthly DevEx cooldown.
- Buying Robux back. Wallet holders can purchase Robux at $0.0038 per Robux — Roblox's own examples are 10,000 Robux for $38 and 30,000 Robux for $114, plus tax where applicable — so you can pay publishing fees or test your game "without having to 'buy back in' at the retail Robux rate." Wallet funds can also pay for ads directly.
- Roblox Card. Rolls out in select markets in 2027 and spends only the Wallet balance. Roblox's FAQ is explicit that it is not a credit card: "there is no line of credit or loan."
- DevEx. "We'll transition away from DevEx in mid-2027 in the US. DevEx will remain longer in other regions." Roblox says it will publish a per-region DevEx end date once Wallet is fully rolled out there, with "plenty of notice."

If you have read our DevEx and monetization guide, note which part of the math survives: the exchange rate is the same $0.0038. What changes is the plumbing — daily, automatic, in dollars — and, eventually, the program name.
What Wallet does not change
Three things the announcement protects, all straight from its own text. Robux you earned before opening a Wallet "stays in your account and is still eligible for DevEx." Groups keep earning in Robux until group-owned wallets arrive in 2027, and can keep paying collaborators in Robux; a collaborator with a Wallet receives USD at the correct rate instead. And refundable platform fees, like marketplace publishing, are still paid in Robux.
The US-first rollout is the part to plan around. Wallet starts with 18+ sole proprietors in the US; 13+ creators with parental consent, incorporated businesses, groups and international regions are all listed under 2027.
Publishing: the bar drops to 100
The quieter headline for anyone who has not shipped a game yet is in a separate thread, Making Publishing Easier: Our Vision and What's Coming. It opens by conceding that "publishing your game has gotten more complicated this year," then lists the fixes with dates — the September 11 and September 2026 rows in the table above, plus one November change that matters more than the rest. The table's last row: lower the Highly Engaged Player threshold for Roblox Kids & Select from 250 to 100, in November 2026.
That number is the default gate between a new game and players under 16. Under Roblox's Kids and Select rules, a newly published game goes through a trial phase where it is available only to age-checked users 16 and older. It becomes eligible for Roblox Kids (ages 5–8) and Roblox Select (ages 9–15) audiences once it reaches the threshold — currently 250 unique plays by highly engaged, age-checked users within a 60-day window — and passes a safety review. You track progress on the Audience Reach tab in Creator Hub.
The threshold has been moving fast, and the history shows the direction:
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| July 6, 2026 | Definition of a Highly Engaged Player relaxed; Roblox says this raised new games entering the catalog by 33% |
| July 16, 2026 | Maintenance bar for games already in the catalog cut from 100 to 25 Highly Engaged Players |
| August 19, 2026 | Entry threshold halved from 500 to 250 |
| November 2026 | Entry threshold cut from 250 to 100 (announced at RDC) |
From 500 to 100 is an 80% cut to the entry bar in roughly three months. For a small game, that is a far lower number to reach inside a 60-day window.
Reaching all ages still carries its other requirements: a verified creator account (facial age estimation under 18, government ID at 18 and over), 2-Step Verification, and either a one-time refundable per-game fee or a Roblox Plus or Premium subscription held for two consecutive months. If you need a guaranteed date instead of waiting on the threshold, the expedited review now costs a refundable 50,000 Robux per game, down from 100,000.
What counts as a highly engaged player
Roblox's Kids and Select documentation defines it as a user who meets requirements on account tenure, playtime in your game, and platform spend — where platform spend means a minimum purchase "anywhere on Roblox in the last 60 days," not in your game. Your game does not need to be monetized for players to count. The spend requirement is the anti-bot measure: Roblox says it creates "a real cost to abuse and makes it much harder for bad actors to generate fake engagement at scale."
For players: a link becomes a play button
Most of RDC is creator plumbing, but these announcements change what playing Roblox looks like.
Web play. By the end of 2026, players will be able to join a game in-browser on Chrome (more browsers to follow) from its Experience Details Page, no install required. The Newsroom's framing is the point: a link in search, YouTube, X or an email becomes a direct path to playing. If this ships as described, it removes the install step between a video and a player.
Standalone apps. Under the "Roblox Everywhere" banner, creators will be able to publish their games as standalone apps across mobile, PC and consoles, with Roblox running the technology underneath. Roblox gave this one no date beyond "soon."

Offline play. Creators will be able to combine an offline solo mode with a live multiplayer mode in the same game. Full availability is dated mid-2027, with early access "coming soon."
Chat and social. The new Friends chat tab follows players across games so a group can coordinate a move into a new game together, and voice typing — speaking instead of typing — was described as newly released. Later this year, creators can add Quick Words, pre-set phrases like "start your engines" that Roblox reviews for policy compliance up front so players of all ages can use them.
Pre-roll ads. Short, skippable, mobile-first video ads that run while a game loads, with Roblox handling delivery and sharing the revenue and no code required from the creator. Roblox's recap states that Roblox Plus subscribers won't see pre-roll ads — one more perk for the subscription whose private-server rules change on September 24.
For builders: 2D, AI scenes, branches and terrain
The engine and Studio announcements touch a lot of ground this vertical's developer guides cover, so here is where each one lands.
AI creation. Build, the prompt-to-game tab in the Roblox app, launched in alpha in New Zealand this summer; Roblox says creators have used it to publish about 9,000 games, and that 71% of the thousands who made a game with it had never used Studio. The public alpha now expands to Serbia and Singapore, and Roblox gave every creator at the conference access. Scene Generator, due later this year in both Build and Studio, takes a text prompt and a reference image and returns "a fully functional layout" to refine. NPC Dynamic Behavior (late 2026) lets you define NPC behavior through prompts in Studio and reuse it across NPCs; the press release adds that NPCs will gain two new behaviors by year-end, "including NPCs that playtest."
2D games. A new orthographic camera, animated image containers and direct sprite-sheet import, all dated late 2026 — Roblox's pitch is 2D and puzzle genres it says it "hadn't fully unlocked." The orthographic camera would sit alongside the CFrame and FieldOfView work in our camera manipulation guide, and the UI additions (blur, text shadows, improved gradients) extend the toolkit in our UI design basics guide.

Physics and rendering. A new algorithm that auto-generates better collision geometry, with a real-time debug overlay and controls for the performance-versus-precision tradeoff — relevant to everything in our collision and physics guide. New Cone, Capsule and Disc primitives, plus rounding for existing part shapes. And a minimum draw distance of 500 studs; Roblox says even a low-end Android device at quality level 1 will get "more than double today's draw distance of 200." All late 2026.
Studio workflow. Branch and Merge (early 2027) lets collaborators spin up isolated place branches, with a guided merge that resolves conflicts "at the property and script-line level." Test Teleports (early 2027) lets you teleport between places inside Studio — until it ships, the rule in our TeleportService guide stands: teleports have to be tested in a published game. In-game creation persistence (early 2027) saves assets players build, "similar to how game data can be saved to a data store," which is a new neighbour for the patterns in our DataStore guide.
Terrain. The terrain thread lists a scattering system for painting huge numbers of meshes (custom grass included), path splines that reshape terrain and foliage as you move control points, projected decals, virtual texturing, and signed distance fields to remove the "staircase" artifacts at voxel edges. Our Terrain Editor guide covers the tools that exist today; none of these new ones has a general release date beyond the recap's Mid 2027.
Avatars and animation. Silhouette-preserving layered clothing and a new default movement system with motion matching and root motion (both early 2027), then Animation Graph state machine nodes and Luau expressions (mid 2027). If you have swapped the default Animate script as our animation guide describes, the new default movement is the change to watch.
Three dates Roblox disagrees with itself on
Cross-reading the headline recap against the individual threads turns up three timing conflicts. If you are scheduling around a feature, plan for the later date.
| Feature | Date in the "What We Announced" recap | Date in the dedicated thread |
|---|---|---|
| Early testing with up to 10 age-checked friends | Late 2026 | September 2026 (Making Publishing Easier) |
| Terrain scattering, path splines, projected decals | Mid 2027 | Early access aimed at "late Fall/Winter of this year" (Terrain Updates thread) |
| Emissives for UGC avatars and items | Late 2026 — while the same entry says "You can now sell emissive items on Marketplace" | Full release to all eligible Marketplace creators on September 2, 2026 (Create and Sell Emissive Items thread) |
The terrain gap is probably early access versus general release, and the emissive entry probably covers more than Marketplace selling — but neither post says so, so treat those as readings, not facts.
The 2026 Roblox Innovation Awards winners
The conference closed on September 12 with the Roblox Innovation Awards, which Roblox bills as "chosen by the community." The Newsroom announcement lists 20 awards. Animal Hospital by Animal Anomaly took four of them, including the Builderman Award, and Nosniy Games won two: Best Shooter for RIVALS and Best Studio.

Several winners already anchor our genre lists: RIVALS in the best Roblox FPS games, DOORS in the best horror games, 99 Nights in the Forest and Natural Disaster Survival in the best survival games, Jujutsu Shenanigans in the best fighting games and FIFA Super Soccer in the best sports games. The same awards post announced The Hunt: Roblox 20, an anniversary event starting September 17.
What to do with this right now
If you cash out through DevEx in the US: the Wallet rollout starts in December, Wallet is opt-in at launch, and Roblox says DevEx remains available through mid-2027 in the US. Roblox says eligible creators will get a notification when invited to apply — that notification is your cue, not the keynote.
If you are publishing a new game: it starts 16+ only. The Audience Reach tab tells you how far you are from the Kids & Select threshold, and from November that threshold is 100 highly engaged players instead of 250. If your game targets under-16 players, the November change is the date to circle.
If you build turn-based or async games: push notifications for opted-in players enter Studio Beta in October, ahead of the late-2026 2D tools.
If you were waiting on Studio teleport testing, 2D, or terrain splines: they are dated late 2026 to 2027. Build with the tools that exist now — these posts give no deprecation date for any current API.
Quick Action Checklist
- Note the DevEx line: Roblox will "transition away from DevEx in mid-2027 in the US"; other regions get their own end dates later
- US creator, 18+, sole proprietor? Watch for the Roblox Wallet invitation starting December 2026 — it is opt-in
- Remember Wallet pays at the same $0.0038-per-Robux rate as DevEx, after a hold of up to 30 days, and lets you buy Robux back at that rate
- Groups keep earning Robux until group wallets arrive in 2027
- New games start 16+ only; check the Audience Reach tab for Kids & Select progress
- Plan for the Highly Engaged Player threshold dropping from 250 to 100 in November 2026
- Budget 50,000 refundable Robux, not 100,000, if you need an expedited Kids & Select review
- Don't schedule around RDC features by the recap post alone — early testing, terrain and emissives each carry two different dates
- Test teleports in a published game until Studio's Test Teleports ships (early 2027)
