Breath of the Wild Kilton: Shop Locations, Mon and Masks
Kilton pays 3 Mon for a Bokoblin Horn, exactly what a shop pays in rupees, and 100 Mon for a Lynel Guts a shop buys for 200. Here is where the Fang and Bone opens, the full Mon exchange table, all twelve wares and their Divine Beast unlocks, and what the masks, the Dark set and Monster Extract actually do.

Kilton pays 3 Mon for a Bokoblin Horn. A general store pays 3 rupees for the same horn. He pays 100 Mon for a Lynel Guts that the same store buys for 200, and 2 Mon for an Ancient Screw it buys for 12. Mon is the only currency in Breath of the Wild that you mint out of monster parts, and Zelda Wiki's exchange table lists 50 parts Kilton will take. Not one of them is worth more to him in Mon than it is to a shop in rupees.
That exchange rate is the whole game at the Fang and Bone. This guide covers where the shop opens, the full Mon table, all twelve wares and which Divine Beast unlocks each one, what the masks, the Dark set and Monster Extract actually do, and which parts to hand over so the trade costs you the least.
Kilton starts at Skull Lake, and only at night
The Fang and Bone first turns up at Skull Lake in Deep Akkala, the lake shaped like a skull when you see it from above, and only at night. Several people mention Kilton. Kaifa at South Akkala Stable repeats the rumours, and Jerrin at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, sending you to Zuna Kai Shrine on Skull Lake's left eye, warns that if you run into Kilton you are on the wrong eye. Two more are worth knowing:
- Chabi, a traveller you can rescue from Bokoblins at her camps, tells you her most reliable tip for meeting Kilton is a skull-shaped lake out near Akkala.
- Hoz, a mercenary guarding East Akkala Stable, has heard about a suspicious man called Kilton who pushes a cart around night after night, but not where to find him. That conversation is the side quest "A Shady Customer", covered further down.
Do not expect to shop on that first visit. Per Zelda Wiki's Kilton entry, he is still preparing for his grand opening: he shows you his only business card (and asks for it back), lists the villages he is thinking of visiting, and leaves. Skull Lake's own page says he moves on after that first meeting. The second time you find him, somewhere else, the shop is open.
If you want a warp point there, Zuna Kai Shrine sits on top of the tall pillar Zelda Wiki calls the Left Eye of Skull Lake; the shrine guide lists it among the blessing shrines.
The seven spots where the Fang and Bone opens

After that introduction, the shop appears near every major settlement except Goron City, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Zelda Wiki and the Fandom Zelda wiki give the same seven spots:
| Where the shop sets up | Region | Nearest landmark |
|---|---|---|
| Underneath the bridge to Tarrey Town | Akkala Highlands | Lake Akkala and Tarrey Town |
| The High Ground, behind the Village Chief's House | East Necluda | Hateno Village's Ancient Furnace |
| Korne Beach | East Necluda | The Necluda Sea coast |
| Among ruins west of Gerudo Town | Gerudo Desert | The West Barrens |
| South of the Hebra Trailhead Lodge | Hebra Mountains | The lodge, at the south end of Rospro Pass |
| Southeast of Veiled Falls | Lanayru Great Spring | Veiled Falls |
| Above Lantern Lake | West Necluda | Lantern Lake |
Each spot carries a sign reading "Fang and Bone (only open at night)", and Zelda Wiki's Korne Beach page notes that during the day the sign stands there without Kilton. So a signpost with no shop is not a bug. Come back after 9:00 PM.
Two practical notes. Kilton's farewell at Skull Lake names Kakariko, Hateno, Rito Village, Zora's Domain, Gerudo Town, Lurelin and Lake Akkala as the places he might go next. And the Hebra spot is cold country: Zelda Wiki says the Hebra Trailhead Lodge itself sits in a freezing climate that wants two levels of Cold Resistance.
Mon never pays more than a shop does
Kilton turns monster parts into Mon, and his is the only business in Hyrule that accepts it. Zelda Wiki's Monster Part page and the Fandom wiki's Mon page give the same value for all 50 parts he buys, and the pattern is blunt: five parts trade one-for-one, and every other part is worth less to Kilton than to a shop. Lynel, Molduga, Hinox and Bokoblin Guts, both Ancient Cores and the dragon horn shards trade at exactly half; Moblin Guts and the other dragon parts do slightly worse.
The full exchange table
Sorted by how much of a part's shop value survives the exchange, percentages rounded. Dragon parts share one value per type across all three dragons, and the elemental Keese wings, Chuchu jellies and Lizalfos tails each share one value, so they are grouped.

What to pay him with
One of every item on Kilton's shelf except the Monster Extract comes to 6,509 Mon, and twenty Monster Extracts add another 180. How much that really costs depends entirely on what you hand over:
- In the five one-for-one parts, 6,509 Mon costs exactly 6,509 rupees of shop value. That is as cheap as Mon gets, so this is the trade to make.
- In Lynel Guts, the same catalogue is 66 Guts: 13,200 rupees at a shop. Worse, a Lynel Guts is worth far more than 200 cooked. Four of them and an Energetic Rhino Beetle make one elixir that sells for 2,330 rupees by the formula Zelda Wiki publishes, which the rupee farming guide works through. Kilton gives you 400 Mon for those four Guts.
- Never in Ancient Screws or Octo Balloons. They keep 17% and 20% of their value. Ancient parts also pay for Cherry's gear at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, which the Guardian guide prices out.
One caution on the Keese wings. The elemental ones are also armor currency: Zelda Wiki's upgrade table has the Climbing set asking for 5 Electric, then 5 Ice, then 5 Fire Keese Wings per piece at its second, third and fourth stars, the Desert Voe set wants 3 and then 8 Ice Keese Wings per piece at its second and third stars, and the Snowquill set wants 8 Fire Keese Wings per piece at three stars. Bank what the Great Fairy guide's bills call for, then feed Kilton the rest.
Twelve wares, unlocked one Divine Beast at a time
Per both wikis, the stock grows each time you free a Divine Beast.
| Ware | Price | Available after | In stock | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monster Extract | 9 Mon | Opening | 20 | Cooking ingredient that randomizes a dish |
| Wooden Mop | 19 Mon | Opening | 1 | 5 attack, 8 durability |
| Bokoblin Mask | 99 Mon | Opening | 1 | Disguise among Bokoblins |
| Spring-Loaded Hammer | 199 Mon | One Divine Beast | 1 | 1 attack, 80 durability, launches enemies |
| Moblin Mask | 199 Mon | One Divine Beast | 1 | Disguise among Moblins |
| Lizalfos Mask | 299 Mon | Two Divine Beasts | 1 | Disguise among Lizalfos |
| Monster Bridle | 399 Mon | Two Divine Beasts | 1 | Cosmetic horse gear |
| Monster Saddle | 299 Mon | Two Divine Beasts | 1 | Cosmetic horse gear |
| Lynel Mask | 999 Mon | Three Divine Beasts | 1 | Temporary disguise among Lynels |
| Dark Hood | 1,999 Mon | Four Divine Beasts | 1 | Dark set, 3 defense |
| Dark Tunic | 999 Mon | Four Divine Beasts | 1 | Dark set, 3 defense |
| Dark Trousers | 999 Mon | Four Divine Beasts | 1 | Dark set, 3 defense |
None of Kilton's armor can be enhanced by a Great Fairy or dyed at the Kochi Dye Shop, according to each piece's Zelda Wiki page. What you buy is exactly what you get.
The masks are a disguise, not invisibility

Each mask is 3 defense and one Disguise effect. Zelda Wiki's Disguise page, citing Piggyback's guide, spells out which enemies each one fools, and three of the four also cover the skeletal Stal version of their species:
| Mask | Mon | Fools | Sells back for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bokoblin Mask | 99 | Bokoblins and Stalkoblins | 9 rupees |
| Moblin Mask | 199 | Moblins and Stalmoblins | 19 rupees |
| Lizalfos Mask | 299 | Lizalfos and Stalizalfos | 29 rupees |
| Lynel Mask | 999 | Lynels, for a short time | 39 rupees |
The rules that decide whether a disguise holds:
- Fooled enemies leave you alone unless you attack first. Hit one and it fights back.
- They come over and study you. Disguised enemies follow you around, which Zelda Wiki notes makes a sneakstrike hard to line up. The mask is for walking through a camp, not for assassinating it; the combat tips cover the sneakstrike route.
- One mask covers one species. If anything the mask does not fool starts attacking you, the fooled enemies see through the disguise and join in. A Bokoblin Mask in a camp with a Moblin in it is a costume, not a plan.
- Lynels always catch on. A Lynel attacks after a short time, or sooner if you swing a weapon or raise the Camera. The Lynel guide covers where the mask fits into the fights themselves.

If you own The Master Trials, there is a fifth option. Majora's Mask, from a hidden chest at the Kolomo Garrison Ruins, combines the Bokoblin, Moblin, Lizalfos and Lynel disguises in one 1-defense slot, Lynel time limit included. It is on the Master Mode guide's list of the pack's EX treasures, and if you have it early it makes the four Kilton masks close to redundant.
The Dark set is 3,997 Mon for a bonus Kakariko sells

The Dark Hood, Dark Tunic and Dark Trousers unlock once all four Divine Beasts are free: 1,999 + 999 + 999 = 3,997 Mon, the most expensive thing in the shop. Zelda Wiki describes the tunic as a straight colour-swap of the Tunic of Time. Each piece is 3 defense, so the set is 9 in total, and each one sells back for 9 rupees.
Wear all three and you get Night Speed Up. Zelda Wiki's entry gives the exact terms: between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM in-game, Link runs 20% faster, the same as a level-two Speed Up effect. It does nothing for climbing or swimming, and it stacks with a level-one Speed Up. Townsfolk also get frightened when they see you in it, and Kilton himself has a line about it.
Now compare the other way to get that bonus:
| Dark set | Stealth set at ★★ | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Fang and Bone | Enchanted, Kakariko Village |
| Price | 3,997 Mon | 1,800 rupees (500 + 700 + 600) |
| Also needs | All four Divine Beasts freed | Two Great Fairies, 24 Blue Nightshade, 15 Sunset Firefly |
| Total defense | 9, fixed | 18 at ★★, up to 48 at ★★★★ |
| Night Speed Up | Yes | Yes |
| Other effects | Frightens townsfolk | Stealth Up on every piece |
| Dyeable | No | Yes |
The Stealth numbers come from the Fandom wiki's Stealth Set table and the fountain bills in the Great Fairy guide. On every row that matters, the Stealth set gets there first and does more. The Dark set is a costume with a speed bonus attached. Buy it because you want to walk Hyrule at night as Dark Link, which is a perfectly good reason, not because it is the efficient way to run faster.
Monster Extract turns a recipe into a dice roll
Monster Extract is 9 Mon, the shop holds 20, and you can also get it free: Chabi hands you one every time you save her from the Bokoblins attacking her camp. Zelda Wiki lists four camps, on the West Hyrule Plains near Ludfo's Bog, in a ruined house south of Serenne Stable on Rowan Plain, on the road east of the Akkala Parade Ground Ruins, and in the Shadow Pass forest south of the Shadow Hamlet Ruins.
The cooking guide calls it a gamble. Zelda Wiki's Cooking in Breath of the Wild page gives the exact rules:
- No critical bonus. A dish with Monster Extract in it can never crit.
- Duration snaps to 1:00, 10:00 or 30:00. Whatever the effect ingredients would have given, the timer is set to one of those three. Per the same page, only neutral ingredients can add time on top, and each adds 0:30 less than it normally would.
- One of two things changes: life recovery or effect strength. If the dish only has one of them, that one is changed. Hearty dishes always change strength, never recovery.
- The bad roll goes to the floor. Recovery drops to a quarter heart, or the effect drops to one level.
- The good roll adds a step. Recovery goes up by 3 hearts, a timed effect goes up one level, Extra Hearts gain one more, and stamina effects gain two fifths of a wheel.
So the useful case is narrow: a dish where you care about the timer and can live with the floor. A 30:00 result on something that would have lasted two minutes is the jackpot; 1:00 on your best dish is the price of trying.
It also unlocks five recipes that need it:
| Recipe | Ingredients |
|---|---|
| Monster Curry | Monster Extract, Hylian Rice, Goron Spice |
| Monster Rice Balls | Monster Extract, Hylian Rice, Rock Salt |
| Monster Cake | Monster Extract, Tabantha Wheat, Cane Sugar, Goat Butter |
| Monster Soup | Monster Extract, Fresh Milk, Tabantha Wheat, Goat Butter |
| Monster Stew | Monster Extract, any meat, any seafood |
And it counts as a Purple material at the Kochi Dye Shop, per the dye guide's colour table.
The hammer, the mop and the horse gear
Spring-Loaded Hammer, 199 Mon. One attack, 80 durability, and unlike every other hammer it is held in one hand. The fourth hit of a combo sends certain enemies flying, which is the point; Kilton pitches it as a way to get rid of small monsters you cannot be bothered to fight. It floats and is not magnetic, per its Zelda Wiki page. Zelda Wiki's Lynel page notes Lynels cannot be knocked back even by this hammer, and as a shop weapon it never rolls a Weapon Bonus, as the durability guide lists.
Wooden Mop, 19 Mon. Five attack, eight durability. Zelda Wiki lists mops lying around Hateno Village and ruins in East Necluda and Hyrule Field, so this is 19 Mon for something you can pick up for free.
Monster Bridle (399 Mon) and Monster Saddle (299 Mon). Zelda Wiki's Horse Gear page is explicit that every bridle and saddle except the Ancient pair is purely cosmetic. To fit them you need a horse at maximum bond and one of the four stable workers who change gear: Phanna at Highland Stable, Canni at Outskirt Stable, Tenne at South Akkala Stable or Breen at Woodland Stable. They will not put it on Epona or the Giant Horse. The horse guide covers the Ancient pair, which are the gear that actually does something.
Two errands and a medal hunt that run through Kilton
A Shady Customer. Hoz at East Akkala Stable wants to know what Kilton looks like. Once you have the Camera, photograph Kilton at any Fang and Bone and show Hoz the picture for a Silver Rupee. If you have not met Kilton yet, Skull Lake is where to find him; after that, any of the seven spots works.
Chabi's rescues. Not a quest, but repeatable: every rescue is a free Monster Extract, and her dialogue changes once you have met Kilton.
The Medals of Honor. After Calamity Ganon falls, Kilton asks you to kill every Talus, Hinox and Molduga in Hyrule, 84 in all, Stalnoxes counted with the Hinoxes, and pays a Medal of Honor for each of the three. The field bosses guide has every count and location.
If you are playing the sequel instead, Kilton has handed the old shop to his brother Koltin, who trades for Bubbul Gems; the Tears of the Kingdom cave guide has his stall locations.
Where the Mon is worth spending
Ranked by how much each purchase changes your game, on the numbers above:
- Bokoblin Mask, 99 Mon. It is on the shelf from the first open night and costs 33 Bokoblin Horns. It also covers Stalkoblins, so it keeps working after dark.
- Moblin and Lizalfos Masks, 199 and 299 Mon. Same trick for the next two species. In a mixed camp, any monster the mask does not fool can blow the disguise, so these earn their keep in single-species camps.
- Lynel Mask, 999 Mon. A way to walk past a Lynel, not a way to fight one, and it runs out.
- Monster Extract, 9 Mon. Cheap, but only if you enjoy the gamble.
- The Dark set, 3,997 Mon. For the look. The Stealth set does the job better for rupees.
- Horse gear, hammer and mop. Cosmetic, a toy, and something you can find on the floor.
More Hyrule breakdowns are on the Breath of the Wild coverage hub, and the rest of our coverage is on the Mythras blog.
Quick Action Checklist
- Find Kilton first at Skull Lake in Deep Akkala at night. That visit is only an introduction; the shop opens at the next spot you find him.
- After that, look for the signposts at the seven spots in the table: Lake Akkala, Hateno's High Ground, Korne Beach, west of Gerudo Town, south of the Hebra Trailhead Lodge, southeast of Veiled Falls and above Lantern Lake. Open 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Never at Goron City.
- Pay in Bokoblin Horns and Keese Wings. They are the only parts Kilton values at their full shop price.
- Never trade Ancient Screws (17%) or Octo Balloons (20%), and cook Lynel Guts into elixirs for rupees instead of handing them over at half value.
- Keep the elemental Keese Wings your Climbing, Desert Voe and Snowquill upgrades need before you sell the rest.
- Free Divine Beasts to unlock stock: one for the hammer and Moblin Mask, two for the Lizalfos Mask and horse gear, three for the Lynel Mask, four for the Dark set.
- Use a mask only where one species is present. If anything it does not fool attacks you, the disguise is blown for everyone.
- Buy the Dark set for the look. For Night Speed Up, a two-star Stealth set from Kakariko costs 1,800 rupees plus two Great Fairies, and doubles the defense.
- Add Monster Extract only to dishes where you can live with a 1:00 timer or a one-level effect.
- Photograph Kilton for Hoz at East Akkala Stable for a Silver Rupee, and rescue Chabi for free Monster Extract.
